AFK - Hiding feature (Wishlist)
AFK - Hiding feature // Wishlist
Jun 3, 2002, 3:54am
G'day all,
I have to agree with the other cit's in the beta newsgroup etc. If you click
on "Hide me I want to be alone" setting you should be invisible to all, not
have a big fat question mark next to your name.
Your avatar should also not be seen by anyone in the world your in, your
chat text, whispers or telegrams, your boss, your wife, your husband, your
"other wife", your mother in law, your next door neighbour, your next door
neighbour's husband, if you choose this option.
Any or all of the above options would be a handy thing.

The thing is the question mark is there if your online or offline so you
cant really tell. I disagree with you becuase this could cause abuse and i
dont think you shoud be able to fully hide your avatar from everyone unless
you have caretaker or caretakers can still see you.

Personally I don't care for the feature anyway because of the stupid
question mark, then you just get a ton of grams asking if you're offline or
online, kind of useless, however, I would also disagree with the invisible
avs, that could totally cause havoc in your rights of privacy, like most of
the other features, try putting coronas size=500 in all directions of a
group of people, or with the new bot console messages, you can make people
in your world lose their minds by faking the Operator, Immigration Officer,
etc...

Actually I enjoy making people talk to themselves while they go crazy and
everyone else laughs. It's fun making them say things rofl....I know im so
mean imp sorry but its REALLY funny ;) I'll probably get bored of it soon
and stop but alls I can say it great future! I think that was the reason why
its CARETAKER only because if someone is doing it to you just leave their
world.

If your afk you should not be disturbed anyway unless the person is rude or
is just sending you a gram which they expect you to answer after you get
back and not imediaitly. So id say we dont need it >:)

Just block all incoming tgrams when you don't want to be disturbed and
then allow them once you are available again or want to chat.

Isn't it rude implying that you don't want someone to know when you are
online or offline ?
If the AW browser is going to adopt the features of other chat programs like
ICQ, Yahoo, MSM etc, then it should adopt the standardised feature where you
can appear as though you are not even connected to the net.
It should be each citizens right to use AW in privacy if that's what they
want to do. To show any kind of mark next to your name, when you are seeking
solitude, is an open invitation for people to telegram you, to try and join
you, or otherwise break your intentionally private status.
It's like having a car parked in your driveway, people automatically suspect
your home, when you hear a knock at your door what are you supposed to do ?,
hide in the cupboard till they go away ?
Creating suspicion and mistrust through ambiguous icons, is not in the
community spirit of AW, this feature should be removed before it causes more
problems than it solves.

if you have a question mark, the join feature always shows grayed if you
are offline, not when you are online for those you didn't block
seems like a silly feature to me.

If you dont want people to telgram you then block them! And even if people
do telgram you does not mean you have to respond.

Hide means to "not show". If the feature is designed to hide your online
status then it should hide you in the same way as not being in AW at all,
not create suspicion by putting an icon there that says to other users
"Maybe I'm online, maybe I'm not, either way I dont want you knowing".
I don't know about your relationships with people in AW Zeo, but they must
be less sensitive to being ignored or put to one side, than mine. Also if
your a PK or someone that is jumped on as soon as you enter AW when you use
any known account, you should be able to enter AW to do what you want in
privacy. Before I get misinterpreted here, I don't mean PK accounts. Private
accounts should have the option of being just that, private.
AWCom has an opportunity here, to introduce a worthwhile feature, so long as
it's done properly at the start then it wont get messy later on.
I think in all fairness it's not within the community spirit of AW to
create ambiguous online status notification icons.

Well first of all i don't use that feature unless its to one person or a few
i happen to not want to see my status but then if i have to do that im
usually blockign telgrams and joins for them also.
Just to clear this up (again) its called "Hide my online/offline status"
which means you cannot tell if they are online or OFFLINE. If you don't want
people knowing then thats fine but i think it would be worse if there was no
? then people would think you quit or something because your never online.
