Calling Your Bluff (Community)
Calling Your Bluff // Communitygoober kingAug 3, 2001, 3:48pm
I have a slight confession to make. My reasons for posting Flagg's and ENZO's
responses here in the NG were two-fold. First and foremost, it was to give the community AWC's side of the story. My second reason, however, was to see exactly how many people actually were interested in what they had to say, and it seemed as if there weren't that many people, hence my "Disappointment..." post. Well, I guess it's time to stop being subtle about all this and get right down to brass tacks. It's time for Step 2. There was one small snippit in Rick's response that caught my attention, and I'm not sure if anyone else caught it. It went a little something like this: "All of us here want AW to be a better place. AW is not just about software, it is about people. The reason we work here is to make it happen. We enjoy it and we enjoy the community you all have created. We want you to enjoy AW as much as we do. We would be happy to work with you in any reasonable way." If I read that correctly, it means that Rick himself is extending the olive branch and is willing to work with us towards bettering AW as a whole. Now, as some of you may or may not know, a man by the name of Sprawler had set up a "Citizens Union" about a month ago, in the hopes that it would act as the people's voice for AWC and work as a middleman group between the community and AWC to help get things done. Unfortunately, Sprawler has since come down with a rather debilitating illness and is unable to continue maintaining the org, so he decided to hand over the reigns of the org to me. I had been letting it sit dormant, trying to figure out how to make it work, but Rick's olive branch has now supplied us with the perfect opportunity to make it work. So, if you're interested in helping get this off the ground, I'll be holding a meeting at the Orion Amphitheater in GooberTown (AW 65.2s 3740.8w 324) directly after TechTalk today. The main purpose of this meeting will be to figure out how exactly the CU should be set up and whatever else needs to be addressed. Once we get all the details ironed out, I'll bring it to Rick and the others and we'll see if we can't work something out. I realize this is rather short notice, but I figure most of the people who show up to TT are the ones interested in helping AW, so it should work out fine. And Facter, I would appreciate it if you could pass this on to the rest of the AWC squad. Maybe we could get some AWC representation at this meeting and we can all work together to get this thing going. See you after TechTalk! :) -- Goober King And so it begins... again... rar1 at acsu.buffalo.edu syliAug 3, 2001, 4:53pm
Goober,
There are always 2 sides to every story, and although I wouldn't be able to stand behind every complaint being made against AWC not having the first hand knowledge, I signed the letter based on some limited observation here, no response to a support mail I sent as a new world owner and the basic spirit behind the letter you composed of drawing a bridge to gap the differences. Their response was quite opposite the picture that was painted, so frankly I have been sitting back on the sideline watching how everything played out. I am not a techie but am a long-time citizen and new world owner who has noticed a large change in AW over time and is concerned about the future of one of my favorite places to be. What time is the meeting, or is it limited to only techie type individuals? -- ~Syli~ >snip< wingAug 3, 2001, 5:29pm
