Tourists and citizens trying to enter private worlds // Wishlistprincess tiaJun 7, 1998, 2:56pm
When someone clicks on a private world, and they are not authorized to
enter that world, they teleport to that world for just a moment and then are kicked back out. For object sercurity reasons, I would like to see that momentary appearance in private worlds eliminated somehow ... PT builderzJun 8, 1998, 11:15pm
I can relate. If someone repeatedly set up some sort of a program that
kept teleporting and teleporting back into the world and being kicked out and kicked again over and over...the user could (a) probably hear peoples' conversations in the world while going back in and out and (b) could possibly crash the world or the user running the world (if using a slower modem). Just my two cents. ;-) -Builderz [View Quote] > When someone clicks on a private world, and they are not authorized to > enter that world, > they teleport to that world for just a moment and then are kicked back > out. I actually tested this (and upset a few people in doing so) before 2.0 was
released, and fould that if you didn't have objects cached in advance, entering a 1.3 world in this manor would not allow you to cache any new objects, but WOULD allow you to get in and walk around and in some cases hear people and talk to people... However, since this means of entering a world does not seam to work for 2.0 worlds, it upgrading the world should solve the problem... feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll go back to testing it. Actually, I like that feature of private worlds, in a wierd way... When I want
to recache, I click on a closed world, which unlogs me from the world i'm in, and bounces me back right away. Otherwise, I would be stuck for 30-60 seconds while my PC tried to catch up with the new world, teleport "back", and catch up with the original world... Maybe just a "re-cache" button in option somewhere? hehe [View Quote] > I actually tested this (and upset a few people in doing so) before 2.0 was > released, and fould that if you didn't have objects cached in advance, > entering a 1.3 world in this manor would not allow you to cache any new > objects, but WOULD allow you to get in and walk around and in some cases > hear people and talk to people... looks like a re-cache button might be a good idea..
on checking server logs of my world, it appears a number of "tourists" try to enter private worlds. It was beyond me why they would try as, if newbies, they are instructed routinely in awgate that green worlds are open for public, and red ones are closed. And if not newbies, it certainly makes one wonder why a person as a " tourist " would repeatedly try to enter a private world. (Hrm) The use of clicking on a private world for re-caching never occurred to me. When refreshing cache for my world, i teleport out to pata, awgate, or aw (areas already in my cache) then back..it doesn't bother a private world owner this way. I've even had tourist's enter and even post something while my world was closed. So.. I still would like to see this ability eliminated.
