This is a scene I was playing with last week, but never got back to it, it's funny because someone on cgtalk posted something very similar before I had a chance to finish. If I find some time this week I might get er done as the scene is a bit empty at the moment. This scene has 1 light outside shinning inside and was rendered with Vray.
Any comments would be appriciated.

Nice!
However the water doesn't look as transparent as I would have thought it should |

I think it looks very atmospheric. The only points that strike me Daybe are....
a. the treetop exterior plate makes it look as if the pool is on the second floor or in a downward sloping valley
b. the beachball would be better placed in the centre of the pool - even better in a shaft of light to pick out those primaries - to act as a focal point/counterpoint to those moody gray tones.
c. If you are going for dusk/dawn effect it may be more effective to switch off the interior lamps as they don't seem to add any character/reflections to the shot.
I like it. |

Hi Dave, Nice work.
Theres something not quite right about the water but I cant quite put my finger on it. Maybe its a bit murky.
Still very impressive.:)

maybe some pool lights which lighten the water.
This could be a great render!
I like the evening atmosphere. The best time to go swimming :) |

That sounds like a great idea. Show us what vray can do with water ;) I'd also love to see caustics. |

It appears to me the pool walls are missing the light blue color I am accustom to seeing. The water looks dead. The rest of the rendering looks good.
Of course if this is the look your after then put a shark fin in there..... |

It's a beautiful image, but I still wouldn't put my feet in the water out of fear that something might pull me in!
Great work! :) |

Is it okay if I jump in? I'll just strip down and do the cannonball. Nice scene, I like the perspective view. |

Daybe, I like the overall render and composition. But that water looks gray and spooky. |

The pillars by the windows on the left are oddly lit by an inexplicable blueish light from a direction almost completely opposite the direction of the sun.
But the render overall, I really like it! Nice!

What does it look like in player? I think the problem with the water is that it's not deep enough. Very nice image overall |

Okay, finally made it back to this one needed to take a little break from 3D for a while but I am back, still very much a wip but getting there, thanks again for all you comments. Noise is due to the low quality Vray setting and will be addressed later.
C&C always welcome.

Nice scene looks good to me..
I do have a question though, shouldn't the safety railing come down the middle of the steps and not be off to one side? I only ask because I've never seen one they way you have it in the scene.. |

The only time I've seen that done is with the round pools, the square ones have it on the side |

really.. hmmm, I've never seen it on the side in any of the indoor pools I have encountered, home and pulbic (even outdoor pools). in each case the safety rail for the stone (concrete) steps in the shallow end all have had the rail going down the middle of the steps. The ladders in the deep end have all been on the side of the pool. |

it still looks great regardless..
after looking here
http://www.poolandspa.com/page191.htm
it seems alot of modern home pools don't have the safey rails at all, I guess it depends on the presense of children or Elderly. |

Looks great except for the water looks a bit too flat - particularly in the areas where the sunlight is shining on the water. |

Yes Alien I did notice this and will have to investigate why this is the case. I suspect I know what the problem is.
