My two dollars and fifty-six cents about the recent events... // Communityj b e l lFeb 9, 2001, 4:08am
I happen to straddle the line on this eep/facter controversy... although i
do feel eep should be removed from the NGs because I feel he intimidates others into not posting their thoughts and ideas, I don't feel it is being about the right way. The vote, all though intentions are good, is a bad idea. You show weakness by having other people make your decisions. If you want to be treated with the respect you would like, stand firm on your beliefs and ideas. React with your mind, not your emotions, it's easy to get carried away, I for one know this firsthand, however just stop for a second and take a breath, relax, understand what we're considering here and what this is all about; having fun. There should have been guidlines from the beginning, and they should have been enforced from the beginning, it has been proved time and time again you can't give a person rights then remove them without reason, although i understand you have reason, allowing it to go on for so long, then punishing him for the ongoing events is unfair. Ex Posto Facto (or someting like that) You can't try a person for a charge that occured before a law was made. The guidlines bearing the harrassment and threats were either not created or not enforced untill recently, and therfore I feel nothing except for that of this point on are what he should be held for. As far as AWCI's management and abilities, yes, there is something lacking, but where isn't there. I honestly feel that AWCI's community involvement within the last few years has been slacking, I remember the days when you could regularly converse with enzo in COFmeta, and occasionally see JP in AWGZ, but ahh these times have long gone, and so has the spirit of community in AW. If the management wants the company to grow, they need to become more involved, but we also must remember that AW is a company like many others. There are thousands of companies who's managment lack interaction, and have you ever tried to call Dell computers techincal support? I did once asking a question about their products before purchase, not only did I wait half an hour on hold, I was treated like shit by an arrogant cocky "specialist" whom didn't even understand of what I was speaking. These are just examples that it could be worse, there are some AWCI employees that stand out among the rest for community involvment and help, Whom i'm thinking of is Facter and Noelle, although both have their flaws, they're only human, and should not be persecuted. I feel we are holding these people to too high of standards, standards of which we ourselves could not reach. If we were to go to a store, and asked an employee for assistance, if they seemed unsure or changed their position, I doubt we would harrass them the way we harass the people here. Not only this, but citizenship is only a small amount of AWCIs revenue, and therfore our requests are most likely not the highest on their list. When your not treated with the top priority, it is because you probably don't own a large world or universe, that also needs to be taken into consideration, there is more to AWCI then just AW, they sell a multitude of universes and softwere, Outerworlds and Vectorscape among the most known. Now to Roland and his "inept" capabilites. I personally challange each of you to do better. Just like stated above I feel you are holding him to higher standards then meetable. I do, though, think the beta process should be much more thurough, and not as "rushed" I'm sure AWCI probably gives him timelines and deadlines, which is an error on their part, creative genius takes time, and so does insuring everything runs properly. Roland didn't start the AW program, he merely picked up where others left off, this would have to be difficult, code changes, and so do people, he doesn't know what other programmers were thinking, It would be hard to make sure nothing conflicts with the older coding, with these factors in mind, I feel Roland is doing a great job as an AW Programmer. Last but not least, no one is forcing you to do anything here, that's the beuty of it all. No one is forcing you to post to the NGs, no one is forcing you to use AW. If you would prefer to complain uncessently, so be it, that's one of the things that are great, your allowed to do it, but when you do so, remember you aren't being forced to do anything. If you don't like the way something is happening, you can easily leave it for something else. Before you get so hypocritical, remeber what your other options are. This is all I have to say for now, but I'm sure I'll think of something else to add or modify in the near future-so expect replies :-) -- J B E L L http://platinum.awjbell.com G O I N G P L A T I N U M the derekFeb 10, 2001, 12:57am

<html> as annoying as eep is, he shouldn't be kicked off the ng's if people had that much of a problem with him they'd filter him and that would be the end of it... [View Quote] |
