I made a deal with my wife that I can keep all my disability back pay from the government to buy a new 3d app of my choice.
I can model and I can uvmap and I can paint my models but posing and hair are still my holy grail.
Truespace always keeps calling to me. My problem is I really want an app that has proper hair which TS does not have yet. There are hints at hair in 7.5 but the hint seems more to point to vray hair rather than actual Truespace hair so that would price it out of my reach as purchasing vray along side the TS upgrade (I own 6.6) is too much for me.
Does anyone know for a fact if hair will be standard in TS 7.5 standard without Vray?
Thank you.
Cheers

For a fact? no, however I do remember several people making similar comments around the time hair was 1st mentioned, & I recall something being mentioned about something being done for those without V-ray, but I don't think there were any details given. |

Thanks for the reply. Guess I will just have to wait and see. Being stuck at home tends to make me more impatient than I used to be. lol.
Thank you

"4. Rendering
Yes, you will get Hair and Fur shaders V-Ray will be moved to the Player side so that bridge will no longer get in the way there. Other new V-Ray features will be good animation support, such as high quality motion blur, incremental updates for irradiance/photon maps, GI light maps, multi-pass rendering, depth of field, post processing, chromatic refraction, anisotropic reflections, true displacement mapping and more. There will be improvements in Lightworks too."
This is what Roman said in his first Captain's Blog. Now you can read this two ways, Hair is going to be a shader or Hair is going to be a shader ONLY for V-Ray. I can't tell which one he meant.
Maybe their new motto is under promise and over deliver...that would be cool.:) |

No, all those features described (GI for example) would only refer to Vray. I think the final comment about ijmprovements in Lightworks is the final confirmation that he was talking about Vray for hair...:o |

Thats a shame. Not sure if TS has anything else that I cant do in my current app. Well apart from the obvious responsiveness of high poly models. Thats one thing my current app is bad at.
Need to keep my eye on what TS 7.5 will have out of the box.

LW 7 had Sasquatch lite in it.
I don't if LW 9 has Sasquatch lite.
Full version of Sasquatch is $499.
C4D Studio is $3495.thats most the modules.
And to keep all the modules upgraded it's about a $1000 a year.
Most use Maya,XSI for Character Animation $7000 +
Plugs that can run in the $1000's and homemade codes.
Now even if ya got a app with rigs hair cloth etc etc you would still need a 3D crew to get all this stuff done in a reasonable amount of time.
For a single 3D Artist on a budget Poser is a very good way to go.
Poser 5 has spline hair and Dynamic Cloth.
I'm assuming Poser 6,7 will to.
$250 / $280

I own poser 5. I got it free recently. I thought it would be the answer for me on a limited budget but... Trying to rig my own models without them ripping apart is beyond me. Trying to find info on why this happens is so far out of reach as well.
If I can figure out how to rig my models properly without them ripping into sections then I will be fairly happy to plod along with it for now.
Cheers

Where was it stated that hair for TrueSpace 7.5 would only work with Vray? I don't recall reading this anywhere?!?
If this is the case, what does this mean as a modeller? Like, will we have control over the hair, be able to make it move, colour it, control its flow, etc.? I'm planning on taking the step up to 7.5 but I'm not sure if I can afford to splash out on Vray too. I do want access to hair/fur for my models but at what cost and with what funcationality?
And speaking of Vray, I do recall a while back someone from Caligari posted that you could not use Vray with any other software as it was designed to work with TrueSpace. I'm just wondering what this means for further down the TrueSpace roadmap? If the Vray renderer is a plug-in as such, will it work with future version of TrueSpace? I got AniPak as park of my purchase of TrueSpace and I use some of those tools a lot, particulary Puppeteer. I know some of the tools won't work with TrueSpace 7 which I upgrade, I just hope Puppeteer does. Anyway, my point is, if Vray for 7 won't work with 8+, it's a lot of expense for a render plug-in, and it's a lot of expense to get hair/fur. |

This question has been raised before and answered, but I can't find the link.
So I am going to stick my neck out and chance my memory;)
"Other new V-Ray features will be good animation support" follows the statement about hair and fur and so it should be read that it is indeed only with Vray that this feature is being offered.
I think it was Tom who said that the instigation of hair is an interplay between geometry creation and the renderer. Most hair implementations in 3D packages are not soley geometry based and this will be true of the hair offered with trueSpace 7.5 (from my reading). Therefore, the hair implementation talked about in the post somebody has pasted is linked to Vray as this renderer has the ability to deal with the shader issues associated with hair creation, the current Lightworks renderer ( I believe?) does not -at least at the moment. From comments I remember from Tom there was both an openess and willingness to port it to the main truespace program IN THE FUTURE, if the Lightworks renderer was or will be cabable of dealing with it. Again, I suspect this is why Vray is being offered because lightworks is limited. However, lightworks does offer realtime rendering which is going to be a real plus in the future, so its not that this renderer is poor, but again 'horses for courses'
Tom correct me if I am wrong... |

VRay is a rendering engine (like lightworks) created by the chaos group (http://www.chaosgroup.com/). Vray is used as a render engine for many programs such as 3dsmax. I think what whoever posted before meant was that you can only use the version of vray that is for tS in tS, it wont work in any other program. |
