I'm not here just shadowing your board guys :D its taking me a while to read

all the threads and posts made here. One of the things I have thought was

strange sense I came here was the number of people. It seems like there should

be a lot more. Is this a new board or something? I mean having 500+ users on

a board is great! but its seems a small number compared to the number of TS

users if you know what I mean. Even the Game Space board has a 1000+ users

and its relatively new to the Caligari line of products.

Comments? talk to me, I value your thoughts ;)

Eagle,Yes this is a new Forum, they recently closed the old one. You can still read the postings there. Then there is the TSL and the new/old Pro Team Beta Testers Board. You also have the truePlay areas for meetings. Then you have 325 users that would rather read content then submit. It's nice that your here and I'd like to see more people join in also. So far the arrogant know it all types are sticking to other boards. So great numbers does not always create great environments. The complaining here has always been for better software. This place will be what we make it.
I for one hope you stick around.:)

I find this board to be a lot quieter than previous one. I kinda figured most of the folks I "knew" from there are in the Proteam forum. There is a wealth of info in the CaliArchive!

In the old one there were 60794 post I rounded the length of service to 4 years which came to 15199 post a year.

This forum is not even a year old and has 15809 post so far. I think it will get better as we go. Just wait what happens when 7.5 comes out!

ahh, that makes sense, being that this is a new board it will take a while to

grow. Also I will be here, I joined this forum to be part of this community. I

have a lot to learn but I think I have things I can offer as well ;) I'm kind of

waiting to see what the big dogs are going to do with the TS7.5 release, I

wonder if they are going to release a new GS version that will have some of

the features. If not I will get TS7.5 because I want the new UV mapping

system they are putting in. :D

I've been lurking on and off for a few years as time permitted, but I finally got some free time and my account set up so I could post. :D

I agree with Steinie. This forrum has a great atmosphere and everyone really wants to help each other get better.

I also think that there aren't a lot of active posters because trueSpace users are generally hobiests and don't really have the specific 3D knowledge to put TS to use effectively. I definitely was in that category. But there are great tutorials on the web now that explain the 3D creation process that weren't there when I got started in 3D and now it's a lot easier to learn the workflow to make great content.

I found the biggest hurdle that always discouraged me the most was not understanding why the UV tools "didn't work". What I didn't realize is that no software has completely automatic UV mapping tools and that the UV maps had to be created in a tedious step by step process and that the tools where there if you knew what to do. Which I didn't lol.

As far as modeling went, the old tS solid view wouldn't let you get close enough to your mesh to do detail work without the wire frame tearing away from the solid render and when you finally get the view right the nav widgets would get in the way. Which would always frustrate the crap out of me. The new TS7 Player view doesn't have these problems and now I'm finding that I can get work done.

Hopefully when TS 7.5 comes out and we get the completed Player-side poly toolsets, new UV tools, and new animation engine, more people will become interested in TS and will be able to more easily produce content and will be active in the forums.

In the end though if we don't help teach new people the skills to use the software it won't matter how good the software is.

Personally I found the CGTalk forums are a great resource for learning 3D. The techniques used in the other apps are just as valid for TS. In the end no matter what your tool it still comes down to building a mesh, texturing it, and lighting it. :o

An interesting topic for a new thread might be a discussion of 3D workflow using trueSpace. It would be really interesting to see how we each do things and I think a lot of people could really benifit from that and find it useful.

This is a great board and I like the people here! I spend most of my time over

on the Game Space site so if you ever want to talk to me and you can't find

me here look on the Game Space forum. To be honest I'm not sure if I am suppose

to be here or not, but I figured if you use a Caligari product what’s the harm

;)

Jack: Could not have said any better. My sentiments exactly! Are you going to start the “3D workflow using trueSpace” thread? This is a great idea!

Good to see you around here Vickie. Always nice to see more females in the 3D community-very inspiring for the many female students I have this year who still think this game is just for boys...:D

Glad to hear you've got many female students, Splinters. Maybe the male domination will start declining now!

Apart from me, Emma and your good self, Vickie, I don't know if there are any other females lurking around these parts so I wish you a very big welcome!

Hi TheWickedWitchOfTheWeb,

Its great to know that there are other girls here! I kinda thought there was

I just didn't know who. Its really nice to be accepted! For a long time I never

told anyone I was a girl but for some strange reason they always knew. When

I got older I just didn't care if they knew or not! I shouldn't have to hide just

because I like to do something not a lot of girls like to do. I think I had to grow

up to realize most guys don't care either way, if your work sucks they will let

you know just like they would anyone else! hehehe!

good to know your here!

LOL Hey I just started posting so I don't want to hog the board and annoy everyone. :D

I'm gonna focus a bit on getting the UV mapping done on my dog project, if later today no one has started the thread, I'll put it up.

You're one of the few still around...hell, you even know my real name :)

If Mattam is not on board anymore , he must have been assimilated into the mothership.

The world is changing, you woman are rendering Cars, Wizards, Game designs etc. and I'm rendering Flowers.....must be my feminine side......
