Very nice picture! And with the warm lighting, the pool feels a lot more inviting than the cold blue that public pools use to have. :)

Wonder if the people in the apartment below me will complain if I get an indoor pool like this ? ( Maybe not this big though ;) )

Thanks, perhaps if you invite them over whenever they want, they won't mind. ;)

I would probably have to throw in free beer and barbeque for them to accept lowering their roof a meter or two ;)

Did it take long to render this image? I havn't made any big scenes for VRay yet, only played a little with HDRI and SSScattering, and the thing everyone seems to test, "the golden ring"-caustics ;)

Not a long time, I think about 30 minutes or so for a 640 x 480 image might have been a bit longer, but really low quality GI. 2 lights in the scene 1 in the water and 1 outside, transparent shadows are turned on with soft shadows enabled.

I am currently rendering 1 at 1280 x 1024 at very high quality which seems to be taking forever. 12 hours for the GI calculation. But thankfully I saved it. So next time I render it won't take very long.

Ah, so you can save VRay GI calcs?

(I havn't read the entire manual yet:o )

Is the saved GI resolution-independant or do you have to make a new calculation if you want to make a printsize render?

Downsizing works fine and actually renders better as there is a lot more detail that way, haven't tried upsizing so not sure what would happen, but I can imagine that the image would be noisy as a result.

Thanks brianalldridge, I think I will stay away from the gallery until Madmouse has entered as well ;) maybe there will be one entry that month. Maybe Madmouse can give us a heads up. ;)

The only problem is that [IIRC] Roman has stated that if there aren't enough entries for a given month then a winner won't be awarded. It's 1 thing to lose out to someone else, but to not win just because enough people didn't enter...? That'd suck for poor Daybe & MadMouse.

Indeed!!! I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't enter my Mech into the monthlys and just keep it as a private project :(

Although I'm nowhere near a level where I'd consider entering the comp, I've considered the idea that when I do feel ready of not actually showing too many [or even any] WIPs of it, that way if I do make something good [I wish!] I won't have to worry about scaring off too many people, as you seem to have done. ;)

I take your point.

But I really don't like the assumption that I would win the competition (IF I EVEN ENTER IT). Although people have been very kind in the praise that they have given me it is no forgone conclusion that I would win. There are many many better user of TS out there and as you said they may not of posted any wip's of their latest project and my mech might not stand a chance against their work.

Although its nice for my ego to hear people say that I will win I think it is very insulting to other members that could quiet easily have much better pieces up their sleeve.

As for not posting WIP's if I hadn't posted WIP's of my Mech during the modelling stage then it would of looked very different from the way it does now. The comments and especially the crits of many members helped shaped the design of the mech considerably and I have thanked them more than once. Surely this is the whole purpose of posting WIP. The WIP forum is not just a place to post renders to gain praise but more to encourage constructive crits... IMHO.

I don't mean to preach and I don't what to hijack Daybe's thread with my comment but I felt I needed to say something.

ATB and no offence meant ;)

I agree with pretty much everything you said there, I guess there's no easy solution, unless perhaps if in a given month there weren't enough entries Roman decided to carry-over those pieces that were entered to the next month.

Not a problem Steve and the comments here and else where are well deserved. I also must agree as even in this thread if I hadn't recieved any comments my image would have turned out quite a bit different as well and I am glad for that.

Many times I have entered the contests and thought I would do ok only to not show at all, these things happen. No biggie for me as I don't create images to win the contest. As you say there are a lot of users that don't post here so you never know.

what does ATB stand for?

SteveIf, you didn't even enter I would sit down and cry, you've put enough work into that mech to deserve ts8 when\if it comes out, besides think about how beatiful it'd look with fast gi. If you don't win, sell the model on renderosity and buy ts7 with the profits if you make enough off of it. Just my $0.02 worth
