I am not a citizen of AW and do not have access to the groups, except as read only. Thanks in advance, Challagar I am looking for some program to map a world that has yet to be made. I have been working with pencil and paper up til now, but I want something that can be changed and shared (without scanning and conversion, etc, etc) with others who may be involved with building the world also. If there is no such software, or it is cost prohibitive, please let me know who to ask to request that one be made for this purpose. I wrote out some notes on my PDA of some of the features that would be handy in such a program. The "basic features" I listed are features that should be in the program whether or not the advanced features ever get included. The "advanced features" are optional features that would greatly increase the usefulness of the program, but would not be necessary for the program to be a useful product. Basic features: world mapping: users should be able to draw a map of the world for planning purposes map tiles: should be customizable, each piece should be editable as a seperate image in a graphic program each tile should be scalable so that the same tile can be used for different size grids, for instance, the same wall tile should be able to be used whether the user is making a map of the whole world, single building, or a single room tiles should have transparency capabilities so that tiles can overlap adjustable grid and detail preferences: should be able to adjust each map to world size, building size and room size; units of measure should be specific per map notes: should have some sort of notes system to communicate ideas about object and world design, such as special instruction about how objects should fit together, which structures are higher priority than others, or special build rules. text labels: should have a function to add text labels to areas to identify structures and geographical features, such as church or river Advanced features: built in viewer of world content: should be able to browse OP content so collaborators can see what they will be working with w/out having to go inworld notes: users should be able to write "sticky notes" and attach to map; viewed by mouse over. This feature should be able to be turned off in editing mode. "transparency overlay" user should be able to make suggested revisions to the world map without changing the actual map; like a transparency overlay on a classroom projector the receiver of the suggestion should be able to see either version of the map with the click of a mouse or hot key collaboration functionality: users should be able to chat to discuss the world map and details without using a separate program -- Andras "It's MY computer" (tm Steve Gibson) |
