Anyone else need generic models at a minutes notice just to realise 3D Cafe is STILL DOWN! :(
I did warn you ;)
I like the fact that the "sale" writing on the baloons is slightly worn. |

Anyone else think there is a bit too much red in this image?
Thinking of making SUPERMARKET in background just plain black... |

Wow that was a quick response, I was just about to add:
The inside of the bike shop looks a little too uninviting, I think there should be something there other than the ducati (or whatver it is); maybe a Desk or another bike (different orientation). Is beige really the colour you want? |

Grass green is good, there doesn't seem to be it anywhere else in the image. |

Yeah I need to work on the whole colour/composition/light thing when everything is in place. I squint and see if Harold remains the focus but leading the eye around the scene to gain extra information (sale, bikes etc.) before being led into the shop window. Image should tell a story itself and there should be lots of detail but I worry that adding much more in will make it too busy.
As for another bike-I doubt the scene would load-getting very busy here...:o
Also, I am thinking that Harold is on his way home from work (hence briefcase) and the shops are actually shut-hence dim light in shop windows. I will change background to sunset and relight a little-perhaps a low poly bike and a desk will help...if my PC can take it. |

Whats eating it up? The Ducati or Harold? How many poly on each? |

God only knows-have you tried loading the Ducati alone into TS7? It is in the default scene library.
Because I noemally only model for a final still image-I SDS everything so it is nice and smooth.
Remember the question you asked about why I put a cylinder in the scene instead of Harold?... |

~45K. I just managed to load the Ducati scene & make another 3 copies of it. How much memory have you got? [I've got 2GB] I'll admit moving around the scene is somewhat sluggish, even in OGL [which is normally very smooth on my 9600], however was surprised to notice that whilst the Player is normally somewhat sluggish for me, it didn't appear much more so than usual, even with 4 Ducatis.
Woulda thought your 9800 would cope alright with that, or do you have less system memory than I do? You could always try that image substitution thing that puts the more detailed models in at render time. Haven't actually had need to try it myself yet, but it sounds like it might help.
[Can't wait till I get an X800 GTO 256MB in about 3 weeks :D] |

Really liking this! And really enjoying seeing it coming together. See what you meant about the red content. Must admit I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it but now... :-)
Glad the A Frame board worked out. As for detail in the shop, could you get away with images on planes as it's only background detail to keep the poly count down? Failing that, put shutters over the windows and a poster of the bike on them! :) |

Thanks guys.
Alien> I have Athlon 3000Xp and 2Gb DDR400 as well as 256mb Radeon 9800 Pro. Perhaps my idea of sluggish is different to yours-I am impatient and this did not fly around the screen so much and took at least 3 mins to render to screen,,,:D
As for Ducati-it always worked well in player-don't know why. Perhaps that is why Roman was so keen to have it in TS7 release-that and that fact that so much promo stuff used it as well. However, my Ducati has a few extra polygons on it
Thought I might as well use it for Harold's story too!
Working on Harold's overcoat/raincoat today and hopefully this image will be finished this weekend... |

Hmm... well I have a 3200XP [only 200Mhz difference, IIRC], but my 9600 Pro only has 128MB, so... http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/smilies/dunno.gif
I know what you mean about sluggish though, which is 1 of the reasons I haven't really used the Player much yet.
On the too-much-red issue, what about changing the colour of the stripes on the supermarket's awning? Perhaps green? If you want to keep the sign red, you might want to tone it down a bit, make it less bold/intense. Also, whilst the DOF does look good, it seems to have made the red bleed into the white areas of the sign & awning, which is not so good, & definitely adds to the feeling of too-much-red. |

NO! You can't even think about going down to that level. You'd scare all of your young readers into becoming the ultimate chavs; not really something you want to do. |

If ever a book would limit Harold's appeal strictly to the British:
Harold Blings it up
Sorry...couldn't resist.
Next pic will have him next to a 'pimped up ride', a red phone box, outside a kebab shop sporting an England banner. Just need to add bling.
Now that would be a funny poster. Any good tattoo textures.... |

I think there are far too many chavs as it is, with out encouraging more! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/smilies/no-chav.gif |

OK, last chance folks-I am open to all suggestions here. I have put another banner in the shop and darkened road surface. Also added a sunset background and it is rendering now...expect it finished tomorrow. So, any final offers? |

Well I had to use my "English" to English Dictionary to find out what a "Chav" was. I'm sorry I found out!;) Not sure I can tell he's wearing a rain coat, brighter yellow maybe like you used on the Supabikes sign ? |

One thing I've noticed about cycle shops is that the inside walls are plastered with posters and banners proclaiming the brands they carry are hung from the ceiling.(I wouldn't normally be so critical exept the quality of your artwork is quite astounding) |

I agree with what both Brian & MadMouse said. Also, that awning still doesn't look right [to me at least], but other than that it looks great. :) |

This looks really good ! Could compete with Wallace&Gromit any day! :)
Wouldn't mind seeing some slight glint of the balloon strings though...but I have a feeling that might not be visible in the printed version anyway ;)
£2000 for a Ducati... even I might be able to afford that..where can I find this store ? :D |

Strings are there but so small they do not show up-never fear Photoshop is here...;)
Ad says Bikes from £2000-not sure what you would get for that but certainly not a Ducati...
Cheers guys-just doing a 1600x1200 test render now...:) |

Thanks for all the support guys-you really did change the way this was going, and for the better if I might add...:D
I would consider this image finished now. In a day or two I will post the final page as promised so those who follow the thread can eventually get the entire book.
In the meantime-the first image and the last-for those who cannot remember that far back...;)
Thanks to all... |
