Quite well said. However, the type of evolution stopping that is truly detrimental to our kind is the evolution of intelligence.
We're idiot proofing everything dammit. THere are signs on cliffs saying not to jump off now. Grrrrr.

Whee, I got my schedule last week for the first semester. Other than being extremely confusing, it's rather funny. First semester I
have (In order of appearence)
P.E. (first thing in the morning, I hate that)
Music (Ughhhh again)
An hour of study hall
An hour of lunch (aka study hall II, cuz you can finish all your homework in 2 hours and the food sucks)
Trig (WTF, I'M A FRESHMEN) O_O
American Government (Whee, a whole class where we talk about the only thing dumber than schools)
Spainish (Yes, they spelled it that way)
Biology
English
What the hell do I do second semester? All these are 1 semester courses that you're only allowed to take once a year.

Shorter than usual day actually. 4 hours reserved for classes (they give us a whopping 0 minutes to traverse the entire building to
get between classes, and this aint no small urban compact school either, the freshmen area is the size of four football fields) and
7 classes to do in 4 hours... That's 34 minutes per class. Heck, in Tech Ed it'll take 90% of the people in my class all semester to
learn to boot the darn things with classes that short, while I'll be walking in the first day ready for a 125% on the finals.

That's about it. However, regardless of how many classes you have, you MUST be at school at 8AM to at least noon, and only those
with cars and valid school parking permits (About 15 parking spaces, the rest of us park on road and in the stadium lot) get to
leave at noon, the rest of us are stuck until the buses carrying middle school students arrive at 2:30 (The roads here are so low
capacity that the 40 buses have to serve double duty to both schools at once, and then deal with elementary after that)

For both Syntax and I, AW gives an illegal error after the Window closes every time we exit.
Changing a create sound to create noise=crash with illegal error
When entering a new midi area, the midi starts at MAX volume and then continues at normal volume levels as you approach it.

Heh, they tested the system in Aussie with Office 2k, they didn't complain. Now us hardware saavy Americans are gonna be stuck with
it. A CPU swap ALONE (An overclocking adjustment counts as a CPU swap, the computer doesn't know the difference) is enough to set
off the reactivation deal, and honestly, once a day is a little much. So, I'm off to Win2k and eventually (Once AWC wises up) to
Linux.
Also, even if you just move around your existing hardware, Windows treats it as new hardware. So, like a few days ago when I juggled
my PCI cards to get ATA100 working, I'd have to reactive XP.

Okay, what's with the random caps words already? They don't even make sense in emphasis.

Looks like 3.2 beta has begun.
Does anyone know what criteria Roland used to pick his testers this round? It seems to be completely unrelated to pursuit of bug
detection.
Between the 3.0 open beta, 3.0 final, and 3.1 final, I've come across and informed Roland via email, telegram etc. of more bugs than
the entire 3.2 testing crew is probably going to find between themselves.
Among these: (The more annoying ones)
That pain in the arse sound/noise changing that causes crashes
Illegal ops upon closing
Various bugs relating to the playback of midis via create sound
The INCREDIBLY MASSIVE floating point errors at high coords in Alphaworld (Corrected in 3.1, so I got Facter to delete a few garbage
obs Roland left behind while fixing it)
An incredibly obscure login bug that seems to be related to my two accounts ONLY
And now the changing of icons after using AW for an extended period of time.
Since there are now THREE rendering modes, why not get people willing to do THREE times the testing on all THREE rendering modes
that know how to properly report bugs (Unlike Agent1 who has omitted his tech specs in his posts so far)
Perhaps my exclusion has somthing to do with this:
Immigration Officer: Warning: your citizenship expires in 4 days. To extend your citizenship for another year, press the Renew
button in the toolbar.
*shrug* If Roland asked, I'd have gladly given him the citnum of the account I'll be using in the interim between my renewals.
Okay, so that was somewhat self centered sounding, but I'm sure it applies to others.
Aug 21, 2001, 4:33am
They don't. Plus, I'd think that Myrth's
"333 mhz
128 mb ram
Rage LT Pro 2x"
would not be preferable to someone that has a wide variety of hardware laying around to do nothing but test with *shrug*
Also, in a bug report of any nature for Activeworlds, there are certain information you should ALWAYS include, and more depending on
what it involves.
-CPU make/model/clockspeed/special attributes (Overclocked, underclocked, overheated)
-RAM count and breakdown to how many on each stick (if it's all on one you don't have to specify) and RAM speed (Normally PC100 for
Intel, PC133 for later AMD)
-Virtual memory settings
-3d card and it's VRAM count and interface to motherboard (VSA, PCI, AGP, ISA, onboard) and if there are any, any special attributes
to the card (overclocked, modified, uncooled)
-DirectX version
-3d card driver version
-OPERATING SYSTEM (Jesus, we have people on AW running Win95, 95C, 98, 98Se, NT4, 2k, ME, and XP, Roland isn't a mind reader)
-Any other running programs at the time, including systray programs and invisible TSR's (hit ctrl-alt-del for the list)

Heres a problem for you mathmaticians, I'm taking the appropriate class next year, so obviously I can't do it.
If Alphaworld were a sphere (I know, it wouldn't work, it's a square and you can't make a square into a circle without stretching,
just take a sphere of equal surface area), and you were standing on it at ground level, how many meters away would the horizon
appear due to the curvature of the world.
Why I want to know this? I'm not sure, but it'd be nice to know to stimulate conversation when Roland finally ups the maximum
visibility from 200 in the year 2099 in his old age with the release of AW 4.0 and gets clearance from Old Man JP (Rick died) to ask
for our input on how far, though no doubt two guys with an aged GeForce 15 XLR 2048mb will halt implementation.

I seem to have forgotten a critical part in that last post, the two guys with the GeForce 15 were named Eep and Syntax and actually
have 6 digit citnums as opposed to 16 digits.

You certainly have high hopes. Trust me, we'll still be on 4.0 :)

We have perhaps 100-200 people that truly give a rats ass about the community and it's future. Inevitably, the community as a whole
will grow as an infux of n00bs is stacked on top. However, the core of the community, people like Goboer King, ABP, Eep (Yes, he has
his place, have any of you even met him inworld?), will continue to shrink. Take for example Xelag. We nearly lost him yesterday
because of the actions of a little BRAT. These few core people will undoubtedly fulfill their purposes and simply dissapear from the
light, or become so overwhelmed by the n00bs that they will simply vanish. We all have our limits.
