Funny 1st picture Frootee holding his free Tshirt he talked about getting. Whoever the "VIP" is it appears he liked what he saw. Looks like he hung around and that is a good thing. |

It's kinda funny, but in a sad way, that Caligari got placed across the aisle from AM like that.
That SoftImage Hi-Lo polygon normal mapping is fairly standard nowadays, so they' must've been showing off a refinement. |

It's possible that Softimage was discussing a novel method for that; I did not stay for the whole thing. What they were discussing when I was there sounded like background info. I may have missed the *good stuff*. |

Okay...
I hope no one gets insulting by this. As there are moments in 'life' that can not even be scripted.
There is a moment here that is just too funny for words.
Anyway..I may be taking this down after a bit..so take a look.
For those of you that may have never met and talked to Roman O in person I can assure you he is a great guy... intelligent, charming and witty, I know cause so am I. :)
------------
Link below is to a 1minute long Mpeg1 video with sound..(part of a larger sequence)
Roman wrapping up the show..but with a priceless moment of real world humor.
http://www.meobeco.com/odds/caligari/entro.mpg
If possible...please right click and download to view file
10 Meg
-----------
Note:
-1 Please... no critque of the video itself..lol.., as you will see 'things' happened as we filmed, poeple moved displays and changed lighting etc. as the only time we really had any space to film was after the show... when booths were being taken down..as you will 'see' and 'hear'.
Also I do not have the time right now to edit it at all, but I am sure many of you would rather see something than wait 2-3 weeks till I get back to Massachusetts.
-2 This is not an 'official' video..so please do not ipass it around to others at this time, unless they are members of the forum. I would greatly appreciate that. No reason to get me in trouble.
This is just for 'us' ...the poeple that come here, I see all of you as part of this little family we have here. I came away from Siggraph realizing, we, TrueSpace users are not THAT far behind.
Yes 'true believers' I took almost every chance I got to 'zing' Tom G. regarding 'bones' and TS 7.5, and that WHEN and IF they deliver there is going to be a huge window open for Caligari as we, the users, create some real kick a** demos for the Siggraph 2007! |

Thanks for sharing, Vinny!
That Roman...he's Mr. Energy.
:)
My favorite part:
"24...26"
I enjoyed it! |

I have exchanged so many emails with Roman over the last few years that it is good to see the person behind the urgent icon request at 3am in the morning...;) |

Well for me the 'funny' part is that just as Roman is talking about 'all the great people that were interested in Truespace'..all the sudden the tradeshow workers come by...and start to talk to him.
..and to me at least ...they do not look like potential users of '3d collaboration'..LOL
(they are looking for booth 2400 to breakdown the booth)
..thought the 'timing' was priceless, and completely unprepared. |

HA HA!
You can really see how friendly Roman is, being in the middle of an interview and answering the booth question.
Nice 2-camera setup, Vinny! That was well done. |

Yes that is correct.
Some final images from me, I did do some short video clips which I am going to have to compile to see if I can make anything out of it as a note.
First image is Marcel Barthel head turning scene which continuely got comments in how very nice and amazing it looks. At one point we had all the objects in the scene moving around using physics which ranned as smoothed as silk on Roman's new Laptop with Intel Duo processor and 7800 go graphics.
Second image captures I think what I saw thoughout Siggraph, everyone was just glued to what was being done in TS7.
Third and forth was the very first things I saw at the convention center, yes cows. There is a note that the cows are coming this summer, not sure what that means, maybe manure production, milk industry or meat gathering, not sure.
Last is another HDRI tone mapped evening image of downtown Boston.
I sure had alot of fun and hopefully will be able to attend next year's Siggraph in San Diego . Working with Roman and Thomas was absolutely fabulous and a honor, both very sharp, charismatic, witty and friendly besides being masters of tS. If you ever get a chance to attend and participate in something like this man do I recommend you to go for it! |

Great photos there guys. In one of the images above it shows the tS7 logo with the tS7 catchphrase "metaphors of life". I thought it was "metaphors of design" as quoted from the tS7 intro screen. How come they are different? |

that are great shots Humdinger and Noko! Thanks for the photos as well as the videos.
@noko - the HDRI photo from Boston looks great. How have you achieved this?
With several exposure photos and baked to a hdri or directly from a RAW file? |

Your most welcome, thanks for AWESOME scene by the way!
The HDRI was created using three different exposed raw images of Boston and Photomatix Pro was used to make a HDRI and then tonemapped for display. The detail brought out using this method compared to just one shot is spectacular.
For example, first image is one of the raw images used at normal exposure, second is same HDRI posted earlier. Compare the two images, the HDRI has much more detail and is richer. Look at the trees lower right in tonemapped HDRI version, which you can't even see in the single normal exposed shot. Cool stuff in any case especially when used in tS7 Player or Modeler :D . |

Yes - thanks heaps for the shots guys..
I used to go to Sigraph every year while with IBM - it was a great time - hung out with some australian software reseller folks and an autodesk staffer - they were all crazy, trying to make the lincoln town car get air over the humps!
I might try to make it next year - got some catching up to do... Thanks again |

Animation Master sucks anyway.
The only well-known animations I've seen that were done with AM are Killer Bean & Killer Bean 2, which were quite good, but I think tS7 has the capability to do better, or will do when 7.5 comes out. |

You've never heard of Alien Song then? Or Puppet?
tS7.5 aside - whose abilities are still speculation - if tS had 10% of the animation capabilities of A:M it would be a step forward. At present tS7 certainly cannot compete. Just hope that tS7.5 makes that step forward. |

Alien Song, yes, though didn't know what it was done in. Puppet doesn't seem to ring any bells, well, not from the name anyway. It's always possible I've seen it, but don't remember it. |

Hi all,
Back home once more :)
I'm going to start this quick write-up in Oscars style, with the thank you speech!
I'd like to thank David for being there to help man the booth, that help was invaluable. Since collaboration always takes two, it would have been hard to ever escape from the booth if it hadn't been for his help. It also helped deal with the volume of people standing looking, as that gave us more chance to talk to more people. So thanks David!
I'd like to thank David and Vinny for the show coverage. Good to see the images and videos here (have downloaded the videos but not watched them yet, will do that after posting this). We'll be using their coverage in the official post-show write up (most likely a "mini-newsletter"), not sure when that will be released, but meantime eveyone who couldn't go to the show has at least some idea of what it was like there.
I'd also like to thank all our users who dropped by - Frotee who we saw here obviously, plus all the others who came by to say hi, ask questions, and so on. Always great to meet people in person rather than by forum, email or telephone!
The show itself was great! That is, the show for us - I hardly saw anything of the actual show, other than about two 15 minute walkthroughs of the show floor. Never did get to see the Emerging Technologies hall, and didn't get any "booth swag" either, but then that wasn't what the show was about - for us, it was all about showing people what trueSpace can do.
We spoke to a lot of people from a lot of different places. We had designers and architects and those working on virtual exhibits, where collaborative spaces and free players are a great new benefit.
We had a lot of people from education, from teachers to directors in charge of organizations spanning many universities or schools across many locations.
We spoke to a lot of people from other large well known organizations, from film-makers to what people may view as "competitors".
We spoke to a quite a few students as well as teachers who were interested in things like proteins and molecules, that seemed to be another area where other software options aren't fulfilling all the needs out there.
And of course we spoke to quite a few press people.
To answer some questions from the thread too:
1. trueSpace7.5 was NOT being shown. No sense demoing in development items at a show like this, so it was the released version of trueSpace7 that was on show.
2. While trueSpace is plenty good at modeling, rendering etc, the main thing we were focused on was collaboration, since this isn't possible in other software packages, and it certainly got the attention we expected with a lot of "Wows" and "Wait, you mean it can do this? And that?". A lot of facial expressions changed from "yeah yeah modeling software I'm going to walk away now to the next booth with more modeling software" to "Oh my! Show me more" at the collaboration message ;)
The scripting and physics were also of interest, as was the quality of the real-time renderer.
3. Yes, the logo was originally "Metaphors of Life" and that banner was printed up for the Game Developer's Conference back before trueSpace7.0 was released. At release time, the tag line was changed. We felt there was enough change for people to get used to (and change can alarm people who have been using software for a long time) with the Link Editor and real-time display and completely recoded software, and we didn't want to emphasise that even more in the tag line, so we opted to make the tag line more familiar. Metaphors of Life is still more accurate though, in truth.
4. I didn't see anything sad with being close to Animation Master. Both AM and tS have been at these shows beside each other for a long time, and the founders of both companies know each other very well (and chatted and compared notes this show, as they do at every show they both attend). Like any software, AM does things we don't, and we do things AM doesn't :)
5. It was very busy, so it was hard to get a chance to talk to Roman - of course, this is good news for the company. If we were at the show and not talking to anyone, that would be a bad sign :) Also, many of the people were press or VIPs from "well known large organisations" so it made it impossible at times for us to be free just to stop and talk to others. Apologies to anyone who came by and we didn't get a chance to chat.
6. The cows of Boston - these are statues made by a local artist, and they have been placed all over Boston. They are going to be auctioned (in September I think it is) and the money goes to charity. It was the topic of much curiosity until Thursday night when Roman and I got a chance to inspect one of the cows and got the details about what they were!
Ok, that's enough summary for now! More to follow when the official write-up gets put together (though note that we most likely will not be "name dropping" on who we spoke to, that would for the most part be rude, so please don't ask :) )
Thanks!
Tom |

Glad to hear that it went so well Tom, let's hope both business and profile are now raised for TS7 and beyond...:)
There certainly is some excellent TS7 artwork to put out there now! |
