Here's my attempt, took around two hours including texturing and rendering. Lens flare added in Photoshop.

Have to re-render at 4X antialiasing for the actual site though. |

Here it is with 4X AA and some softening in PS. This is really fun!

Give it one eye and it will become a truePlay Avatar!
The glow around the wand in the first render had a larger radius and looked better to me. The little green globe on the left turned into two green globes which I would remove. The gold thing on the hat doesn't look right yet.
Overall I like this rendering alot. My kind of style! (Splinters you have competition coming...):;) :)
That competition site looks like a blast and is showing all kinds of creativity! Cool. I might give it a whirl. |

The reason for the globes is I accidentally did two lens flares. >_<
Will fix that next render. Also, I have no idea what I was going for with the gold hat thing. It just sort of came to me. XD I think I did it that way because it has a sphere in the middle and it's a sphere compo, so I think that's it. You're right though, I will put some work into that. Unfortunately, it seems I won't be working on that scene for a while, as the bones that were in the hands freaked out as soon as I loaded the scene. Damn shame. That's my biggest issue with TS.
Here's the compo template scene (also available freely from the site, but not in TS format) in TS format for anyone interested (.OBJ included as well): |

I've made a template as well. I don't know which one is better, haven't tried Methusela's version yet. |

I saw yours there GraySho, excellent render.
I think your camera's probably more accurate than mine, so everybody download GraySho's. |

Yep, I think the camera is as accurate as it can get. I also made it that the sphere is at the world origin. Might be helpful to keep or align the sphere always in/to the center of the scene, as it's requested in the rules. I packed the camera and background plane into a seperate layer and locked it, so it can't be modified by mistake. |

Thanks for the scene files GraySho, that's saved a bit of time. Finally got round to doing my first submission. Camera isn't quite right for some reason, not sure what I did wrong but, hey, it's close enough!
Here it is for those that are interested:

Splinters, perhaps since he's in mud he should look happier? Just a thought. And if you've got Vray, some SSS would be really cool on him.
Wicked Witch, how'd you get a bump map to work in Vray? I've been struggling with that for ages! |

I have no idea, I don't have Vray!
Though if you're using GI then that's probably it as I've been told that can cancel out bump mapping. VirtuaLight does the same. |

It's technical but something to do with raytracing defining the bump where GI cannot because of its, well...global illumination...:o |

Oh, I see. Is there any way to fake a bump without modeling it?
Also, Wicked Witch, after winning the gallery I thought that'd be the first thing on your list! Good lighting though, I thought it was GI. |

cool picture Methusela. Yeah it is the GI one of the way around it is to add a dim light in the places. It also depends which version of Vray they have because I think it wasn't very long to when it was fixed on choas groups side with the sdk. |
