Hi Folks.

I'm getting into some 3D gaming and was wondering is there much of a difference between TrueSpace and GameSpace? Being a TrueSpace (5) owner, can I do all my game modelling and animation in TrueSpace and save out the models as a .X file or is GameSpace specifically designed with this functionality in mind? If so, if there a addon pack for TrueSpace to get all the features of GameSpace into it or can TrueSpace owners avail of a discount on purchasing GameSpace?

Hi Paul,

When I was deciding on which program to buy (gameSpace or trueSpace) I asked the same questions. I was told that GS is built from TS and has a few alternate export options and modeling tools that help with game modeling. TS has more rendering options and other modeling tools not found in GS. These game specific features can be added to TS by getting the gamePak and conversionPak. So you can end up with a more powerful program by adding to your existing TS setup.

Now the question is whether the gamePak and conversionPak will work with ts5.x. I bought ts6.6 along with the gamePak/conversionPak and game level exporter. If I knew how to use all these extra features, I'd be able to answer more questions, but at the moment I'm still learning how to use them...

Gamespace 1.6 and TrueSpace 6.6 are basically the same program other than TS does not have the game specific formats to save to that GS has. Also TS can save longer animations scenes than can GS, I believe GS had a aniamtion frame limit of 100 -200 or some such thing. TrueSpace and GS both work with the Motion Studio plugin, though TS does not have the frame limit that GS does.

With a program like Milkshape and/or Ultimate Unwrap 3D you have most of any game specific formats covered that you may need. Many of the GS users are also using the program Fragmotion to do their game character animations with, though you can use plugins like Puppeteer or the one from CKGameFactory (damn I forgot the name :D). All of the level exporting plugins for GS should work in TS with no problems...

I am not sure whether some of the level exporters would work with TS 5 though, someone who has the exporters and TS5 would have to confirm that.

Hope that is what you were looking for.

Thanks. I've been just looking at the GamePak plugin for TrueSpace. It says it's for TrueSpace 6.6 so that rules me out. I have some cash put aside to make the upgrade from TrueSpace 5 to 7.5 when it ships so I'll hold out till then and see how things pan out.

Appreciate the info, thanks again.
