Active Worlds Feature Vote. We've forgotten about something haven't we? // CommunityferruccioMar 30, 2004, 1:28am
It's been about a year so I'll post another reminder. Does anyone know
about how the outcome of this year-old feature vote will in any way affect the next version of active worlds? Active Worlds 3.5 did not do anything that was requested in the feature vote. So, AWI, what's the deal? themaskMar 30, 2004, 1:32am
AWI Does actually read their Newgroups.

AWI reads nor cares about nothing...except grimm...who will probly visit
this thread to make a smart assed reply. -- Brock, IceFlare Network Founder/Administrator http://www.iceflare.net [View Quote] lioness.Mar 30, 2004, 8:09am
hmmmmmm and here I thought they enabled 3D axis rotation in aw cus of the
feature vote. Or am I wrong? 0_0 [View Quote] rossyboyMar 30, 2004, 10:42am
The vote was nothing to do with AlphaWorld. 3 axis was enabled at the AW
Festival. Ferr, the vote was just to find out what the community wants. This was made clear at the time. The amount of time and effort it would take to implement the features have also been taken into consideration by AWI. [View Quote] ferruccioMar 31, 2004, 3:29am
You sound like an AWI employee :P "Have been taken into consideration" you
know what? I doubt mrgrimm can even program any of those features. Look at the disappointment of 3.5. How about AWI try communicating with us about what they are doing, and what they are going to do? ferruccioMar 31, 2004, 3:38am
What good is it to see what the community wants and not do anything about
it? If they were doing something, perhaps they should make some press releases on the active worlds site. Remember 3.3? Everyone was in anticipation because it was being advertised on the main site 7 months before it came out. How about they try to do that with the upcoming versions? Wouldn't that boost morale, and maybe even get new users in? I just have the feeling that they have nothing more to offer us as far as versions go. qrvncasey oMar 31, 2004, 5:23pm
That's why they have auto-reply e-mails; so they need not concern
themselves. Or then maybe, they just can't read. In that case, I apologize for my lack of sensitivity. [View Quote] elykMar 31, 2004, 11:48pm
The feature vote is on the AW website, its a vote as to which new
feature we'd like to see put in the newest upcoming version of AW. [View Quote] elykMar 31, 2004, 11:49pm

Excuse me ... why is the vote page not secure??? Why would I want to log in
there with my username & pw without it being a secure page??? Some thoughts on what you can vote for at this point, all great improvements and I vote for em all LOL ... but seriously Add scale command: Neat idea and great for the masses, but you could scale in the .rwx via notepad ... although that is more difficult for the *average user* I admit. Custom Avatars: Love this but can see the potential problem with an x-rated av showing up in my g-rated world ... bad karma! Save outgoing grams: Isn't there a free progy that does this already? Not that it shouldn't have been a feature of aw to start with LOL. Increase the maximum cell data limit: Isn't the problem, as mentioned in another post, the # of polys/verts ... not so much the cell space? Anyway, I get the BI breathing down my neck so ya, cell data unlimited would be more to my preference ... yes I know, that would be lag city! Add a fullscreen mode: Most folks still have 800 x 600 resolution for their monitors, not sure how full screen mode would help unless you could put Tab Controls in the Toolbar area and have each it's own drop down menu? That would elimate that window entirely and then people could maximize (resize) their main browser window to their monitor's capacity. Access multiple universes from a single browser: Again, isn't there a progy that does this? Or, is that one uni only and multiple worlds within that uni alone? Fix the world rights lists: This sounds good, only problem I can see would be that building worlds may not be able to readily identify what cit can do what. And then, how would you implement that for those worlds that allow tourists to build? User-Selectable Chat Font: This could be lumped in with my idea of a drop down menu in the Toolbar? Browser skins: This could be lumped in with my idea of a drop down menu in the Toolbar? Instead of putting in my pw on the site, I'll just vote here LOL ... here they are in order of importance to me: Custom Avatars Add a scale command Increase the maximum cell data limit Fix the world rights lists Save outgoing telegrams Access multiple universes from a single browser User-Selectable Chat Font Browser skins Add a fullscreen mode And here's one or two you don't have, which to me outweighs all the rest: prefs! For me, float = 110m all the way around me, that's 220m! When I crash in a world, and hafta reload it the amount float forces on me is too much .... I'd prefer to set that myself and not have float the default!!! For instance, my connection is relatively fast, but where my op is is not ... d/l 500 objects or more when entering my world for the first time, or after a browser crash, is painful for even the fastest connection ... that is because of float. Allow ME to specify what the default is please! can't use it? LNH [View Quote] starfleet starfleetApr 1, 2004, 2:05am

OK to the last comment, but yer order for these others here is all wrong

Basically my point is, AWI has sure done a good job to silently express how
they don't even care about the feature vote. At least, that's what it seems to me. Maybe it was just a ploy to get citizen's hopes up to reduce the likelihood of them letting their cit expire or cancelling their cit? e n z oApr 5, 2004, 4:59pm
I think we made a good start on skinning the browser and we increase maximum
cell data... E [View Quote] ferruccioApr 8, 2004, 2:59am
You never increased data cell size. Browser skins? A customizable toolbar
doesn't count as a "browser skin." you can't even change it to an attractive looking skin :P so you're wrong *thwack* [View Quote] ferruccioApr 8, 2004, 3:04am
I question how much you really know about your own company, Rick. The
maximum data cell size was never increased, yet you say that it has. How much time do you really spend on the browser experiencing your own product through the customer's eyes? ferruccioApr 8, 2004, 9:18am
Okay, I was just told that some upcoming server build and browser build has
an increased cell limit. Cool. But, what are you saying about browser skins? You call the one-skin-only toolbar on 3.5 a custom skin? >,< bowenApr 8, 2004, 5:40pm

What about things in the SDK that are not enabled? Like botgrams --
why's it such a bad thing. Bots don't have to acknowledge botgrams if someone sends them... most won't even be able to parse botgrams they're not looking for. Sure, people could spam bots, but they're more useful than they are harmful. xelagApr 8, 2004, 6:48pm
Well, whichever way they decide, they should really enable it in the
beta period so that bots can be tested using that function. I had to move to DLP to test this for xelagot :( Alex [View Quote] [View Quote] sw chrisApr 9, 2004, 12:35am
He said they made a good start, Fer. Geez, with people jumping on every
little thing they say it's a wonder that the staff posts at all. :( Chris [View Quote] bowenApr 9, 2004, 2:12am
