I would like to hear from you guys, first how do you like truePlace so far, but more importantly, what would you like to see in the future (other than frequent Gallery openings:) which would realy make it worthwhile for trueSpace professional. |

It's like an old dream of mine (10 years ago) when I wanted to build a 3D city
in the internet. :)
I would like to see the peoples names at the avatars to identify the person. |

Roman,
First let everyone have unique Avatars either supplied or created.
Build a Museum and put the existing TS Gallery in there.
Build Old Town "Main Street" Caligari where Avatars can shop. Make it look like Disney Main Street with gas lamps along the street.
Have a Coffee shop for conversation, Book Store for research, Pet shop (future Pet adoption;) ) also a Game House cards, hangman etc. Stores for shopping. A school district.
Have weather to bring it all to life.
Have an Airport for transporting Avatars to a User created world.
Worlds could be "Secret Islands" "Casino" "The Gym" "The Coliseum" for Laser tag.
A movie house for watching TS created movies.
I think the links from one world to another has to be more clear. When I went to the tented world with the ramp there were lots of Avatars looking for a place to go. Create "transport objects" so everyone knows where to go to change worlds. Maybe a large glowing ring you have to enter before making a selection.

Yes.. Trueplace are a excelent idea... But i look the best potential to send to my customers trueplay and send my works.. With the first person, its easy say how they must move...
Thats the real potential over TruePlay1.2 and thats is why im sooooo happy with TruePlay..
Trueplace must be a great place... Steinie you have good ideas, and i like to see a blackboard to draw future 3d models, or a wall to paint a graffiti..
I think over Trueplace the abilty to fly its not good... over Trueplay yes.. but over Trueplaces not because we must go away from the scene and see "behind the scenes" jejejeje
I love to see a trueplace scene able to creat models with many people.. "conected by truespace.." or a garage... and we can creat models to the trueplace... chairs, furniture etc..
The museum idea must be great.. imagine see the history of Truespace renders??? not all ... only the winners and 2nd places... animations i think its to dificult.. i dont imagine the broadband caligari need to send all this amount of information...
Well im happy with Trueplace and im glad to help... :jumpy:

Link parsing in the chat window. I'll second the motion to make links in the 3D space be unmistakable/obvious. Putting them in a standard location is ok, but limiting. They should be able to be placed anywhere, attached to any relevant object, but it should be visually obvious that it is indeed a link to a URL, or another shared space, etc.
A status line - or tooltip-that displays the URL when you hover the mouse over a 3D link so you can decide if you want to go there. Too much potential for being 'goatsecx'ed' with unlabelled links.
Infinite skies/ backgrounds would be a nice aesthetic touch- it's a bit like pulling back the curtain and seeing the Wizard of Oz when you can pass beyond the sky and see it's only a dome.
Nametags, please, especially since everyone looks the same. I realize this may change in the future for tS7 users who I understand will be able to build custom avatars; but for truePlay users and visitors with the standard issue avatar, knowing who is who is just good manners.
Chat logging.- the text obviously; recording/logging audio would be problematic.
Kill the 'jump to the last line when someone enters text' in the chat window- makes it impossible to read the backscroll.
Beef up the voice chat... works fine with 2-3 users, not so great with a big crowd. |

I love the whole idea. It was a lot more fun once I found the first person nav icon and activated the new controls. If the button wasn't active, it didn't matter how many times I right-clicked it never came on...
Games to play would be fun, something like laser tag, an obstacle course, etc. Adding weapons would be cool... :D Night based games where the persons avatar glows in the dark and you have to find them...
Maybe a jump height option, I noticed that I could jump pretty far in the forum but not in the lab or roundtable.
Perhaps an indication of the number of people logged in a specific area. Something that you can see before you actually go to that area. It's no fun to walk around a big ol' place with no one to talk to...
Keep up the good work!

I posted input on this earlier today in the truePlay forum topic of truePlay1.2 and truePlaces. To avoid double posting, here is the link:

Oh one thing I would fix is set limits to the zoom function! It gets really weird and uncomfortable if you mess up. Something like tunnel vision. |

Hi all,
Roman; Aside from the terrific opportunity to literally talk to and get to know on a more personal level, those we have been writing to in the forum for years, I think there's a great potential for live and interactive tutorials here.
I noticed while in the "Lab" that I could manipulate a particular object and the others in the room could see that manipulation (I won't say what object because it took a while to get it back into place ... didn't want to be labeled a Vandal), but with that in mind demonstrations could be advertised through e-mails like "The distinguished Délé will be giving a demonstration tonight in the Lab on how to turn a cube into a fish"; "come see Splinters create his latest Pig" .. or some such ...
I agree about the avatars. Maybe we could retexture our avatar with a portrait photo if we can't import our own character.
The manual says that a link can be attached to ANY object. This would be great for clandestine and closed meetings ... and treasure hunts!
I like the idea of an animation theater. Would the bandwidth issue be solved if 50 people were gathered in a theater to watch at the same time as opposed to individually downloading? If so then the animations submitted might be a little larger than the current limitation. maybe?
A contest for user created rooms to be added!!!!!!!
Just a few of mine for now!

Roman; Aside from the terrific opportunity to literally talk to and get to know on a more personal level, those we have been writing to in the forum for years, I think there's a great potential for live and interactive tutorials here.We already did that, Norm held a live course about scripting a few weeks ago. Unlike say Second Life, you can visit truePlace with your copy of TS7 and every tool in it (even Model side tools, that is what bridge makes possible) is instantaneously available for real time design and collaboration. For now truePlace is restricted, just because we want to see how it holds in heavier traffic. If it does, we will open the floodgates and you guys (at least those with TS7 ) will be able to create a lot of content online, including models, materials, surfaces, behaviors, characters, even entire activities and games as well as expand the world with your own private rooms)
As Tom pointed out the server is trueServe which anyone can purchase and create their own online community, whether for gaming, online training, business collaboration or any other purpose.
But first use will be 3D supporting social network for trueSpace7 users. I am greatfull for your ideas right here, I will be reading this thread and we will be adding features most requested by you on a regular basis. User Galleries will be first one, comming as early as next week. |

Roman: Really great work on truePlaces!
One thing that may be of value is a way to Unselect an object. (Shortcut)
A Background widget would be really handy also.
Left + drag mouse button: Navigate Left and Right
Middle mouse button: Rotates View
Double click middle mouse button: Reset View
Right + drag mouse button : Navigate Up and Down
Highlighter for 3D toolbars when mouse over. |

True place is super cool. The only siggestion I have is that there be some sort of common coded signifiers for the avatars. As a dial-up user I can visit truePlace but it's not that practical interacting with others due to the data lag. Having some sort of universal marker that told other users I was on dial-up and therefore unable to respond might save hurting so0meones feelings when I don't reply to them. Just a thought.
Hopefully local broadband prices will drop next year so I can afford broadband and the repayments on my computer!! |
