I'm not against change not at all everyone is talking about changing no changes old builds should not be destroyed...that's what I mean by no change...let it continue to grow but leave it's current looks alone.
Very simple stuff here...mover on to bigger and better things...leave AW alone let it grow on it's own...make a new BETA world for all new features that tend to wreck old builds....

The main and most prominant reason I like AlphaWorld is the fact that builds
created a decade ago are still there. And I for one think AWI has done an
exceptional job in keeping it that way for all to see for years to come. I
also don't think many would appreciate it if they had built near GZ or
anywhere in AW for that matter only to find their build destroyed years
later in the name of progress. Where would AWI integrity be then?
I mean....why would anyone build there if they knew their builds could be
destroyed in favor of a new 'train system' made by a newer user? And then 10
year later that same 'train system' was ripped out for a newer one! If
everything got changed every time a new user decided they wanted change, all
the older users would then get upset. Where's the winning middle ground
here? I fail to see the feasability or the logic behind those wanting
change. A new world perhaps, but destroy the old? Sorry, no logic there.
IDEA: Perhaps buy your own world, and if your real lucky, maybe nobody will
complain about your GZ in the years to come. If I changed my GZs everytime
some wished it, I don't think I'd have much time for anything else!
Just my opinion of course ;)

About the same question was asked in "Reasons why Alphaworld GZ never
changes?". My reply:
======
Lotta people are saying that. That doesn't apply to everyone. Here's my
side of the story:
In a few weeks SW City will be 6 years old. Yup, I and some friends founded
our city 6 years ago. Since that day, we've been an active and developing
community in AW. Our territory in AW makes up 2000 by 3000 coordinates,
comprising of god only knows how many buildings and projects, and about 10
million objects and rougly 250 builders.
Do you expect the SWC community to just pack it up and move to to another
world? Even if wanted to, that's impossible. There's no affordable world
big enough to transplant the city.
We're a building-based community of AW, and as such, one of our top
priorities is the betterment of our projects and the environment it sits in.
And obviously, you can only do so much when you don't have any control of
the world you build in. Alphaworld is our homeworld, and we'd like to be
proud of it, not loath it. A GZ should be a world's proudest features.
Instead, we're stuck with aging ruins :(
- SW Comit
www.swcity.net
==========
The only difference is that if a BetaWorld was truely set up, a transplant
could take place since the world is just as large. But we would need AWI to
do that so the citnames and dates could remain in-tact, and I have my doubts
they'll be willing to do that. It's also quite expensive to set up a world
that large. If I understand correctly, Alphaworld has its own server, which
are pretty expensive.

No, my thought is to leave AlphaWorld as it is in all it's historical AND
currently value ... and create a new BetaWorld (the 2nd of it's kind is size
but with all the bells and whistles) for those that want to build in the
newest available features aw has to offer. BetaWorld wouldn't be to replace
AlphaWorld but would be the successor where people can build but the world
would have water, clouds, newer and better quality objects, perhaps a
multipath using all AW owned objects as well as objects (or paths) donated
by others, etc. Being as how it would start sometime around now all it would
start out with is a GZ made by whoever AWI decides. The building frenzy and
land grabs would be intense for weeks ... I know I'd go LOL ... BetaWorld
could be alive and contain the next 10 yrs of AW building history, and
AlphaWorld could remain open and usable as is for those who still cherish
it.

Whatever the change is, it has to be in a way where the "flagship" alpha
world will not change to another world. I think the company should have a
vote on the active worlds website on what features alpha world should have.
This would be slightly different from the completely ignored "feature vote",
as the options would be for features that are already feasable in the
browser.

I think Comit's point was that creating a second world with AlphaWorld's
scale would be too costly for AWI since worlds that large require their own
dedicated servers... and AlphaWorld isn't even that full yet, still don't
see why the historical stuff can't be propdumped elsewhere in AW so people
can still view it.

It's also the largest world, and the primary building world. No reason to
leave it as the "bastard-child" of Active Worlds. And large communities like
us can't simply "move on" to new worlds. It would cost us thousands yearly
to move SW City to its own world so we could get a couple measly new objects
or a skybox instead of AlphaWorld's unchanging brown mountains.

Uhhh....are you forgetting that the AW GZ was built by AWLD? It's the
company's account, and if only the GZ area was updated and the surrounding
areas were cleaned up so there aren't 50m-tall "OMG COME LOOK AT MY TOWN
LOLOLOL!!!!11" signs everywhere....then the old (expired) cits could (if
they ever would) come back and still see their builds there, only with a
newer GZ area. If only the AWGZ area is updated and not the surrounding
spaces, and since it is built by AWLD and not private builders, then we
wouldn't have the problem of peoples' builds being destroyed "in the name of
progress."
And there IS a place for the old GZ if the real one is updated in the AWGZ
world, as people have mentioned many times in this thread. The old GZ isn't
going to be gone forever, its just in a better place. But something just has
to be done about it, because if I was a tourist and saw the GZ and the
zbuffer all over the place I'd be disgusted with the program. And even if
the GZ was changed it doesn't have to be a completely different GZ...the new
one's design could have elements of the old one so there's some historical
influence in the new one. It's like old houses in the US, they're old and
have historic value but that doesn't mean people can't bring them up-to-date
or rennovate them to look better.

You completely missed the point he was making. We would not pack up and
leave Alpha World because we have invested so much time into SW City. Since
we want SW City to continue to grow and develop, we want to have some
improvements in-world. A "beta" world, no matter how amazing it is, would
not get any of us to pack up and leave.
