my wish (Wishlist)
my wish // WishlistmgibDec 21, 1998, 10:33pm
Me too, and all these basic "improvements" on the contact list have been
said again and again for so long! When I think before they launched the telegram feature they said it will outdo ICQ so ppl won't use it anymore!!! [View Quote] > my wish is for COF to read the wishlist and act upon our wishes deanDec 22, 1998, 2:11am
I cannot agree more, however there must be some kind of prioritizing of
wishes. Whether or not Roland is working on all of the wishes, we should at least compile some sort of list for him to look at that we can present to him in one packaged submission. We can all complain and yell about what we need more than anything, but someone else might have a difference of opinion about what is the most important feature. With a well organized list of wanted features, Roland might reprioritize his list as well. If he does not read the wish list, he can at least read a civilized and diplomatic email that says, "Hey, here is the list of most wanted features. Take a look at them." If he does not look at them, we cannot say that we did not try to put them together so that he cannot clearly see what is needed. Besides, who knows if the list will change his mind about what he thinks are most wanted features? He may be working on the features that he thinks are most wanted, but really are wanted by only a few who expressed their needs to him in a well organized, well thought out, and diplomatic way, instead of whining (as I am guilty of too) about him not ever listening to us or reading the wish list newsgroup. If we do nothing, we will never know whether the effort was worth it or not. Compiling a list might not get us anywhere, but doing nothing will definitely get us nowhere. Let's put this all straight first. *They* created this newsgroup and said many
time they were attentive to users' wishes. We may imagine they can't include all requests, neither can't always tell what are the priorities for users among all these requests. But one would expect *they* manage things so to get such priority list, and at least show some concern by answering to what seems possible or not for them or what they think are priorities from what they heard from the few.. This is what happens anywhere where such a wishlist ng exists, or you don't create it. In clear I would certainly not feel "guilty" because we don't do *their* job. I don't feel like whining but just asking them to be honest and not pretend to do what they don't. As to pretend Roland knows nothing about some priorities, let's be serious. Some requests like possible pricacy on the "green mark" in the list have been expressed from the very beginning and not only in this newsgroup. But maybe you are right, and we should do such a list with votes so to see if they are really sincere. Remember they promised too to organise some votes for major issues they would like to have users opinion. They made a trial with old Cy avatar return. (just a way to diplomatically correct a deletion which raised tons of protests), we are still waiting for the real vote stuff. I am making such a list, including voting on the ideas to find out which
ones should have priority. If you want to add an idea to the list, or if you want to vote on ideas, look at the thread "AW Frequently Wished Wishes-list" in the newsgroups Wishlist, AWCommunity or Worldbuilders. [View Quote] adrDec 22, 1998, 9:40pm
LOL, most use ICQ with AW.. One good thing about mulitasking, you aren't
limited to one program/application. Guess the reason most use ICQ is that everyone knows about it and it is free. I can list most of the wishes and have only been reading this newsgroup for a
few months, Roland and Co are well aware of what people want and are working on adding some of it, from what I have heard the first things added will be file to file transfer within AW, copies of outgoing telegrams, multi object paths for worlds etc.... My wish is that SOMETHING would be added at reasonable intervals, I would put custom AVs at the top of my list. I must have missed it when someone asked for file transfer. Does anybody here
ever remember asking for that? Or, do you remember someone else asking for it? I sure didn't. Nor I. I've never heard of ANYONE asking for that. I'm sure Rick and/or JP thought it would be "cool" though. So Roland, like the obedient paid lackey that he is (heh) has to implement it. Ah, gotta "love" corporate (or how about just stupid, idiotic, and lame) decisions, eh? Oh, wait, this is COF I'm talking about here...NEVER MIND.

I've heard a lot of people ask for that one, actually... Mostly it was included with "make AW into ICQ" posts, but others pictured it as in just handing an object to other people like in snow crash. All it would need is a graphical counterpart...

I'd rather have better hardware support than all this fluff crap Roland's been adding. Why work on the car's sunroof when the engine is much more important? I just don't get COF's "mentality" sometimes...

Your "Organization" stuff very soon will exceed Fluxen's sig:)

Um, that's not what I meant by "fluff crap". Sheesh. At least my organization field doesn't get QUOTED every freakin' time someone replies...and then requoted when people don't know how to delete it, and so on and so on...

Ah.... the Organisation field in the header. Can't see that unless I request
Message properties. And, regardless of the length of my sig, it's very likely you'll see a lot more of mine than of others (I post a lot, and usually very short msgs -- but y'all know that). Oh yea...like that's a valid excuse. There's a word for people like that: morons. And if COF is adding stupid fluff features to AW just for "looks", they're even more moronic than the morons who look at AW's "features" yet never actually "drive" it. Feh...gimme a break...

I wish that Santa comes down from COF's chimney this year and leave a couple
of programmers as a gift under the tree. Maybe this way COF can reallize the wishes... :?) Odysseus Ghost essage <367d8367.0 at homer>... >my wish is for COF to read the wishlist and act upon our wishes > > fredrik and joakim staiDec 28, 1998, 10:39am
Yes, but programmers needs to be payed, and COF seems to have too little money
for paying a couple of programmers. )c; How about getting some volounteers from AW (citizens) who are good programmers to help Roland and Protagonist a bit? Or is that a bit risky for COF? -CyberTwins [View Quote] > I wish that Santa comes down from COF's chimney this year and leave a couple > of programmers as a gift under the tree. A lot of people would rather have a nice shiny 4-banger Miata than a rusted out Impala, even if that Impala happened to have a supercharged 350 and could do the quarter mile in 11 seconds...

Gee, I'd rather have a nice shiny supercharged 350 Impala that would kick the nice shiny 4-banger Miata to the curb. Wouldn't you? It IS possible, you know...just like a fast 3D engine with all the trimmings is possible too.
