In a response to another post, I plundered and found these images from some previous experimenting to show that fake SSS is possible in Lightworks. However, after re-reading the post, I think I misunderstood the question so I deleted my response and images.
I decided to go ahead and share them here separately, because they may be of help to someone.

looks like sss to me. probably uses a similar idea, with perhaps less sophisticated and accurate algorithms. |

Did some quick searching on ShaderMagic and found the following:

Appears that it would be free now. Any reason why I couldn't send membrain a copy???? |

I'm not sure... I know back when I was using 4.3 SM was my best friend =) If I'm able to get my hands on it sometime in the future... It's going on a CD, no question about it. Can't risk loosing it again ;) |

They are different custom shaders from different programmers, but both have very similar capabilities.
ShaderMagic was node based so you hooked blocks together with links in a graphical interface much like the Link Editor in tS7.
ShaderLab was script based, so shaders were constructed from a text based programming language.
You can't save a ShaderLab shader and load it into ShaderMagic, though - and vice versa. |

Where is the smb file that is seen in Shadermagic's user interface in the screenshots? The version seem to be different from the ones available for download in the linked webpage.
The linked pictures are from this thread:
