Hi everyone:
[View Quote] Yeah....Question is though - For HOW LONG??? With AWcom's current budget, it certainly can't be very long IMHO... > The feature lists in this version would even impress Eep, if he was still > around (which he fortunately isn't) - perhaps the price increases changed > the emphasis in AW's development to the user instead of the "corporate > partners." This should have been AW's PRIORITY objective FROM DAY ONE rather than throwing together some "virtual mall" which I doubt very many people even knew EXISTED (let alone WENT TO) and thinking they'd just get dirty freakin' "filthy rich" off that "mall" (yeah right! Makes me wonder just how many bridges they're bartering on eBay) while treating US - THEIR USERS like the CRAP we've been "treated to" over the past several months (Granted some people more so and longer than others, but still). This is EXACTGLY why I continue to boast about Live365 because THEY *know* where they'd be without their users. That is OUT OF BUSINESS & IN DEBT PAYING OFF LEGAL BILLS!!! And if AWcom doesn't watch it, THEY will be "out of business" *themselves* before long (And AW only has to worry about NetBroadcaster.com being exposed to the CARP). This release even includes improved security in ejections, which > I feel has been by far the most lacking aspect of the browser - this will > save AW (as well as myself, the peacekeepers, and every other world > caretaker) a heck of a lot of trouble in dealing with pranksters. One feature *I'd* like to see (BTW....Why wasn't this thread cross-posted onto WISHLIST until now?? Found that to be kinda strange) is mass DELETION capabilities. It's funny though how we can just simply hit CTRL+INSERT and not only duplicate but also place an object in sequential place, but yet you can't DELETE objects in the same manner. Is it just me not hitting the right keys (like SHIFT+DELETE) or is this just yet another MUCH NEEDED improvement left out of 3.3??? > Unlike Goober King, I never had any doubt that AW would be around at least > for a while - my concern was what state the universe would be in after a few > months. That still remains to be seen, but the features in 3.3 are a step > in the right direction. I took a perhaps more subtle "wait and see" approach myself, however though I too had the same concern you did Brant (among other things at the time). But youi are right. We shouldn't complain too loudly (who knows - Morfe features just may be added when the final product comes out) and it *is* a step in the right direction. :-) Just my $.02 worth...Cheers for now everyone :-) Patrick Cook Mayor - City of Hamsterville pchamster at msn.com Denver, Colorado 3.3 Feature listMay 15, 2002, 2:19am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I have to agree with Dion here. And when you throw in the buyout of NetBroadcaster.com and the partnership with the makers of Stuff-It, you really have to wonder just how "poor" they *really* are. However, OTOH....AWcom *does* have a right to make $$$ off the technology. Afterall, it *is* theirs, isn't it??? Personally, I think they're could've done well WITHOUT banning tourists from virtually EVERY world and 3DHP in the universe (especially those by AWcom itself). Nor should they have eliminated tourists from AlphaWorld. I've said this once and I'll say it again, AWGate isn't their "prize world". AlphaWorld is. And they could've still allowed tourists to VISIT AlphaWorld, but NOT to BUILD there. If AWcom did ANYTHING in this area, this should've simply disabled tourists' building rights on AW and left it at that. But did they do that???? NOOOOO!!! They had to COMPLETELY BAN tourists from AW!!! Why??? Only HE knows (looking and pointing up at the sky). As it is now, AWcom has, for all intents and purposes, shot itself in the foot. And it's NOT like AW is an "overcrowded world". Sure most of the activity can be found at GZ but about how many people do you really think are actually there on an average basis??? Couldn't be much more than 10 people. Everyone else is off elsewhere building or something. Anyways...My little rant is slipping WAY off topic :-) *LOL!* But I think you all get the gist of it (at least I *hope* ya do :-)). In any event....Cheers for now everyone :-) Patrick Cook Mayor - City of Hamsterville pchamster at msn.com Denver, Colorado 3.3 Feature listMay 17, 2002, 2:06am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] So, what's the "magic combination" as it were??? CTRL+DELETE ??? I'd love to give it a try sometime (it'll help save me LOADS of time deleting stuff in the future) :-) Patrick The elimination of TechTalksMay 17, 2002, 2:26am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I'm beginning to wonder what the REAL purpose is for the bingo worlds. Aren't you??? > AW needs to have company representatives out in > the community in a visible fashion interacting with people, finding out > what's right and wrong, and creating an enjoyable environment for everyone. Agreed. They need a Director of Community whose job it is to be a liason between the company and the community. This person could also be in charge of the Newsletter too. This person would also need to hang out in the key AW worlds (e.g. AlphaWorld, AWGate etc.) and basically have a passion for ActiveWorlds. They would also need to post (at least ONCE IN A WHILE) in the newsgroups OR move everything over to a web-based builletin board. Live365 has such a person now. And her predecessor did many of the same things. As a result, it's a pleasure to interact with the Live365 Staff because, even though they're out there acquiring companies and other assets like any other big corporation, there's a REAL sense of COMMUNITY on Live365. In fact, ActiveWorlds should be taking lessons from these guys IMO!!! > AW's downfall will most likely not be due to price fluctuations, > technological obsolescence, or a poor investment, because it has survived > these problems for the past seven years. AW will fail when its citizens > don't care enough to renew their subscriptions because the sense of > community that defined AW is now gone. People will pay any price, as long > as there is a reason to do so, but right now, Activeworlds is doing an > extremely poor job of maintaining community interest. Unless action is > taken soon, there will be no reason for most citizens (myself included) to > stick around. AMEN.... > Reinstating weekly TechTalks, while not a complete solution, would be an > excellent starting point in reviving community interest. Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I just downloaded 3.3 however when I decided to check out my 3DHP, Pub 102X, I got an IO message saying that it would EXPIRE in 4 DAYS!!!! My current cit (INCLUDING my 3DHP) doesn't expire until February of NEXT NEAR!!!! SUPPORT - PLEASE tell me this is a glitch in the interface between AW 3.3 and the IO... Hi everyone:
[View Quote] Hey Dion....Those aren't bad prices dude!!! :-) If there aren't any strings attached with getting my own domain (e.g. additional cost), I just may look into this for my own use. I don't use PHP, but I have a lot of multimedia stuff in Real & Windows Media format. It'd be GREAT if I can keep all of it on the respective sites and not scatter them all over helter-skelter like I'm having to do with Tripod (I'm having to get a matching account for each of my radio stations plus my little ol' online TV station on Angelfire just to get the additional space :-( ). Hi everyone:
[View Quote] > let me know when the community gets a more helpful attitude. I don't think was warranted and quite frankly Glitter, I think it was uncalled for. An example of this is Dion's post. If his post wasn't helpful, then WHAT *is* to you??? Feel free to reply AFTER you've had your morning cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast - PLEASE... Patrick Server SpaceJun 3, 2002, 11:54pm
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I agree 1,000,000% with KAH on this one Glitter. Besides, I was *mostly* responding to this statement made by you in your original post.... "let me know when the community gets a more helpful attitude" (Note that I quoted you so don't complain!) Like I said....If Dion's post wasn't very ehlpful, then WHY would I bother responding so favorably to it when I brought up some of the other things I do on the 'net??? To be brutally honest, Dion's info was probably what Poseidon was looking for. Did you even *consider* that or was your head stuck up your a*s???? I think most everyone here can understand your beef against AWcom (afterall WHO *doesn't* have one?). But by bashing the AW Community (particularly those like Dion, who was simply trying to be of some help), you will not only have bad Customer Care from AWcom, but you'll also have a bad rap in the Community TO BOOT!!! Having said all that Glitter, why don't you just take what little dignity you have left and crawl back under the rock where you came from where you can wallow in your own self pity all you want and LEAVE US ALONE!!! Just my $1,000,000.00 worth.... Hi everyone:
[View Quote] How fast is your CPU Justin??? Also, which version of WinBloze are you running??? I have DirectX 8.0 on my Pentium 166 with Win98 (original edition) and I'm not noticing any difference between 3.2 and 3.3 aside from the faster framerate. :-) Also, are the world you were in 3.3 enabled???? I know for a fact that, unless they've changed it since the middle of last week, AlphaWorld *isn't* on that list. [View Quote] Yeah it does (feeling the smarts :-)), which is why I'm getting an upgrade this summer which will include normal video, 3D graphics, a Sound Blaster, etc., etc., etc. I'm anticipating that it will be AT LEAST a 2.5 GB CPU. :-))))) If THAT ain't fast enough, I dunno WHAT is.... :-) *LOL!* Cheers for now everyone :-) Patrick Cook Mayor - City of Hamsterville pchamster at msn.com Denver, Colorado Don't Look Now! [View Quote] If this is true, then WE ARE ALL DOOMED because all he has to do is simply type in the name of ANY cit and get the password (which I give to NO ONE!) AS WELL AS the cit. no. emailed to him. It all goes back to what I keep saying about parents, their kids, and their kids online activities. That is that parents MUST ALWAYS monitor what their kids do on the Internet (not just take their word for it). Until parents in this society start becoming more responsible (and taking responsibility for the actions of their kids in situation where the parents are usually held accountable), this problem will continue and only GET WORSE. Hi everyone:
[View Quote] YEAH!!!! Even OpenGL works as it should (FINALLY!). But with this old PC of mine, the framerate is so SSSSSSLLLLLLOOOOOWWWW (we're like talking less than ONE frame a sec here). System specs.... Pentium 166 w/MMX 64 MB RAM Windows 98 (original edition) DirectX 8.0 (my system won't support ANYTHING higher). 640/272 DSL connection to the Internet (MSN Broadband) However though, OpenGL makes things look a lot clearer than it does in software rendering mode. :-) Can't wait till I get my new system where I'll have 3D Graphics :-)))) Now, all I have to do is figure how far it is from Hamsterville to all that mountainous terrain I keep seeing in the backdrop on AlphaWorld.... :-) *LOL!* Cheers for now everyone :-) PC Hamster MrBruce Gives A!!CT another chanceJul 9, 2002, 5:08am

[View Quote] [snip...] > I also want to say that I was going to close A!!CT for good, because of TWO > CITIZENS whose names I will not post here, but their names are known. > Now that the PKs are involved hopefully these citizens will either grow up > or leave AW, because they give citizens a bad name! But the tourists are not > the problem! I find most TOURISTS to be polite and curtious, who just want a > little tour of the program. Bruce....If we're only only talking about TWO PEOPLE (or one person using two different cits), then WHY make a HUGE PRODUCTION out of it???? Why not just simply turn them into AWcom and the PK's and BE DONE WITH IT??? Seems like a no-brainer to me as I'd do the same if it were two people in Hamsterville acting immaturely. And I imagine Chris would probably do the same if they were in SW City and Goober would also do undoubtedly do the same if they were in Goobertown. > Please people make them feel welcomed, AW depends on their immigration to > servive. I would agree here (especially since AWcom obviously doesn't have the brains to allow tourists on AW, even WITHOUT building privleges :-( ). > My point is this, if your anti-aw, instead of ruining it, just leave! Why > waste your time creating AW-TERRORIST groups? And MY point is this. WHY give them attention by publicly describing what they supposedly did (even in general, generic detail)??? You're not only calling attention to yourself Bruce, but you're also giving people the impression that you run your worlds like Mussolini did in Italy back in the 30s and 40s and Hitler with Germany did during WWII. You're also giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANTED!!! That is PUBLICITY!!!! WHY put yourself through all that??? As I said, why not juist simply get AWcom and/or the PKs involved and BE DONE WITH IT??? This way the administravia is handled in a PROFESSIONAL & DIGNIFIED manner and YOU don't come off as being the next Mussolini. Just something to think about....Cheers for now everyone :-) Patrick Outer WorldsJul 9, 2002, 4:08am

Hi everyone:
I am sitting on my bike at the coordinates of 5117N 92E and I am in need of something. Since those coordinates put me at the Median Way exit off my Riverside Expressway (westbound only), I thought it would be ingenius of me to put up a sign pointing to Ground Zero. But instead of just putting up any ordinary sign, I thought it'd be cool to post the distance (in kilometres and statute miles) as well. If any of you can crunch the numbers for me (I'm NOT the math wiz I was when I was a kid! :-)), it'd really be MUCH appreciated. :-) In fact, since Median Way runs through a good portion of the NE part of AW, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea if a bunch of us starting sprinkling signs like that up and down Median Way so people don't get lost. :-) Does this sound like a cool idea or what??? :-) Comments??? [View Quote] *I* have THAT problem if I use the mouse as the controller (which is EXACTLY why I *don't* use mouse control while on the AW Universe :-)). Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I agree. However Killano, keep in mind that EA *alone* has a HUGE community (particularly and especially in the area of sports). IF EA were to acquire AWLD, I can see the following happen.... 1). Making THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE 3.3 (or later) FULLY compliant (including AlphaWorld). 2). Duplicate AlphaWorld, AWTeen and AWSchool. Note that I did *not* include AWGate because AlphaWorld can (and already DOES in many ways) serve as the "default" gateway and adding AWGate would merely be redundant. 3). End ALL online downloading of the AW browser except for patches and approved bots. 4). Ship the AW Browser and World Server to stores at prices equal to the latest version of a game. 5). For world owners, add an "Affiliates Program" whereas an owner can add advertisements (stratigically placed in appropriate locations WITHOUT intruding on used and covered land. Obviously, this would have to be on an OPT-IN basis ONLY. For places like AlphaWorld, such ads need only be placed in populated areas and in spots where land isn't covered. This would NOT be an option the community would have as we would (in effect) have NO SAY in where such advertising is located since places like AlphaWorld would be RUN & HOSTED by AWLD. 5). GET RID of tourism completely. A citizenship can be included in the price of the browser, which would be shipped to stores. All a user would need to do is fill out a short registration form which would ask for a desired username (which can be changed at any time UNLESS someone else is online under that particular name). Once the form is electronically submitted, then the browser will boot up (the form will NOT appear again if a previous registration was successful). Same goes for the World Server, but with obvious exceptions which only World Owners would know about. :-) Lemme see....Have I missed anything so far??? :-) Cheers for now :-) Patrick Bad Time for 3D....Jul 18, 2002, 2:04am
