[View Quote] Define "advanced thinking".

- that despite many Americans' impressions of their own country as the most
moral, humanitarian, democratically free nation on earth, the facts simply
do not back up that impression, because on a per capita basis, the U.S.
locks up more people in prisons (not just jails) for non-violent crimes than
any nation on earth, despite the impression that we are the "Land of the
Free",

If you do something wrong, expect to be punished. The problem is more
people are doing more wrong. Find the cause of what's encouraging them to
commit crime and extinguish it, then you have solved the entire equation.

- that our system of criminal "justice" is obviously not working, since
those numbers have continued to escalate,

Perhaps true. But I'd like to see the figures for the other advanced
thinking nations so we can compare ourselves.

- that despite being given the facts and figures, many Americans can simply
NOT connect the facts and figures to the reality of the situation.

Good point. It may be your average Joe American doesn't think about it
either.

That's what it means.
