Ok, I had to fix the polygonmesh for the driver in ts7, and start again in ZBrush.

1713

New mesh with fingers and overall a better shape.

1714

1.5 hours later this was the result. Still needs a lot of work and I need

to go over my anatomy books again...seems to have forgotten about some muscle-groups ;)

1715

And of course the driver on his "horse". :rolleyes:

Wow, Shike. Is he putting his hand up to shade the sun from his eyes while he glances the horizon for any more tribeasts? (I'm presuming it's a he:D )

Crazy stuff, must have a look at ZBrush. Now I think we all want to see that couple in a nice scenery. :cool:

You'd better be animating this! This is great work. Very fast too! If you are animating it, what will you be using? Native, MoStu? Or might you be waiting for tS7.5?

This is well wicked! (I don't know if they say that in Sweden buts trust me - it's good!)

Something about the pose and the riders position reminds me of something - I can'tr quite place it. It may be an image from the old Ralph Bakshi cartoon movie "Wizards" that I'm thinking of.

Whatever this looks great - I'm with GraySho - lets see it in a scene...please!

Great to see someone working tS into a ZBrush workflow as tS has been somewhat overlooked as a base modeler. I love the rider in particular, good sculpting. I hope that with tS7.5 you'll be able to bring this to life in a manner that will make other package users jealous!

How about beta testing?

How about beta testing?

I was going to suggest the exact same thing. We could do with a guy like him on our team :D

For some reason I see this pair sitting atop a crest in a desert or arid landscape, with a dimly seen planet in the background dampened by a bright blue sky. Maybe a loincloth type of garb on the rider and a saddle and baggage on the tribeast. These are just suggestions of course, just taking your work into my own mind's eye. Very nice stuff. You're doing amazing work.

To all of you: Thank's for your kind comments ! :o

Now over to the specific answers:

@hemulin:

You're quite correct, a shading glancing feeling was the intention :)

And, yep..the driver is a He.

@GraySho:

Hope you also end up beeing a ZB+tS user :)

Ah..scenery, Yes I really have to get out to take background photo's and HDRI-photos....preferably before the summer ends ;)

@Zeipher:

I'm a still-picture guy, never used much of the animation tools (not even aniPak) but I'm hoping that tS7.5 gives us stable and powerful bones to make it possible to alter character poses.

And if it's really easy to use and learn...I might try to animate it.

@rj0:

Hopefully the driver will become detailed enough for closeups..not yet though ;)

@W!ZARD:

Ah, wicked is a term I'm familiar with ( unlike Dirigible ;))

Not seen that movie but you might be right...the pose is probably rather common.

@MadMouse:

Even though I've seen mechanical stuff done in ZBrush...I personally wouldn't dream of trying to do your mech in it...maybe an organic one...made in flesh ? ...ish, creepy ;)

@Mike & Zeipher:

I don't dare download the beta of ts7.5, I would only get sidetracked, playing with functions, and not be able to post anything because of the NDA ;)

( I downloaded the beta of tS7..and that distracted me way too much from the project I was working on back then.)

@rotcorp:

Your suggestions are very close to what I had in mind. :)

Although, since I plan to take the background photos and HDRI images myself...and Sweden is pretty much covered in forest...there wont be a desert...the closest I could get is a sandbox in the playgrounds or a beach. ;)

Was too tired yesterday to do much work, and today I got sidetracked by VRay. Just went through the course and decided to test the SubSurfaceScattering shader.

Only one omni light in the scene, a couple of meters away and blocked by the hand.

Also time to renew the ProTeam subscription... gotta look around the apartment for spare change ;)

Gnarly hands! It'd be cool to have him on a mountain, looking across at at an exploding volcano, this would also explain why there aren't any more of them:p

Shike..you might not have a desert, but ice and snow makes for a great frozen desert..maybe the aurora borealis over head..

your rider's torso is great ..he seems to be a hungry fellow..he must be going on a hunting expedition..:D

I'm just thinking out loud..great work Shike..

Yeah, I like it Shike, maybe you should try a little internal luminance, so that he glows out from the background a bit.

He,he, yeah, it's a better explanation than: My computer can only handle one of them ;)

Thanks!

Yeah, the SSS pic might have been a little to dark...probably have to go through the course (and manual) again ;)

Thanks ! Snow...brr...then I would have to make a lot more clothes for the poor guy ;)

Yep, it's a hunting expedition he's on....here he is in Paris, hunting for..pizza ?

( know of a couple of french dishes...but have no idea how they are spelled :rolleyes: )

1728

Lightworks HDRI (paris11)

Have done some detailing on him and started on the texture (the eyes are just painted flat black).

Also changed HDRI image...for the last couple of posts I used a forest HDRI that came with 3DWorld...but it was a little dark and the direction didn't give shadows in the right places.

Was a bit suprised that the Paris11 matched perfectly in direction! The hand actually shadows the eyes ! :D

Shike: This is absolutely fantastic to watch! You're an excellent artist. I've been wanting to do more fantasy type stuff like this myself. I got a little more caught up in learning and practice type projects. Also I haven't been able to afford Zbrush yet, but I do have Hexagon now. This is really inspiring work Shike! Makes me want to get back on track to what I really want to be creating. Thanks for sharing this. Keep up the outstanding work! :)

The shadows in that last image look spot on to me. Shades his eyes with his hand perfectly. Can't wait to see a scene around him. :)

Thanks ! I'll have to thank you guys also, it's your support that keeps me on track ! :D

I previously tended to start a project, then get distracted, then resume the project a couple of months/years later.

The forum has been a perfect motivation tool for me...I seem to need a bit of pressure to keep working ;)

Wow thats a real looking render! When does he get his clothes?

Ah, clothes...maybe that's why he's in Paris, to check out the summer collection :D

Havn't started to think about the loincloth design yet...I might do a rough version of it soon to make him a bit more decent ;)

Actually, not sure if he needs clothes, he's about as anatomically correct as a Ken-doll ;)

Warning ! Don't step into the "Glassifier Beam" ! :p

1732

Stan's awesome glassrenders finally got me to try VRay caustics :D

(Couldn't wait until I had a project that actually needed caustics ;))

The render took 15-30 minutes, Only one spotlight in scene, the HDRI is only used for reflection/refraction.

I did use the Freznel shader...but I can't clearly see the difference between reflections/refractions...probably had the settings wrong :o

Oh well, this was just for fun. Back to the tedious work of texturing...or sleeping..it's getting late over here :rolleyes:

Ah, volymetrics....does VRay support that yet? Might try it some time but now I'll try to keep on track with the modelling... hard for someone as easily distracted as me.

Well, I didn't produce much geometry today. Spent a lot of time to get "steering leather thingy" (can't even remember what it's called in swedish ;))

1738

It's just a polygon sweep... took a while to manually rotate and move the sections to follow the tribeast body. :p

(The mouthpiece is temporary...didn't want the leather things to end in mid-air)

Also spent a lot of time doing concept sketches of the following:

Saddle

Sword

LoinCloth

I think you mean the reigns, you got a good sence of weight on them for a polygon sweep. Wouldn't a spear be more practical for hunting? Plus you can add feathers on it and such too:D

The sword idea I had in mind is to have it mounted on his back (only hilt showing) and a strap around the chest. Not sure if spears can be mounted that way? And since I still don't have a clear picture about how the saddle should look...I don't know if anything can be mounted to it.

Spear with feathers is a nice idea....it's possible that he has an extra tribeast out of picture that carries that and pelts, meat, berries or whatever he's looking for, this skinny traveller/gatherer/hunter/warrior/warlock/jedi/sith/salesman/forummember.... ;)

Better and better with every post Lars. I like the idea of a spear. I see this fellow as a hunter on the look out for the next meal. So a spear & a sword would probably be best. Maybe something like this.
