New Game (alpha testing) (Community)
New Game (alpha testing) // CommunitybaroMar 19, 2004, 9:22pm
I'm looking for a few understanding people willing to partake (see: endure)
in some very early testing of a new game. First, let me tell you a little about the game. Back-story: The general back-story is that a few centuries ago there was some sort of war on this planet, and your ancestors managed to hide in an old underground complex. As the complex was not suited for living, the people spent their first half century tunneling down, eventually building a fairly respectable little community deep underground. Once finished, they abandoned the old upper levels and sealed them selves in their new village, everything went well until lately. Things are starting to break down, and each generation seems less paranoid than the last. Finally the village elders have allowed people to leave, but it is a one way trip as the leaders are quite paranoid about people contaminating their little underground utopia. As a player, you are one of the people leaving the crumbling settlement to see what is out there and make a new life. Gameplay: Players will start with a small assortment of items and a limited supply of food. What they do next is totally open ended. A player could become a scavenger, finding old treasures and food where its available. A group of players could band together and create their own town that they rule their own way. The world is full of opportunities and dangers, what they make of them is totally up to the player. There will be no tedious level gaining or money making, as such tedious tasks are done automatically whether the player is on or not. A player simply tells the bot how they'd like to spend their time for that turn, and at the start of the next turn the results are in. This frees the players up to do interesting things like going on adventures, socializing, and of course building. The game's story will be almost totally organic and player driven rather than forced with a heavy hand by a few 'writers', players are the stars of the game, not the admins. Players run and make choices for the towns, players decide rules and laws, and players actions decide how the game evolves. Perhaps all the players will band into one peaceful town and the game will focus on building and trading. Perhaps a few opposed towns will form resulting in conflict. Perhaps no one works together for common defense and the land is over-run by monsters. The outcome of the game is up to the players. Although the game is quite open ended, the general focus is on economicaly realistic building along with role playing and community building. If you've ever wanted to own your own little farm or lumber mill, and work as a community with other people to develop your own city, this might be the game for you. So, if this sounds like something you might be interested in, and would like to participate in the very early stages (no or very limited bot, gameplay changes on the fly, restarts) just send me, Baro, a telegram! |
