Nice :) , however don't you think his helmet should have smears of paint on it, not a layer covering it. I think his visor could do with a streak of paint running down it. |

what do you think so far?
I think it looks Great!!:jumpy::jumpy:
(Although yes it needs a considerable amount of rubble around Harold) |

Looks good Paul. I think the corner of sky is just crying out for a moon and maybe some streaks of moonlight hitting Harold. Maybe a small lens flare to try and sell the silver a bit more.

Oh no! Well it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye! Poor old Harold! I hope he's paid his insurance...:D
I think madmouse has a good point about selling the silver (and no I'm not talking about putting your cutlery on E-Bay ;) ). I was looking at the bike head light and thought it could use some volumetric haze (as the dust settles) and some really bright highlights as the light reflects from the spilled paint.
I also wondered about a chunkier tread pattern on the sole of his boots but as always it's looking great. |

Ah, the bike headlight. I wanted a volumetric beam from it and another one piercing through the hole and cracks in the shed BUT I have HDRI on here and last time I tried volumetrics with HDRI they did not work. Has anyone managed to get Volumetrics and HDRI working together?
Likewise can anyone on team Caligari confirm the inability to do this?
Thanks for tips and comments though guys...:) |

Ah! Shame about the volumetrics - I kinda liked that idea. You could try the old-fashioned pre-volumetrics way and put in a hazy mostly-transparent cone to simulate the volumetric effect as in this picture (http://www.caligari.com/Gallery/ImagesGallery/2005/Aug/image.asp?Cate=GImages&img=1787&email=stephen.may@paradise.net.nz&name=Stephen%20May) and this picture (http://www.caligari.com/Gallery/ImagesGallery/2005/Sep/image.asp?Cate=GImages&img=1831&email=stephen.may@paradise.net.nz&name=Stephen%20May).
One of my favourite things about trueSpace is that there's usually more tjhan one way to get what youwant out of it.... |

I might try a volumetric and HDRI render and do some Photoshop magic...;) |

Simple volumetrics works with HDRI, advance does not mix to well. In Global environmental map panel uncheck "Use only Envir. Lights" then set up a spotlight for volumetrics and it will work. |

I knew about the 'uncheck' bit Noko, I was using advanced volumetrics-thanks, I will give it a try...:) |

Noko, I set up a new blank scene with a spotlight and for the life of me I could not get simple volumetrics to show, with or without HDRI, I turned on advance and voila they were there. HDRI worked with them as well so I was happy. Went back to my scene and used same setup....no go on the volumetrics with HDRI on but they are there without...
Is this a bug or a limit of LW engine? |

OK, here are the options;
1st image is Volumetrics on/HDRI off
2nd image is Volumetrics off/HDRI on
3rd Image is both turned on...what gives...any ideas? |

I think the middle one is best but needs the volumetrics from image 1 and maybe some sparkle type effects to point out the silverness of the paint.

Paul: You could always just render the post processing with the volumetrics onto a separate Photoshop layer and then blend it with the HDRI render. |

Hmmm, using spotlight for simple volumetrics? With shadows turned on with raycast type selected? Volumetric uses raycast shadows for effect. This should work. Will try simple scene and get back with ya :). |

Seems to be working, HDRI plus simple volumetric, used your Ducati model, head light has spotlight inserted using transparent shadows so beam comes out of light. Downtown Chicago. Other option would be to turn off shadow casting for the head lamp lens and use solid shadows, wasn't sure which object was the lens so transparent shadows did the trick. One thing I've found, it is easy to miss a step and not get volumetrics. Any luck yet splinters? |

Got them working in a test scene but not so well in my own scene. I think I will just try and layer two renders in Photoshop. Really should read the manual too...where it say's not to mix them both. Really appreciate your efforts though Dave...cheers...:) |

Yes, the manual does say not to mix the two but it should have been a little more specific in reference to Advance Volumetrics. Now I am eager to see what happens next in Harold's New Bike :jumpy:. |

I'm gonna try volumetrics as an extra layer but the main image is taking shape now. I feel I am close to finishing this-any further suggestions? |

Looking great now Paul, One thing that caught my eye was the bottom of the tin on Harolds foot, it looks a little blank, maybe just a simple bump map to ad a little detail? and If your after suggestion... If the crash is ment to of just taken place you could try the old cartoon standard of a ring of stars around his head to show he's dizzy?

Great idea Steve. Here is a 'mock-up' I will put it in the final render along with the volumetrics. Any more details needed in the picture, do you think? |

I still think there should be that sort of drip on his helmet. (However, your work :rolleyes:) |

Poor Harold, you're such a brute Splinters ;)
It looks awesome ! :D
One note though: Since the Mirrors/Antennas are a part of the next events (if I understood the storyline), maybe they should be more visible...a little metallic paint perhaps? |

Well when such an axe-sigh-dent happens, those nearby show up; mice, ants, birds and such could be standing around looking at him, discussing the scenario. |

Looking good! My only comment would be to do with the tin on his foot. The tin shows much signs of ageing (ie, rusty) yet the base of it looks nice and new, maybe add a touch of rust there as well? (Would also stop it looking like another top) |
