A!!CT looking for new host (Community)
A!!CT looking for new host // CommunitymrbruceJul 14, 2003, 11:02pm
Hi we are looking for a new host someone who is NOT in DSL or has 1000
outages a day, no offense but our present host it seems does not want to provide a suitable server for us and our world is crashing every 5 minutes for as much a 3 hours at a time! It is also crashing our computers when the bots we host to control the world find the world is not running. We can not have this, this is not a normal and we have to find a host who is willing to dump thier ISP if this is the case and provide something better. An ISP should not be disconnecting every 5 minutes for 2 hours at a time and anyone paying for such a service should request a refund, its also cuasing me to host of fmy PC while their server is down for 3 hours and upsetting my builders do to the prop being out of date!! Please contact me. MrBruce andrasJul 14, 2003, 11:35pm

We have DSL and have constant problems..
Just about every morning we go down for 2 minutes to a half hour. I'm not sure what they are doing, but I just live with it cause it's pretty good priced for the speed. We host 6 worlds for friends and they know for free they have to put up with intermittant interuptions. It's almost like clockwork so I'm supposing they are working on their servers at that time. Warner cable seemed to be the best IP I ever had for continuos connection. themaskJul 15, 2003, 5:20am
Yep, i would also recommend Builderz, haven't seen Techno down for no
reason, allways a reason behind it being down... updates on the servers, etc. ferruccioJul 15, 2003, 8:22am
a new object path would be nice for A!!CT as well. the object path still
has never loaded for me since january. panther1403Jul 15, 2003, 11:42am
i know a possible reason for this. its because the OP is in 2 different
places. part of it is hosted in the US and the other part is in Germany. haven't you ever seen on the news when they are doing a live feed from some other part of the world that when the host asks a question it takes a few seconds for the person out in the field to respond. the same thing applies to the internet. the farther away the host is from you the longer its going to take the data to get to you. That part I can not understand for the life of me. You're the only one who
claims that. We're running a php type path script with two paths linked to one. Maybe that has something to do with it. Sometime I will have you visit one of our test worlds and just have the a1ct.com part of the path loaded and see if you're still having this problem. MrBruce [View Quote] mrbruceJul 15, 2003, 12:07pm
Your post below is correct, www.a1ct.com is located in the United States in
North Carolina and is my path service, starfleet-ufp.com is located in Europe, but both paths are linked together in most cases. We also have the option of loading one path independent from the other if we wish. MrBruce [View Quote] builderzJul 15, 2003, 12:18pm
While I believe in Steve Gibson's views like you, Andras, and I try my
best when it comes to hosting, I wouldn't even call myself "the best." But I thank you for the kind words. :) Coming from you, that means a lot. MrBruce,
I'd be willing to host A!!CT for you. I *do* host worlds and bots on a DSL connection, but I constantly monitor how much upstream and downstream bandwidth that goes through it. I host about 5 worlds and 8 bots and the average amount of traffic they use is about 10kbps. When things are idle, it is much less. I could host A!!CT with or without the world remote admin tool enabled (so you could do propdumps, change caretakers, etc). Also, if you need bot hosting, I do that as well (FTP access included, upon request). All world data is automatically backuped twice a day and manually each week. I also offer Web site and OP hosting (the server for that is in a professional data center that is connected to a network with over ten high-speed backbones). I've been hosting TheMask's OP that uses the MultiPath PHP script for months and he hasn't had any problems with it. At last count, I think half a dozen worlds use it. As for downtime, the only time I take the servers offline is to do system maintenance, patch things, do a full system backup, or update software (that may sound like a lot, but it isn't). The Web/OP server had close to 100% uptime last month and about the same this month so far. Obviously, if a backhoe cuts a fiber optic line at my ISP or some other incident happens that is out of my control, my connection will go down. However, I haven't gotten any complaints from those that host so far. I also host things for those in other countries, and my customers say that they get very good speeds there. I'm an honest host and won't steal your passwords or any nonsense like that. Tell you what, I'll host A!!CT and any related bots free for seven (7) days so you can see how my service performs. If you don't like it, then you can find another host and keep your money. If you are interested, please e-mail me telegram me. Thanks. Wooo! What a speech.. and i was planning on using a PHP Script myself.. but
i dont, and have my objects all ina folder. Though i have cut some bugs, but im not even there yet, so i might just startover my path since i dont like it as/themask sounds corny and stuff.. heh .duo.Jul 16, 2003, 10:44pm
Lol, I was thinking of using a php script to get oct31.de/objs, your OP, and
my own. That would screw things up a lot, heh heh heh. [View Quote] ananasJul 17, 2003, 4:07am
Dracula has a local copy of my OP on his server that he
can link into a combined multipath/fetch script, plus a lot more free objects : http://myactiveworlds.com [View Quote] ananasJul 17, 2003, 3:19pm
Well, myactiveworlds.com is not my site *g
Dracula IS lazy though, you're right. I will kick him sometimes. Most worlds are running on the latest server though, so not everything is dated 2001 there :) [View Quote] count draculaJul 17, 2003, 5:30pm
I know I am :) I am also very bad at html; takes me a long time to produce
anything in Notepad, so I have not dared to alter what NoMad1 once put together ( and who knows I might even break the law if I altered it *g*) But the info is still valid. Worldhosting 5$US/month with admintool access, additional world 3$. OP space 200Megs and usage of the php script that makes it not needed to upload for example megapath ( Ananas' OP and one I put together is also there ready to be used) 10$/ month ; and if both world and OP 12,50$/month Drac ananas <ananas at oct31.de> kirjoitti viestissä:3F16D9C7.4090205 at oct31.de... > Well, myactiveworlds.com is not my site *g > > Dracula IS lazy though, you're right.
