The displacement mapping pic is one of the coolest things I ever seen made for TrueSpace.

It's quite impressive but I'm very interested in seeing what the fur functions of TrueSpace 7.5 will look like. |

For me....I currently could care less!(ok that's a lie) It's about the basics at this point....we have not seen bones/IK handling yet...the meat and potatoes(after modeling and surfacing)...so IMHO this package is still incomplete, it's like we're getting chcolate syrup, but nothing to put it on.....
tS rocks, and I will always buy and use it, but I get nearly no use out of it compared to max and lw, and that is because they have functional bones and rigging.....this is what I've been asking for, in any form, since tS SE. |

All very well having these extra features, byt my main concern is the lack of multilayer materials under vray. Finding surfacing much more limited now. Also I'd like to see light emitting material and volume lights. |

In my Dragon Quest project (see link below), my knight has a goatee. I was quite concerned about how to implement this onto the character because past attempts at creating facial hair, while they worked, they didn't look great. For my knights goatee, I created the basic shape and then applied a very corse bump map to it. When I did a render, I was very pleased with the end result. |

There's a new Captain's Blog and Newsletter posted. I like the new format alot. Is it me or is Caligari opening up more with information? To me they seem friendlier and more informative. :)
I personally like the changes. |

I wonder what is meant by displacement mapping being "able to use them in an way we did not quite anticipate" - I think the displacement mapping examples look really cool and all, but were these unexpected results that happened to look cool or was this what was expected? I was very successful at using classic bones in a way I did not anticipate. Hopefully 7.5 tools will not yield unpredictable results. Testers should be used to "try and break things" not to "try and get them to work". |

Oh believe me, we beta-testers do. With each new build comes many new problems and bugs, yet also a massive amount of progress and fixes. There are also a lot of very talented animators working on this build, and we intend to push it to the max. I actually joined the testing team to get some of my 'requirements' implemented. We are all very excited about what is coming up. The last few weeks, for example in the animation department, have been some of the most productive for us all. We, including Roman, are really pushing the programmers to squeeze as much as possible into the tools that we all are waiting for. I am actually planning to creating an animation using 7.1 then again in 7.5 (I have a lot of time on my hands ;) ) just to compare things. If I get stuck on 7.1, I'll request it for 7.5... easy as that. And the final comparrison should be very interesting. |

We had anticiapted people using displacement mapping to paint small details, like veins on the back of a hand. We had not anticipated someone using it to make more major alterations with such depth and height and such a large amount of deformation as shown in these sphere :)
No, not unexpected as in broken, just unexpected as in we hadn't expected people to think of using it in such a way :)

If there are any TS7 owners out there check your email because the update to 7.5 will only be $49.00. You have to order early BEFORE August 7th. Now this is a PRE order so we still have to wait for release. No news yet on a printed addendum, just pdf so far. Do the Caligari crew know if a printed addendum is planned? |

If no email, check the usual culprits - if you have unsubscribed, you wont receive special offers; spam and junk mail filtering can also block it since it is an automatic mailing, ensure all mails from caligari.com are allowed through; ensure your customer record has the correct email on it.
Otherwise, contact customer services via email, either to take advantage of the offer (they will know the offer you mean), plus to ask about correcting things if all the above are sorted and you are still not receiving mails.
HTH!

Hope they didn't forget to include the possibility for Collada export, in the german trueSpace forum Vizualizer opened an interesting thread about the possibilities this would open for trueSpace.
Hummmm... Let's hope that somebody from Caligari attends:

I didn't receive an email yet. Is the 49$ for every TS7 owner or only for those who did not pre order TS7?? |

I would email Caligari sales because of what Tom said earlier. If you own TS7 then you can update for $49.00. Not counting weekends that's only 7 days to get your order in.
Don't let a nice offer like this one get by! The email also stated it was a one time offer.
I don't work for Caligari, I don't test for Caligari and I didn't sign a NDA so I can talk freely. TS 7.5 is going to be a huge hit! So if you pass on this one don't call me Bob! |

Do note that pre-orders (from before the release of 7.0) get tS7.11 for free, and we did have another offer since the release where tS7.5 was included in the price.
If you're copy of tS7.5 is already included, then you won't have got this offer. Only those not already receiving tS7.5 would have received it.
If you are unsure in any way, just contact us! We'll be very glad to help, to check your verison, tell you if you are already receiving tS7.5 on its release, and take your order if necessary even if you did not receive an email.
If you have your customer id to hand, or order id, so much the better, it will speed things along :) We can still help if not of course.
Emails and phone numbers are on the Contact Us page:
http://www.caligari.com/Help/ContactUs/default.asp?Cate=HContactUs
Customer Services are the ones who'll help out.
The current SIGGRAPH specials for those who don't own tS7 also include tS7.5 in the price. Offers for that have gone out to owners, so tS6.6 owners have an offer to upgrade etc, as well as the main page offer for new users. Again if you are a user and have not received info and would like to know details of your upgrade pricing under this SIGGRAPH, just contact us.
I too feel this is a good deal - tS7.5 will be a good deal after its release too, but the savings here if you order now make it an even better deal of course!
Oh, and if you can attend SIGGRAPH, you can just ask us about ordering then too, direct to our faces :)
Thanks!

See you at SigGraph Tom! I'm going! WooHoo! I found out that LucasArts is interviewing onsite. I checked out their jobs list; I don't think I have the experience they need, even for programmers, but that's okay. At least I know the experience I need to get! I'd better bring some resumes though, just in case.... |

Excellent! Always good to hear we'll get to meet some of you face to face after all these online messages in forums and emails. Looking forward to it!
Good luck on the job application too. You sure should go for it, far better than not trying - if you don't try, you definitely won't get a job with them, but if you do try, well you just never know.

A recent email I got from Caligari about TrueSpace 7.5 really opened up just what this software will offer. Not only is character animation on the cards, and fur, but so is cloth!! This sounds really great.
I am currently using TrueSpace 5.1. Following my Mum's treatment for her brain tumour (which I am delighted to say she is making a full recovery from :) ), I am starting to rebuild my savings plan for upgrading to TrueSpace 7, or more precisely, TrueSpace 7.5. Can anyone give me idea of the price I'm looking at so I can set a goal for my savings? |

Hi Paul. First and foremost, may I say that is EXCELLENT news that your mum is doing well!
Secondly, the best folks to ask that would be the sales department. Off the top of my head I am not sure what the upgrade price would be, from TS 5.1.

No, I did not attend Siggraph.
Yes, I did take advantage of the Siggraph pricing offer.
I was saving up money to get another computer to take advantage of my other programs render nodes and decided to give tS another chance (tS5 had long since died on me).
What I have read about tS7.5 has intrigued me, and I would hope that the 7.5 update comes sooner rather than later. Especially since it promises UI enhancements. I really almost feel as if I am in another program altogether.
I have noticed that certain things that used to plague me in tS5 don't seem to be an issue in this version. Promising, but I have so much I need to relearn.
Guess I gotta start reading. |

I dont belive what apear in Captain's Blog..
Why???
1)
I buy TS7.1... i recive few weeks ago the "new" patch Ts7.11... but.. i recive a mail with a promo TS7.5 for 49 $...
Realy i think was for free.. I send an e-mail telling about that and they say..
"> Yes, the $50 upgrade offer is valid and if you would like to get the
> trueSpace7.5 upgrade on it's release you can order it now for $50.00.
> Some users who pre-ordered get it at no charge, but you ordered after
> release in April. Maybe that is the confusion and it is not free for all
> who got the trueSpace7.1. We try to be careful in our special offers and
> if any special offers includes the upgrade we like to specifically mention
> it."
2)
This is what 7.5 will bring:
"4. Rendering
Yes, you will get Hair and Fur shaders V-Ray will be moved to the Player side so that bridge will no longer get in the way there. Other new V-Ray features will be good animation support, such as high quality motion blur, incremental updates for irradiance/photon maps, GI light maps, multi-pass rendering, depth of field, post processing, chromatic refraction, anisotropic reflections, true displacement mapping and more. There will be improvements in Lightworks too."
In the same mail i ask about the new Vray upgrade.. and the say..
"Second question. Maybe there will be some improvements also in VRay, but
> since we are not sure about what exactly it will be, maybe that is the
> reason why we never mentioned it in the e-mail. We will have to wait and
> see about the improvements on the VRay."
Regards... |

Thanks for the update Roman. Those new tools look great!
As for your web site, that looks great too! Much easier to use. There are several broken and crossed links though. Eg: Download: truePlay points to tS6.6 demo. REVIEWS: cadalyst points to ct. HELP: FAQ missing links. Several others as well. |
