hi, today purchase myself a small host and .com in order to begin tests for the upcoming 'Unofficial Online User Interactive TS7 Manual', using Mediawiki technology users will be able to add sections to the manual and keep it growing so that people can learn from each other in a ordered source. As well as adding basic things probably covered in the official manual people will be able to add tutorials for more advanced things and even less advanced to help people. It is a resource i have seen used for a few others pieces of software and i believe it to be a great asset to TS7 users.

It would be great to have as many peoples support in this as possible so let me know what you think about the idea and if anyone could offer help such as being moderators for added passages and perhaps even logo design.

I will post more updates as they happen, i am currently waiting for account activation

the website will be ts7.mat-ski.com <------ New Web Address
you can contact me via admin@mat-ski.com <---- New Email Address
or just PM me

Thanks

Souns like a good idea. Would need to be pretty thoroughly overseen and structured so as be a useful learning tool and not just a jumbled collection of tutes (some good some not so good).

Would it be set up as process themes ie. modelling - nurbs, modelling - sds, modelling - boolean, rendering - lighworks, rendering - virtualight , rendering -vray etc. or perhaps projects themes like character modelling, animating machines etc. All of the above?

It might be a good idea to make it so that only people registered to this forum can add-to/change it, to avoid spammers, trolls, etc.

you will have to create an account to add and such, plus anything added or edited will be overseen by a moderator before it is fully applied.

I am hoping that ass things are added a structure is built itself, ie those who add a tutorial, will decided if its modelling, texturing, and the sub categories within that such as Polygon modeling, Nurb modelling etc, however I will have to start it with some direction by adding a few bits so the structure can be understould, i am not toally 100% sure how Mediawiki functions yet, waiting for server to come online, however i am familiar with how to set it all up

if anyone is interested in started list of sections and email them to me, i would appreciate it, and if anyone has tutorials they feel would benefit others then also send them to me, and i will add them to the manual

One thing that I can see as a plus would be that it could even become a glossary of sorts, including basic concepts. For example: explaining what HDRI is and how to make them to the specific TS incorporation of them and how to get the best results out of them.

Things like that.

By the way, Great Idea!

well because it is public, people can add whatever they want, and if a moderator can see that its helpful then it will be added, it has on limits, i just hope it works and pulls together. I found out today the server i have payed to host the website can only allow utp 5 simultaneaous users on the mysql server, this means only 3 people will be able to access it, this is ok to start with as i need to run tests before its up fully, plus i need to see if people are interested, then i will pay for a better host, though im hoping that a donations button will come in handy lol, this is purely not profit and im doing this to benefit the community heh, its about time i do something

ok ran into some problems, my host only has an older version of PHP meaning i had to use an older version of Mediawiki, purely cosmetic differences, but ok for beta testing, its now online for those who want to try it out.

All ive gathered basically is that to add an article do a search for what you want to make it about and click Create Page, unless one similar already exists in which you can add/update what is already there, simple enough right? lol, it is also how (for those who dont plan on adding anything) you get to articles, other pages will be completed soon, going to try and make it look a little more user friendly heh, feedback on this would be gratly appreciated though.

Why not try that hosting site I mentioned in another thread?

http://dhost.info/

Aside from being free, they don't mention anything about using older versions of PHP or limiting the number of connections to the SQL database.

yeh, i think its because i couldnt use the most upto date versions, something which will be fixed when fully online, when looking into i have been thinking that itmight be best to set up a forum instead and just dissallow posting without it going through moderators first, it may involve less PHP know how because my skills arent too brilliant
