Just a query regarding theft of Truespace 7. My query is this. I found online someone trying to sell obviously illegal copies of Truespace 7. I emailed Caligari about this but have not heard back from them. Just wondered if it was worth my time reporting it or is it just classed as one of those things. It does my head in thinking that someone can get it for next to nothing when the rest of us have to struggle to find the money to upgrade if nothing is done about these idiots who steal.
Cheers.

Ive seen some too on Ebay, however im not sure if Caligari could do anything, unfortunatly (fortunate to some) illegally acquiring pretty much any piece of software is very easy to do, the selling of these items can also be made legal by the fact that they can claim they are only backup copies and should only be used by those who have an original. Also you will find many large corporations dont mind too much, the money they make is through large companies who are making profit out of the software as they must buy it, however people who download the software in order to check it out and maybe even learn it would at some point have to purcahse it if they liked it in order to legitamately run a commercial business with it. I can hold my hand up and say that for a while I used a friends copy of TS6.6. to see If I liked it and then later on I bought TS7 because now I get commercial business and also i like the available support and updates |

I think it's more of a moral issue at this point, by which I mean those of us using legal copies can feel good about it (or more accurately, not feel badly) and those of us who manage to use it for commercial gain can do so legitimately. It is an endless job trying to police digital media theft. |

I would say the people that would buy it are in for a shock. They won't get updates, support, no 7.5 etc. because you can't transfere the title. If you see stolen property on Ebay just send them an email, they remove it quickly. |

I also got curious about this a while back, and it turns out that there are torrents out there for TS 7 (VERY Illegal in case that was unclear) and I've even seen it available for download on Limewire. I haven't tested the validity of the torrent or Limewire download, but if they're legit, then I'm pissed. |

Yeah I've seen a few of these on Limewire too. They are all about 256K...can you say "virus install" ? :)
I remember a few years back that Caligari had a promotion to allow pirates to 'upgrade' to a legit copy at a discount , no questions asked. Kind of an interesting way to deal with the problem. |
