Xelag, I am sure you will be happy to know that we still have this data and
you should have access to it like you have in the past. Please read my post concerning the downage. Calpantera [View Quote] The Newsgroups are back!Jun 22, 2001, 12:09pm
I am happy to annouce that the newsgroups are back. The news server software
had a bug that seemed to make all post dissapear. I would do a rebuild_piles and they would be back but only for a few hours then they would dissapear again. Dnews finally fixed the bug and we should be up and running for good (Fingers crossed). I would also like to annouce the addition of a new group. This group is called general.diiscussion and is for just that, general discussion. I know some of you will still flame users for postings that you deem off topic anyway but remember you can still flame for bad grammer and typos! We are moving our servers!!Mar 19, 2002, 8:12pm
In order to provide our customers with better service we will be moving most
of our servers to a new location over the next few weeks. During the next few days some worlds and or universes may be temporarily unavailable while they are stopped on the main server and started on the backup server. Once we have the main server in the new location we will transfer the worlds and universes back to the main server. Most of these moves will go unnoticed except for the move of the world AW. This will require that all new building be shut down for a day while the database is moved. This will take place on Thursday 03/21/02 and AW should be back open to building sometime on 03/22/02. The move back to the main server will take place in the first weeks of April, exact date to be announced later. As always if you have any problems connecting to any of our services please send a detailed email to support at activeworlds.com Bill Activeworlds Corp. We are moving our servers!!Mar 20, 2002, 11:44am
The universes will only be down for a short period on Friday, other worlds
besides AW will not have the building shut down, they will just go off line over the next few days. Some of the larger worlds such as AWteen will be offline longer than others. Bill [View Quote] We are moving our servers!!Mar 20, 2002, 11:59am
We are more than happy to say. All you had to do was ask. :) The new
location is in Boston and is going to be fed bandwidth by Internap http://www.internap.com They will be providing us with two 100mbps feeds intelligently routed through 9 backbone carriers. We anticipate better connectivity worldwide for world servers as well as end clients. Please visit their website for more information on their P-NAPSM. We host alot more than just the AW universe. The actual usage is alot less
but at times may spike very high. The reason for the two connects is for redundancy. Bill [View Quote] We are moving our servers!!Mar 20, 2002, 4:30pm
Moving back to main serverApr 17, 2002, 5:53pm
Just a heads up that we will be moving the universe back to the main server
tomorrow. AW world will be closed to building for the next 12 hours or so while we move the database. Most other AW hosted world have already been moved. Some world servers hosted by others than AW may need to be restarted after the universe move. Thanks Bill Message to Bill and YS CRASH!May 6, 2003, 4:23pm
Have you been able to reproduce this since? Has it happened in any other
worlds? Can you post the last 50 lines or so from the log? PLEASE do not cross post. If you have the ability to post in the Beta newsgroup still then you should post it to this group ONLY. If you cannot post to the beta newsgroup then please send a bug report via email to support at activeworlds.com with the word "Beta" in the subject. Bill [View Quote] Some kind of error in outlook..Jul 15, 2003, 3:55pm
I think its related to the auth setup we use. The news server spawns an SDK
app that auths your username in the AW universe. If you have the status bar showing you will see that it shows "Authorizing" for awhile. Try not using a user name and password and reading threads to see if it makes a difference. Of course you will not be able to post while you are in this state so you will have to change the setting to reply :) Bill [View Quote] Some kind of error in outlook..Jul 16, 2003, 12:54pm
AWtoolkit removal toolJul 23, 2003, 1:08pm
Activeworlds has created a removal tool that will attempt to remove the
trojan known as AWtoolkit from your computer. Please note that if your computer was compromised with this trojan other changes may have been made including the installation of other trojans. This tool only removes the AWToolkit that we have tested as of Tuesday July 22nd. Other modified versions may have been released since then. The code signed removal tool is located here http://objects.activeworlds.com/downloads/awtoolkit_remover.exe The newsgroups are back!Jun 22, 2001, 12:09pm

I just got off the phone with Gavroche so either he is not dead or his cell
phone has tremendous range. Calpantera [View Quote] Gavroche has died.Mar 4, 2002, 10:11pm
Evidence of a phone call? Hmm.. I don't think I could do that without a
federal warrant. Robbie I did not call you a liar and do not see any reason for the personal attack (Hey isn't that against the charter?, should I ban him?). I had heard a rumor that he had died so I gave him a call in which he explained to me that he was not dead. You should look for some more evidence next time someone tells you someone has died as I did. Calpantera [View Quote] We are moving our servers!!Mar 19, 2002, 8:12pm

Ya what's the deal with that you lazy son o.. Oh wait that's me..
I should have the data to them soon. Doing a propdump on AW is no easy task because it is so HUGE. First you have to find the space to dump it to. Then you have to time it so it isn't dumping during a backup. I am working on it... Bill [View Quote] Port surfing, illegal ?Jul 16, 2003, 4:44pm
I never said anything was illegal. I said it was against the EULA.
Activeworlds has the right to enforce or not enforce any part of this EULA at anytime including terminating your right to use. All I was doing was asking in a rather stern manner "Don't go into private universes" that is all. If I was to connect to various ports on your systems and see what things I could do I am sure you would not appreciate it either. Please don't reply to me via this thread as I consider the matter closed and will not be reading it. Thank you [View Quote] OneSummer a Hacker?Jul 22, 2003, 5:45pm
I have found no evidence of this telegram even being sent. I think this post
wasn't even from the real Calhoun. His account was stolen because he downloaded and installed the trojan. At this time as far as we can tell the trojan is STILL running on his machine. I hope everyone understand how dangerous it can be to download and run software from anyone. Even if you trust the source. I make it a habit to only run software that is code signed or at least from a legitimate company and I suggest that others do the same. Bill [View Quote] AWtoolkit removal toolJul 23, 2003, 1:08pm
