I'm out of this war zone (Community)
I'm out of this war zone // Community
Nov 9, 2002, 5:47am
I don't hold it against whoever deleted the stuff because I know they were just trying to stop a war that they didn't start, but the thread I started asking for positive input is gone and with it the ideas which I had flagged for later review. I think I remember the important stuff, but if not that's just too bad. I didn't start the war either, but I sure got picked as a primary target.
To any moderator of this newsgroup: Feel free do delete any remaining posts of mine that were made before this one... and if you see fit to do so, this one too.
If you don't like the way people voted, "tough." There were a total of 4636 votes this round of the Cy Awards, so if someone won that you didn't want to see win... try not to look.
I'm really tired of so many people trying to tell me that their view is the only one that can possibly be right. I have listened carefully to all sides and it seems that even though many people have attacked me personally, the only real complaint they seem to have about me is that I am neutral. Well, maybe it's better that way. Yes, I am neutral, and I will remain so.
I'm not going to bend to any one groups whims and do what ever they say. I've had too many people trying to tell me that they want no discrimination, but that I have to ban what they tell me to. I've had too many people saying that they want things to be fair, but that I need to make sure those they think should win Cy Awards have the best chance. I've had too many people telling me that they want all groups represented equally except for the ones that they don't want to allow at all. Well, I could add a lot more to this list of what I have had too many people telling me, but instead I will say this... one is too many.
Want things to get better? Do something positive about it. From now on, I will outright ignore any further negativity. If you want my attention, be polite and come to me with constructive things to say, not destructive. I will no longer listen to or respond to those who can do no better than to point fingers and yell out that something they won't bother to specify is all wrong and they're going to make us all pay for it.
If someone starts a nice positive thread in here (or if this message begins one) then feel free to let me know and I may just come have a look.

As I was asked by many to at lest come here and view what responses my post
has generated concerning my getting out of AW. I decided to read what was
left of the newsgroups that enzo has not deleted. I understand your
disstress more than you realize. But the problem here is this, the community
has spoken, they said what they wanted (or at least I tired) concerning the
CY awards. Nothing we say is good enough.
I tried to be unbiased here and listen to the community and weigh the pros
and cons. I tooked carefully at the wording of the posts to see who was for
one thing or another.
I carefully tore each post apart here and restructured it as many ways I
could.
The results are 98% want the CY completely "G" rated. 2% want it "G" thru
"X".
Here is your answer and its easy to see, if people stopped looking at their
contact lists so much, they'd see what is going on in the universe. Try
using the worlds list once in a while and set it to USERS so the worlds
display top to bottom according to how many are in each world.
Now as you look at this list scroll down it to look for worlds that are well
know "ADULT R or X" rated worlds. I see 12 worlds. I also see at the time of
this post 1152 worlds running in the AW universe if my math serves me well
here 1152-12=1140. You are trying to tell me that 12 worlds have the right
to change the whole universe?
Whats going to end up haapening here, before all is said and done anyone
entering AW as a new-comer is going to need mommy/daddy's approval to enter
AW, to verify Mommy/Daddy's age a credit card is going to have to be
used....here we go again back to Febuary 2002 where a credit card is needed
to enter AW. How many people do youthink like using their credit cards on
the internet just to satisfy a KID?
THINK>>>>THINK>>>THINK! even just for age verification and to help their
child keep from seeing adult materials, there are very few that will risk
their credit card numbers being stolen to please a kid! This is deemed an
adult website now technozeus, it contains adult materials. I did not know
catering to ones sexual pleasures was so important here. But I guess it is.
If AW took a vote and every citizen in AW voted (and this is the best way) I
believe you will find the majority of the people here can live without sex
in Activeworlds. But still we will cater to a few 12 worlds out of 1152!
Sad...sad...and pitiful!
MrBruce A!!CT world= CommuniTy hence CT get it yet? A!!CT-A!!-CT=CommuniTy
A!!CY might be mistaken for the CYs so it's CT. Figured I'd answer that long
asked question. :P

Yes. Neutrality HAS to be the approach when dealing with a community (don't
look it up. recent readings here would disqualify AW as fitting the
definition.) with such a varied membership, from the AW top brass all the
way down to anyone trying to conduct a fair and impartial competition of any
kind.
My own experience with online interaction has been that everyone is right in
their own mind and nothing I or anyone can, or should, do will change that.
It's a waste of time, bandwidth and causes undue wear and tear on your
keyboard.
This is an entertainment medium and nothing more. Those that would spout off
about any little thing that doesn't fit their particular mindset have a
different set of criteria to define what's entertaining than I do.
Enjoy the differences. Laugh Out Loud at them if you need to. But don't
expect anyone to think that you're any more "right" than they are.

So it's the wants of the many that outweigh the wants of the few...
Technozeus I believe you have my comments on the issue, about everyone being
able to participate if CY's are PG rated (but not recieve an award if their
content isn't appropriate), but kids not being able to participate (period)
if they allow adult material to win awards. I think that says it all right
there. You guys must choose the lesser of two evils and define what the
CommunitY is; worlds or people?

Absolutely not! In Adult sites the content is right there in your face.
This is true with the 12 or so adult worlds. The rest are G rated. AW is
NOT an adult world. I hope you will get your friends to stick around so
they can at least see if the CY committee does the right thing in their
eyes. It hasn't been decided yet. They have a say in this, too.
While they are not elected officials, the committee is representative of the
people. So you should at least encourage your friends to air their thoughts
and concerns with them and not leave AW in a huff because something is being
debated and/or they don't like what is being debated.

Explanation: Because of the mess, ENZO decreed that next year the CYAwards
world will have a world rating as its highest rated nominee. This has
forced the CY Committee to decide whether to limit the world rating of those
entrants being nominated to G or PG and possibly even R or allow all worlds
and risk two things: 1) That some to most kids will not even be able to
visit the CY Awards world, much less participate in the CY's, depending on
their want to participate and their parent's involvement in their surfing
habits. 2) Many adults who would not agree with the decision will not
participate in the awards in the future, and as linn pointed out possibly
leave AW altogether (the latter of which is only a foolish display of
martyrdom).

Clarification on the first option of limiting the nominations: X and
possibly R rated worlds would not be able to receive or be nominated for an
award.

Bye,bye, friends of Linn.
Some people take this CY "thingy" waaay to serious. To me CY is as important
as a bicycle for a fish.
I really do not see the problem with having various rated worlds represented
at the CY award. It is like, why could not Dumbo and Hannibal Lecter be in
the same category? If Dumbo wins everyone can go see it, if Hannibal, those
beeing old enough goes see it...this is so bloody simple, I really do not
understand how some people even bother making a problem out of it.
Calling AW an adult site is like calling Netscape a porn software.

(repost)
I had trouble in some categories to find why an entry was nominated
there and not somewhere else. E.g. there was a really nice woodland
with bridges and a small house, I liked it very much - but why was it
in "Community Development in Architecture/Urban Planning/Design" ?
Other entries appeared in several categories that would exclude
eachother, "urban planning" and "virtual art project" seem not
compatible to me (well, I might be wrong there).
I think it would be good to have a more detailed description, what
should go into each category.
===
A new category would be good, it has not been necessary till now
and should be handled slightly different - if the vote bot can do
that :
"Best world for tourists"
Of course one cannot keep citizens from logging in as a tourist, but
citizens should be asked to stay out of the voting (nominations would
be OK).
Tourists need to see that they are welcome to the community, not only
to some worlds.

Hmm mrbruce,
how comes to your statement "This is deemed an adult website now
technozeus, it contains adult materials"? Weird - I have not seen such
there.
Please give me some URL to verify.
Anyway, all agree on that children have to be protected. I think that AW
does a good job in protecting. Where is the problem?
