The Eagle Has Landed (General Discussion)
The Eagle Has Landed // General DiscussionananasMar 23, 2003, 4:38am
Too many Americans seem not to see where at least much of
the problems worldwide come from, they are home-made. Sending humanitary help to seelected countries + sending weapons to crisis regions + sending bombs is a strange combination. Especially sending weapons to critical countries is very dangerous. Germany exports weapons too and I am mad about it - but at least sending them to crisis regions isn't allowed - although some companies still do it, illegally. But anti-american? This FAS page is the Federation of American Scientists and I'm quite sure they are not anti-american. Critical against governements that profit from wars, more honest than the usual press, seeing danger potential more clearly - I think it would help America stay out of political trouble if those scientists would have a bigger audience. Knowing this person as I do, I've come to decide he's more concerned about
what's happening in the world than he is anti-American. Being American as I am I happen to have a little more faith in the controls in place in our government than he might (maybe not as much faith in our current president as some do though...and I get to say that). To have blind faith just means you are probably not well informed. I sometimes have my concerns, too. I think you'd have to be a US citizen to look at things quite the way we do but one thing about it-you get to have different opinions. I guess it's only fair that we allow everyone to share his own point of view, and in this case he was only passing on found information. Now I'm waving my white flag, no more of this particular AW newsgroup war for me. [View Quote] bowenMar 23, 2003, 4:04pm

That region has been at war since the beginning of civilization, do you really think that Europeans are going to stop it? Please. --Bowen-- johnny b jbitt2atjunodotcomMar 23, 2003, 4:21pm
I don't deny the fact that everyone here has a right to their opinion, and I am VERY well informed when It comes to such matters as
are involved here. What I DO object to, is this ongoing america(n)-bashing campaign........ at least in here AW is a mutli cultural venue, for the most part.... many people from many countries, races, religion, backgrounds, etc. That much we all know... But I personally feel that AW really may not be the best place for all this arguement. I feel that all this does is create bad feelings, suspicions, anger, and even hate towards others here. No matter how well we think we "know" those others, we truly cannot without real personal interaction. Words are so easly typed and sent aloft into the ether we call the internet... I for one come here to enjoy some of my spare time, to unwind after a long day at work, whatever. I enjoy chatting with my friends from all over the world immensely, As do I enjoy modelling and building my own worlds. What it all boils down to, is the fact that I think most of us would agree that we come here for some manner of enjoyment. But all this dissention and negative talk takes so much of that enjoyment away. I'm sure I can't be the only one who feels this way....... Can't we just leave all the politics and such for more appropriate places and come here to enjoy ourselves. I thought that's what AW was supposed to be about Perhaps I'm wrong......... What bothers me is the fact that all this debate, arguement, hostility, whatever you'd like to call it, [View Quote] count draculaMar 24, 2003, 8:06am
I think one problem is that people are taking everything personally.
For example if I say " America is acting against international law by attacking a country", people will somehow take it as I say they have personally comitted a crime, when in fact I am refering to the goverment. I guess I sometimes cause this kind of confusion, maybe because my limited knowledge about english language. I just do not feel like typing out " the current political leadership and its foreign politic" , it is just so much more simply to say americans. Not sure if AW is a place to debate it, but as I go to a bar or shop and whomever I talk with, Iraq comes up, so I do not see why not here, since it is in the mind of most people.
