Getting Web Teleports to work in WinXP

May 9, 2003, 6:29am
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] This appears to have been solved if you have 3.4 Beta. In fact, I have so
much confidence in it, I'm gonna start changing over the links on my radio
station websites from my old 3D Homepage to the Hamsterville Ground Zero
area with the recommendation that users have 3.4 Beta installed on their
system.

After that, the City of Hamsterville will have ITS OWN website as it's about
time I start throwing one together now that I have enough stuff to make it
worthwhile and since I've got a few ideas swirling around in my head, it's
about time I start turning some of them into reality and this is just the
incentive to do it too. :-)

Cheers for now :-)

Need Some Opinions....

May 8, 2003, 1:52am
Hi everyone:

I'm working on a project on AlphaWorld at 4869N 456E and need some opinions.
I've added some ground cover and some trees and will soon add some street
lamps.

Now, here's my dilemna...

There's a wall that doesn't belong to me and it can't be deleted that's also
there. My question to you is do I try to squeeze in some ground cover and
more trees or do I just stick with street lamps on the North side of the
wall?? Is there ground cover that will fit in such a tight and narrow
space??

Thoughts anyone??

Cheers for now :-)

them now) created in Windows Media format. I think I'll upload them to my

If we get 'em on board as tourists, maybe we can convince them to get a

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Hmm....Didn't the people in the great Republic of Florida try saying this
back in 2000?? Look where it got THEM....

> I voted for tourists to be allowed in all AWI worlds! that means, worlds

> world, thank you very much.

Then WHY did you even bother to vote then??

BTW....FWIW...Even though tourism may never ever return to AlphaWorld (in
fact, HELL would freeze over before it would happen), I do agree with The
Lady EXCEPT I don't believe tourists should get building rights at all. But
I, unlike The Lady, don't plan on making a BIG PRODUCTION out of the
issue....

Then they wouldn't be tourists anymore. They may as well charge ALL OF US

Undocumented NAC Builds In and around Hamsterville - Need AWHS....

Jun 18, 2003, 5:34am
Hi everyone:

Am in the process of assembling a website for the City of Hamsterville
(which will be a key integral part of the Convention & Visitors Bureau the
city's GZ area), however there are LOADS are NAC builds which I would like
to document with AWHS and ensure preservation. I'd like to be able to put a
name with each of these builds too as well as what the build probably was
meant to be (i.e an industrial park, factory, etc.) so they are listed
accurately.

Would try the AWHS website, however I'm not sure just how current the info.
is (it's dated 11/11/98).

Hamsterville's GZ area is AW 5000N 272E.

If anyone from AWHS would like to work with me on this, please resond to me
via email at pchamster at attbi.com . I'll be parked on AW overnight, but I
may not be near my keyboard.

Many thanks in advance :-)

ActiveWorlds Webring - Is Anyone Interested In Resurrecting It??

Jun 18, 2003, 5:42am
Hi everyone:

Last night, I noticed that the ActiveWorlds Webring no longer exists on
Webring.com Dunno if this was AWI 's doing, WebRing.com's doing, or whether
it was just a case of people having a problem with all the popups
WebRing.com has on its servers. I am wondering if anyone is interested in a
resurrection of that ring, but this time on Bravenet, where there no popups
9or at least no LOADS N LOADS of 'em like WebRing.com has). If so, I'd be
interested in running it (got the original logo too).

Umm....Now I take issue with you here Comit. They DO need to increase the
ground level framerate AT LEAST threefold if you ask me (ESPECIALLY in
situations where you're traveling down a road with NOTHING on either side of
it).

> Kinda annoyingly fast now, but I guess you can get use to it...

Welcome 3.4

Jun 22, 2003, 6:16am
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Well...At least that I can CONTROL my movement with the keyboard. :-)

As it is now, I *still* have to lift myself off the ground ever so slightly
to achieve highway speeds (and that's WITH using the CTRL key!). That
shouldn't be. I should be able to achieve highway speeds WHILE FLAT ON THE
GROUND using the CTRL key and normal street speeds without it (again while
flat on the ground). If I hit the CTRL key while flat on the ground, I can
only get normal street speeds while on a highway. Without it, I'm just
creeping along on ANY type of road.

Mind you, when I speak of normal street speeds, I should be able to go down
the street just as if I were going down a major throughfare in a RL
metropolitan city. As it is now, I'm barely going faster than I would f I
were on a residential street WITH the CTRL key, WHICH IS NOT GOOD if I'm
going down a major street in Hamsterville . I *should* be going just fast
enough as if I were looking for a particular address without it.

Does this make sense to anyone?? I hope so....

NEEDED: URLs To VR TV Networks

Jul 2, 2003, 7:49am
Hi everyone:

I am in the midst of adding a whole bunch of TVs to my latest build HOWEVER
I don't wanna just put in a whole bunch of TVs and NOT have them do
anything. I want to use them to showcase Hamsterville's TV stations
(yes...you heard me....TV stations) which are, FWIW, as follows....

KZOA-TV Channel 2 (which may have its virtual call letters changed to KSMW
if a certain of mine who's also an AW cit objects to the use of the ZOA
suffix :-))
KPDC-TV Channel 4
KBXD-TV Channel 5 (which may have its broadcast originated from the nearby
town of Tasperity Falls)
KOBE-TV Channel 8 (this station originates from the nearby town of
Obeville)
WHAM-TV Channel 11

I'm not sure just which station will be with which network as I haven't made
up my mind just yet, but having those URLs WOULD be VERY nice and MOST
appreciated. :-)

In the meantime....I look forward to any replies there may be :-)

ion/+XEON-TV&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 (apologies if this isn't clickable) and have
signed the following stations in the Hamsterville area onto the following
networks...

> KZOA-TV Channel 2 (which may have its virtual call letters changed to KSMW
> if a certain of mine who's also an AW cit objects to the use of the ZOA

This station is now with DFTV.

> KPDC-TV Channel 4

This station is now an AIR-TV affiliate.

> KBXD-TV Channel 5 (which may have its broadcast originated from the
nearby
> town of Tasperity Falls)

This station is now with VWTV.

> KOBE-TV Channel 8 (this station originates from the nearby town of
> Obeville)

This station is now a CTV affiliate.

> WHAM-TV Channel 11

This station is now with the (currently) almighty XEON-TV.

If I need to complete affiliation forms, I will do so at the earliest
possible convience (sp?).

I would suggest people BOOKMARK the above URL as I don't know how long
Google will keep this page. Once again, the URL for VRTV Networks (for
those who need it) is as follows....

What is up with M A T T and his obsession with AW?

Jul 4, 2003, 6:55am
......WHAT is up with the CTV VR TV network and their CONSTANT BARRAGE of
pictures of a world which MANY of us can't even get on?? That being New AW.
It was because of this that Channel 8 was forced to *DROP* CTV in favor of
VWTV's new movie channel VWMP. BIG difference.

I'd ALSO love to know what's up with SFTV and their promotion of AW 3.3 when
in fact 3.4 is now the latest stuff. I mean, it's WEIRD watching SFTV on
Channel 5 in Hamsterville as thery show an ad for AW 3.3 while an ad for
AWTeen 3.4 airs on Channel 11, the XEON affiliate. MESSAGE TO SFTV - UPDATE

How Syntax Got "Lost"....

Jul 3, 2003, 8:35pm
Hi everyone:

The following is an account of a true story. Hiccup bags are STRONGLY
advised. :-) |*ROTFLMAO!*

Once upon a time yesterday as I was busy working on my new pub in the Old
Cedar Town District of Hamsterville, I suddenly got a SURPRISE visit from
Syntax. His reason was that he "got lost".

Now KNOWING that the Syntax I *thought* I knew would know hot to get back to
SW City from practically ANYWHERE, I was thinking "Hmm..." and eventually
told me to follow me. The first time around, he heard Comit calling him and
he left. I went back to what I was doing.

TWENTY MINUTES LATES, he comes back but THIS TIME he had a friend with him.
He tells he he "got lost AGAIN" and needed help in getting back to SW City.

After getting MY OWN bearings straight (afterall I *was* working on getting
the TV stations set up in the pub), I *finally* managed to get as far as
Intertown Highway 55 at Retsmah Road East. I told him he'd eventually run
into the Riverside Expressway which will take him to Syntax Road going into
SW City. So I sent him on his way and | went back to the pub.

A few minutes after I got back to the pub, I he telegrammed me asking which
way should he turn. IN MY OWN SELF-ADMITTED STUPIDITY, I said "Hang a
right" thinking that if I was wrong he'd just turn around. I then told him
that he'd be taking the scenic route back. He responded with something to
the effect that he thinks he's lost AGAIN. I thought to myself THREE
TIMES - IN ONE DAY??? IMPOSSIBLE. So I asked him which direction he was
going. He said NW.

I told him that doersn't sound right and asked to let me join him (I
remembered later on that if you were to hang a right at Intertown Highway 55
& Riverside Expressway, he WOULD be headed back to the place HE WAS TRYING
TO LEAVE). When I joined him, guess where he was...

WAY OVER on the WEST side of town in the EMBASSY PARK DISTRICT.

By THIS time, I was asking myself HOW is it that this guy could get himself
SO LOST that he couldn't even get back to SW City by highway - EVEN IF HE
WAS ON THE RIGHT ONE?? It just seemed like it was a weird dream!!

Anyway, I get him turned around AGAIN (this time we WERE on the Riverside
Expressway) when I get a telegram from BlankaM announcing her return.

Knowing that I had to catch her while she was online so she and I could
discuss the building of her hotel at Hamsterville GZ (she's online like once
in a blue moon), I didn't have time to help poor Syntax find his way back to
the city he calls home, so I took him to where he could find a teleporter.

I took him to the Bus Station on Harborview Avenue.

I even rode my bike right on up to the stop and told him he could POSSIBLY
miss THIS. He didn't. He was back in SW City and I was, after a few
minutes, on my way to Hamsterville GZ where I would meet up with the
virtually lovely BlankaM to discuss her hotel. :-)

I telegrammed him later reminding him that he was ON HIS OWN when it came to
finding his virtual private residence from the SW City Bus Terminal as I
know how to navigate my way around SW City about as well as Syntax quite
obviously knows how to navigate through Hamsterville. :-) *LOL!*

Now mind you, I'm NOT angry that this happened. But I was a *little*
perplexed. I later realized that this would get quite a few laughs once
posted to message boards and newsgroups. :-) So Syntax....Don't say I
didn't warn ya. :-)

Enjoy the laughs everyone :-)

Cheers for now :-)

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Uh huh. Yeah right. IF this is true then HOW is it you were still able to
remember the event in our conversation some 24 hours LATER?!?!? :-P :-)

And to answer your question Baro, 1). I don't typically keep the Bus Station
in my TELEPORTS section because I generally don't go anywhere that I can't
get to via road and 2). We were actually CLOSER to the highway which runs
all the way up syntax Road going into SW City via the ocean than we were to
the Bus Station, which is why I pointed him in that direction (BTW
Vornox....Did you FINALLY build a bridge from there and string it across the
ocean so road travel into SW City proper would be possible or is that still
a WIP? Just wondering... :-)). 3). I usually don't encounter "lost"
people on an everyday basis (thank goodness!) :-)

Jul 5, 2003, 6:44am
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] They (AWI) already KNOW that THE BEST way to promote AW *WITHOUT* giving
away incentives to become a cit is to let tourists back on AW but DO NOT
give 'em any building rights (and send a spider through AW deleting what few
<Tourist> objects that still remain). Problem is AWI won't do it. :-(

Either that or they're TOO CHICKEN to do it.

> This would probably be too complex, but perhaps something where tourists
> can function just as citizens in alpha world, but perhaps their builds
only
> last a week or so, after that they decay. This would let them try out
> building, but would make them need to put in their fair share if they want
> their builds to last.

You know this won't hold water because a cit can just come right along and
delete it and there's NOT A DAMN THING THE TOURIST CAN DO ABOUT IT.

> That, or AWI needs to set up some sort of tourist world, where tourists
> can build and experiance what aw really has to offer. There would be
> trained GK type people that would help teach and guide new people, and
give
> them a reason to become a citizen. I'm sure there are many citizens in AW
> that would jump at the chance of running and staffing such a world.

There ALREADY IS such a place. It's called the AW School.

> I'm so sick of seeing tourists at awgate asking what they can do here and
> such, and at most getting a GK recycling some copied and pasted blurb on
aw.
> Currently they make AW out to be some 3d chat program that maybe you can
> make your own environments but not sure.

I wish they wouldn't do that either, but until Enzo & Co. see the light (not
to mention the $$$ POTENTIAL) of letting tourists back onto AW, but NOT
giving them building rights(especially since its fast becoming as antiquated
as the Model T compared to worlds like Today's AWWTeen and New AW), I'm
afraid we're gonna keep seeing the same drivel from GKs at the Gate over and
over again. :-(

Cheers for now :-)

BI Message - Try Building Somewhere Else Because This Space Is Too Full - WHAT IS UP????

Jul 5, 2003, 6:17am
I am having to fight Building Inspector TOOTH & NAIL to get my new pub built
THE WAY *I* WANT IT. It's gotten so BAD now that I can't even TURN a single
object. Right now, I'm TRYING to put up a picture object of some bottles on
a shelf right below the row of TVs, right on the counter and behind the
computer which is used as a cash register. I had four poles (one at each of
the four corners of the bartending area) but I had to take those out JUST TO
GET THE PICTURE OBJECTS IN!!!

I also have a stairwell (thsee1.rwx) which covers most of the pub. I
imagine if I moved the stairs aside, I could probably get a few things done,
but if I'm having problems NOW just with the main bar, I shudder to think of
the problems I'll encounter when I start putting in tables, more chairs,
pictures on the walls, and (maybe) a stage for virtual bands to perform on
and I don't think that moving the stairs to one side will be of very much
help. Neither would deleting the 15 small screen TVs and the rods behind
them acting as placeholders.

On top of that, I don't feel I should *have* to delete one ob ject JUST TO
INSERT ANOTHER ONE IN ITS PLACE in the first place!!!!

In short - WHAT IS UP WITH BUILDING INSPECTOR???? It's MY land. I should
be able to do WHATEVER I WANT with it (besides violate the TOS of course).
With Building Inspector as picky as it is, it's of little wonder why
buildings on AlphaWorld don't have very much furniture or very many floors
in them. :-(

PLEASE AWI - If there's a technical problem with Building Inspector - PLEASR
FIX IT.

You guys should see my pub as it is now. :-( Not a pretty picture...

Cheers (??) for now :-/
