Hi all,

Tomorrow (that is, Thursday 14th December) we will be opening the new Gallery space on truePlace. The space will be going live at around 10am PST, and to celebrate, we'll be having an opening event which will feature artist Zachary Humway, and will be hosted by Roman Ormandy.

The truePlace Gallery currently is hosting an exhibition of Zachary's work, so he'll be there live in chat to answer questions and talk about his work. Should be an exciting event, and something of a first, having an exhibition opening in virtual space where everyone can meet and browse the pictures together!

Everyone is invited to turn up around 10am PST, Zachary should be there from the outset, though we'll be waiting a bit to let everyone turn up and get settled in before we start the presentation event (so don't worry if you're a few minutes late!).

To get in there, be sure you have registered for truePlace and installed the software. Then you can visit the truePlaces page and use the link you will find on that page:

http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts7/Brochure/truePlaces.asp?SubCate=S2forum

Or you can cut and paste this link into Internet Explorer:

caligari.trueplay://tpportal.caligari.com/1112

Note that the space will not be online just now, so you'll find trying to log in will result in nothing happening until the Gallery goes live at around 10am tomorrow.

We'll meet you there!

Thanks!

Tom

We just concluded Gallery opening which turned out to be a pleasant experience. First picture shows our test gathering last night:

Next picture shows actual live opening this morning:

I and other visitors enjoyed quiet explanations of Zachary Humway (he wears blue hat, black tux, Caligari staff wears pink hats) as he walked from image to image and explained how he created them and what was each image about. Everyone also praised airy space created by Emmanuel. In a way Zachary and Emmanuel collaborated (not in real time) together to make this experience possible. But only when the visitors entered the space for the opening the space has become truly alive. It is remarkable that with such a simple avatar visitors already can express their personality so well and create a strong sense of presence.

Finaly, here is a photograph Norm took of me and Zachary, talking about one of his images with Mr TinSmith looking on:)

I wonder what the experience of some of the visitors was, feel free to share it here.

I missed the opening but I do have a couple comments and suggestions after walking through the space. I loved the surrounding water, it looks like Lake Superior! I also wondered how they deliver the wine and cheese to the gallery? On a more serious note:

Titles on the images, if available. If nothing else it would facilitate conversation about each piece.

Links to high-resolution versions; again, if available or desired by the artist.
A place for additional information about any of the works that the artist wants to share.

A method of contact or feedback to the artist if they desire it.
Hide the lights! If you can't adjust them you don't need to see them. Don't know if this is technically possible but it's a small yet aesthetic point.

For the Grand Opening it went fairly well. Some of the issues were obvious and some were not.

Sound for me was torture. I either have a bad pair of headphones (Sennheiser) or the sound was set too low. I had to keep getting close to you guys to hear. (of course there are no lips to read)....;)

We all know about the problem with people turning on speakers when they had a mike. Roman your hard to understand without the echo! Not your fault, I just have a hard time with the accent. The echo and low volume was killing me.

The stairs and ramps behind us when looking at the pictures were sometimes a problem. The eye beams somehow pushed me back and I would drop down the ramp/stairs.

The amount of artwork presented was a nice surprise. The turnout was pretty good. The whole experience felt like we were pioneering an event.

I must say I certainly enjoyed the event as well. And yes, it did have a pioneering feel to it...very exciting (not to mention being in the same room with all the Caligari big-wigs:P) Had a great time, and was certainly glad to be a part of it!

It was an elegant event with the Tuxedos and truePlay Choir too!

P.S. Somehow I received a pink hat....I'm now in therapy....

Sorry I couldn't be there - looks like a grand event.

I've just got to say that I love those avatars (yes I know they are just temporary) but they look like Daleks on acid to me!!
