All user data should be synchronized (or shared if possible) between the two universes. If sharing cannot be done this second EXE file should have changing of user data disabled, to avoid possible replication conflicts. As this solution is really simple, the source code changes in 2.2, 3.0 and 3.1 could be done within few minutes. As only data constants are changed that are (hopefully) held in only one central place, a new beta phase would not be required.
