Thought I'd start a thread for the community to share different skin shaders and various SSS shaders that they've come up with.

Here's my contribution:

I added a white phong material ball for comparison to make sure the lighting was ok.

Settings are:

http://www.motbc.com/ForumStuff/SkinVRaySettings.pnghttp://www.motbc.com/ForumStuff/SkinMaterialSettings.png

Envirionment is set to: (RGB) 39/39/39

Lighting is one point light set at: (RBG) 188/188/188

The bumpmap can be found in your tS texture directory.

here is the tilable texture map:

It lost some detail and color depth in the conversion to JPG but the TGA file was 4 megs...

And for Splinters, the scene file:

Sorry tS 7.1 only since it uses VRay. Never posted one of these before so you'll have to let me know how it turns out.

Feel free to tweak or use this in your own projects.

Hey maybe we should make a sort of standardized material test scene so that we can better share materials in the tS community?

Jack, very nice!
I have not played with the SSS shader yet, so this gives me a great starting point for experimentation. Thanks for sharing! :)

I don't have V-ray, but thought I'd just suggest using .PNG files instead. It's lossless - AFAIK, unless you tell it to save to 256 colour or greyscale, & even then only if you're converting from an image that had more colours.

Yeah thought about posting it as a PNG, but needed the extra JPG compression. I did use a less lossy setting though. Gonna be posting more stuff in the future and don't want to use up all my transfer allowance on my server. Hosting cost goes way up then and then I'll have to start taking stuff down.

If anyone want's the png version I can e-mail it or put it up on P2P.

For the skin texture though it shouldn't make that much difference since people are going to need to build up extra layers anyway for additional detail like veins, bruising, and stuff.

Basically to make it, I sampled from photos and composited. Some clouds and noise renders to add variation. But to make it tileable I had to be careful not to add too much variation.

Another option would be to put it on the trueSpace library (http://www.truespacelibrary.com/tl/).

Thanks Alien, that's a great idea.

I'll throw the texture file up there as a PNG, but I want to give the give the material some more tests and some tweaks on a high res model before I put that up as a zip file package.
