You don't speak/read japanese by any chanse? I'm curios about the symbols on the chest...not sure that I got them right.

I was gonna say the same thing!
Lars this is looking outstanding! The tattoos really give that otherworldly fine touch to your tribeast rider - does he have a name?
Well done dude - I salute your attention to detail! |

He,he...since I apparantly don't have japanese fonts installed, I could only see a lot of squares here...was kinda surprised that Bablefish could translate the squares back into english :D

Thanks !
Well, it was your "Symbols" thread that got me inspired about tattoos :D
His name is on the chest-tattoo.... well, maybe..it might serve a different purpose ;)
BTW Taking a short brake from truespace now...one week without any gaming was too much..had to buy the addons for Oblivion. :p
But will most likely be back with an update this weekend ;) |

Ah, can anyone see the handle detail on this pic ??...nah, I didn't think so...just another example on how much time I can waste on something that can't be seen in the final images.
Guess I'll never learn :D
You might consider working on your lighting. The details of the handle are there but you just can't see them because the lighting is not quite right. It is an outside scene in bright sunlight, yet you have the handle hidden by a dark shadow. A few fill lights and a backlight to really pop out the 3D effect and you'll have it. |

This is very impressive, love the tatooes. Use tone mapping to get HDRI in background more realistic you might try. Character detail is very nice. |

Thanks! He,he..ok, why not in Beta: I guess NDA would prevent me from posting here ...and then it would take even longer between my posts ;)

You're right, additional lights would bring out the detail. :)
Still, when I do the final image with the Tribeast shown, the swordhandle will be small, even in my highres-print render.
I think my new handle will work better.

PC of course ! :D
I will never get a console...well, not until they are equipped with a mouse as standard...and keyboard...but then it would be called a computer, wouldn't it ;)
But now I'm back...I must have done 99.99% of all the missions and the addons didn't last long.
(the summer when the previous ElderScrolls game, Morrowind, came, I spent my entire 5 week vacation playing it....even I felt that I wasted that vacation :p )

Thanks! I probably won't need tonemapping in the final render, since I plan to make my own HDRI image and at the same time take a clean backgroundphoto to match the creature in...I want it too look like it stands on the ground but wonder if I'll actually succeed with that. :D |

The driver went back to the manufacturer and demanded a swordhandle sculpted in a single piece of bone.
And as you can see, he specifically asked for an uncomfortable handle :D

Pc? Wonderful! Get the no-gates Mod. It gets rid of all the loading times and has you enter the cities seamlessly (AMAZING). Also, have you tried playing around with the Oblivion.ini file? I've tinkered with it so now trees don't pop into view, grass stretches on for miles, and everything (Trees, Grass, Boats, Walls, Rocks, EVEN PEOPLE) has a reflection in water. Oh, and I altered the decay time for blood, so there's more of it and it takes 999 seconds to disappear ;) Oh the fun. Made the game worth playing again.
Anyway, the driver... driver? Rider is a stubborn man, but I don't mind what the manufacturer gave him. That sword is pretty cool, might even prefer it to the other one. I'd prefer to ride one of those TriBeasts than a silt-srider any day. Keep it going! Oh, might I be able to ask to see a wireframe view of it all? I'd love to see how many polys you can fill a screen with ;)

Wow ! Do you have some kind of supercomputer? :D
I've tinkered a bit with the ini, but mostly to be able to create screenshots (kinda stupid that it's not active by default in a amazing game like this  )
Actually strange that some of the modders are able to make the game run smoother than the developers intended !?

Yes, the driver...didn't you see the steering wheel ? Hrmm...:o
The wireframe...well, remember that you asked for it ;)
1893
It does become a bit dense when working with subdivision surfaces even though I can keep it down a bit with normalmapping.
Object Polycount:
SwordHandle 55k
TriBeast 120k

Yup! Andy's got himself a supercomputer :D Maybe I'll post a screen shot some time. I tell people that I got bored of Oblivion really fast, but if I look at the number of hours I played it, we're talking about over 200! Didn't feel like it! Try the gates mod. It didn't really slow down the game for me, and it makes it feel so much better. Loading screens suck! I think there's a way to put your sword into the game... now that would be something sweet :D
The number of polys are crazy! I knew they'd be high, but that's... crazy! I always work with low-polys, as I get way too confused with anything else. Also I'm impatient, so I don't like waiting for things to render (I do A LOT of test renders!) You and I are different in the respect that 2 weeks ago I'd have looked at your work and said "I'm finished!" You on the other hand have squeezed out even more, lol. I'm wondering when you're going to call it finished :D I'd still love to see it animated... but with that many polygons I don't think that's going to happen for at least a decade ;) Shame.
Ah well, like I keep saying... KEEP GOING!

Shike, I have followed this one from the begining and I thank you for showing us the progress. My question is : Why can't you use a lower Poly with the normal map, TS7 cannot do this? (in Modeler)
Is this the smaller version already? (almost 400k)
I would like to try normal mapping with Hexagon2 and want to understand the process better. |

@Zeipher:
I wouldn't want my sword in Oblivion( you can't defeat anyone with just a handle ;) )...but I would like to have a good Daedric Dai-Katana...I've seen a couple of mods but they are kinda crappy...though I doubt that I would do better...Low-poly isn't my department.
BTW This isn't a lot of polys...remember that in my first renders the TriBeast had more polys than this entire scene :D
@Alien:
Yup, I'm a big fan of Giger's work, and my Pregnoid pic is very inspired by his style (lots of tubes in head) :D
I even have is Arh+ book, which is great but not for sensitive people ;)
@daybe:
Thanks :D
@Steinie:
Ah, a tricky question...
I'm still not sure if it's a limitation of trueSpace/Normalmapping or my skills (most likely the latter ;) )
If anyone knows more of this subject please feel free to correct me!
If I understand Normal-mapping, there is two types:
1.
TangentSpace(mostly blue) - Better than bumpmapping.
Which is almost like a Bumpmap, but you don't need (or can) change the height, contains more colors then bumpmapping which gives less staircase effects.
I generate this in ZBrush2 as the difference between a highpoly and higher poly to get a bit more detail in the render.
It doesn't really work when you want to simplify the model a LOT.
2.
ObjectSpace(very colorful) - Used for extremely simplified models.
This basically handles the normals of the entire object and can be generated by ts7 and ZBrush2 as the difference between LowPoly and HighPoly.
When rendered you only see that it's a lowpoly around the edges of the model.
However...I havn't been able to use Objectspace maps from ZB2 in ts7....it just looks strange.
And even though ts7 can generate this map with PolyReduction tool, it seems like you have to switch to tangentspace maps if you want to use it outside of the realtime player...but don't quote me on that
Also.. the process of using it outside of player is still a bit complicated...I'm waiting for a button that does all the work ;)
Please note that I've only tried a couple of times...havn't posted any formal support question about how to best use ObjSpcMaps...
When I discovered that TangSpaceMaps worked I just switched over to that. |

Made some finetuning on the rider arms and head, added veins...
1899
Lightworks HDRI
1900
VRay...ah, I constantly get confused by how the HDRI is mirrored...I think it's because the coordinate system is different in Player..?
And I can hardly see the normalmapping...I think it's because I have a light grey GI...and HDRI...which washes it out?
Still a novice in VRay
1901
Realtime-payer..just because I'm still amazed that it's possible to spin around all of this with textures and normal-mapping ;) |

I prefer the light-works image myself. The stomach area looks really great. Hey, I just wondered... does this thing have a gender? Lol! You should give him a proper name rather than 'Rider' all the time ;)
The detail on the arm looks great. So your going to make your own HDR image? Crazy! See, I demand you join the Beta-Team! So much talent would be useful!

Chuckle, yes he has a gender, just like Barbies Ken ;)
Name...*scratching baldspot*... ok, maybe: Ng'lek ? Should be hard enough to pronounce to pass as an alien name? ;)
The delay from posting now is because I've started thinking about the background...maybe I need to create a real alien world instead of a photo of swedish nature...ah, my head hurts...this will take time :( |

Rhyd'er..he,he, at least my naughty mind understood that one :D
Hm, maybe a combination of brianalldridge's and Zeiphers suggestion..like X'bob ?
Ok..here is a veeeeeeeeeeeeery rough concept sketch of what I plan to do in the scene. Starting to feel like I'm drowning in this project...if you recall...it was originally only planned to be a TriBeast...with nothing else...
1933
I did alter the lighting by using offset in PShopCS2 on the ParisHDRI to move the sun a bit.
Also... since memory might be an issue now when it becomes a scene..I'll probably be forced to render bit's and pieces and then composit everything in photoshop...which means:
Now the camera position is LOCKED. (Well..at least very soon ;) ) |

Nah, it HAS to be a mountain range. If you stick a city in the background it might lose it's primal look. If, on the other hand, you have a destroyed city, similar to that which you see in Final Fantasy: Advent Children, that could work. It would make it seem as though he is only one of a few survivors... and people will make up a story about him. The 'planet' in the background is a cool idea... would that mean that this is based on a moon? It is all looking good!
