Better and better with every post Lars. I like the idea of a spear. I see this fellow as a hunter on the look out for the next meal. So a spear & a sword would probably be best. Maybe something like this.
Steve
Nice ! Didn't even think about the possibility to use the reign-hand for the spear :D
But maybe not so comfy if he has to ride for long distances ;)
I'm having a problem decided if I should stick with the very primitive,
or adding more advanced metal and ornamented things.
An advanced ornamented saddle would be very easy to make, but a saddle made of tied together pieces of wood would require a tricky design...
A spear is still very primitive (and I like your feathers), but a sword belongs to a slightly higher civilization...(and I love swords...)...decisions,decisions.. |

Pfew, just renewed my ProTeam subscription....need to rest and let my creditcard cool down ;)
Well, why not use some of the ProTeam stuff for a fun addition....:p
In Zeiphers "Low Poly War Mech" thread, Hemulin suggested that his mech and my TriBeast should battle...well, now he's prepared :D

Hrmm, ok, blackpowder cannons against rockets might still not be completely fair ;)
And before anyone asks what holds the cannons....SUPERGLUE !  |

Great stuff; it almost looks like some kind of Alien "Frontier Ranger'. The only comment I would make is that the sword looks a little too new/shiny when compared with the rest (maybe he just likes to clean and polish it often:)). Outstanding work though, and very original.
-OH, and I like the crack in the lip of the Beast, it gives a hint of realism.

guns? My first supposition was that these are pipes from a bagpipe or alike to frighten the enemy *g* |

Lol! My mech would have to retreat after seeing that. I mean, you have a battle axe! That's just cheating ;) |

Hrm, maybe it was a mistake to put the cannons on him....starting to get a bit nervous that you guys want me to keep them :D
Nah, I'm still sticking to the original plan, a sword on the back, a saddle...and perhaps a spear with feathers.
Cannons would work if the beast had been huge...like the elephant-critters in LordOfTheRings ;) |

Havn't had time lately to continue on the project but today is my last day at work before vacation starts. Now I have 5 weeks to work on my tS projects.

Is a sweet image and I concur regarding cannons. The beast could "tow" a cannon on a trailer sort of contraption. My first thought regarding the beast, was how cool it would look armour plated. |

Lol! People are taking you seriously. I was under the impression that you only gave it cannons as a quick mock up as a joke against my Mech... but the way everyone's speaking even I am starting to wonder...
I'd suggest a spear, or perhaps a Crossbow (or bow) on his back. I presume he's a hunter?
Whatever he is, it's fantastic work, adn am glad that you're finally able to get back to work on this ;)

Armour is a great idea, but also very close to my biggest weakness...making mechanical stuff ( kinda ironic that I'm a CAD-teacher ;) )

You're right, it was just a joke triggered by Hemulins comment :D
I like the idea with crossbows and spears..but I'm not sure that it will be visible enough on his back...might be hard to see what it is? |

Ahhh, I'm struggling. For some reason it feels like I could make ten creatures in the same time as one single prop...like a saddle...still no idea how to design one that looks unique/practical/alien...:(
Did fix the eyes on the driver though. I kinda liked the black eyes so I just modified my existing eye texture.
1790
A rough visualisation of the sword...which will have a LOT more polygons when it's done...and textures of course.
Not sure about the rolled up blanket though....it doesn't feel right, and I doubt that textures will make it better.

The first day of vacation is now over and I've successfully changed into "insane"-time.
Sleep during day, awake by the computer during night...a lot cooler then...well, a bit... it's currently 28deg celcius in the apartment now
Time to go to bed now, it's 6:30 in the morning

I can relate to that! It's 5.03 AM here at the moment. Just wanted to chime in and say how great I think this guy is! |

This may be stretching it, but I suddenly imagined him wearing a cape! Loosely tied around his neck. Not too sure about the cape as a 'good' idea, but it might be worth a try. Not too keen on the blanket idea personally, but I have always loved swords. Maybe you should make it a bit more ornate... I checked these out for you. Let me know if they strike up any ideas :)

I don't picture a fancy saddle at all. Something primitive yet confortable on this very bumpy beast.

Fantastic work you've done here Shike! I did like the pistol in his hand, but it's
all good!
Here's another site with an image of a stick saddle:

Thanks for the great links everyone! :D
I might actually be able to create a saddle now...was seriously thinking about ditching that idea!
Hm, the stick saddles actually look like one of my ideas...but I couldn't figure out how to make it stay on the creature.
@Zeipher:
Ah, another sword-fan. Personally I favour two kinds of swords: Japanese and Lightsabers ;)
And good to know I'm not the only one who didn't like the blanket. ;)
A cape is a good idea but havn't you seen the Pixar movie "The Incredibles"?: NO CAPE ! (He might get sucked into an airplane engine) :)
This is how far I've gotten on the swordhilt ( Sculpted/Textured in ZBrush, rendered in tS7 as usual). Tried to make it ornamented and organic...just simple phong and metal shaders, 50k polys, normalmapped.
More detail in the works, and also wear and damage...and grip of course.

You could make a normal looking saddle and add saddle bags filled with alien type fruits spilling out the top |

Hm, yes...saddlebags might look good in the back..instead of that plain looking blanket.
And it's easier to make a bag look worn than a blanket ;) |

CORR!!! That is so cool! The sword I mean. Very nice looking. I am slightly worried that some of the detail may be lost with it being so metalic, but you can't help that. It really is amazing though.
Samurai swords are the ones for me, but I can't help but love the giant ones.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
Keep it going!

Thanks ! :D And you can relax, I'm not going to use metallic, that would ruin the handle ;) ...instead some specularity-map should do the trick. Havn't started on that though.
Ah yes, big swords ala FinalFantasy !
Very cool big weapons...but I could never understand how thoose tiny kids could swing them around
Samurai swords you say...well I actually couldn't resist adding one of their trademarks to my swordhandle :p
I took a couple of photos of my sword (unfortunately just a cheap replica)
used them as texture in ZBrush....and then started to sculpt the threads and sharkskin...just to generate a normal map.
1810
I think it looks ok, and I think I might change the rest of the hilt to look more like old copper.
1811
Ah, can anyone see the handle detail on this pic ??...nah, I didn't think so...just another example on how much time I can waste on something that can't be seen in the final images.
Guess I'll never learn :D |

Thanks! And *Sigh*..I hate to admit it... but you're right. I really like the Katana-handle...but it doesn't match the rest. :(
And since the detail isn't visible it looks like a black handle with white diamond shapes :D
I think I'll try some bone-screwshapes instead.
Looking terrific Lars. Really...really great!!!!
Thanks ! :D
You don't speak/read japanese by any chanse? I'm curios about the symbols on the chest...not sure that I got them right. |

I like the tattoos, it makes the sword not seem out of place. |
