It's a shame this thread ended so quickly! I would've entered in the "contest" had I been a member of the forums at the time! I'm going to try to keep this thread going because it looked like it was fun!

Lol, just wanted to keep it alive.... I'll attempt something.... I'm not the TrueSpace genius that most of you are, though!

Yeah, go for it TrueSpaced! :)
I just finished the body for my version of the Roman Avatar a few days ago. Getting ready to work on the head next.
LOL and Prodigy was kind enough to offer up an ear... :D Hehe, but think I'm going to go really low poly on the ear and just fake it with a simple extrusion and a hopefully decent texture map from the photo references.
Edit: I'll post a screen grab of the WIP tomorrow.

Ya, I went through most of it, that's why I replied to it to try to get it back in the "New Posts" so it's easier to find!
Roman probably isn't too thankful that I did that....:p

Sorry Roman, I was just having fun with the facial animator (one of my favorite TrueSpace tools!!), once I add hair, I'll try to fix the face a little more...

Lol, thanks guys; I'm working on one with hair now... Stay tuned! :D Anyone else going to submit anything?
Oh, and Prodigy, is there going to be an overall vote do you think? Or is this just for fun?:D

Here's the render with hair, still needs work, and for some reason I lost the facial texture as soon as I put hair on it, and I can't get it back... Oh well... What do you guys think?

I think he needs his beard trimmed. ;) You'll need to hunt around in the LE to get the materials hooked up so you can change them.
I've still got some work to do on the head, but other than some tweaking I need to do with the shoes the body is done. It's currently at 1700 polys:

Wow, not bad, not bad at all! Ya, I think I kinda gave up on the realistic looking Roman; maybe I'll do a different one, but my computer is having problems with the hairy one...

Re-worked the flow lines to better follow the face topology. Still need to finish eye lids, and model the ears and hair.
Update before I head off to get some sleep:

This looks fun, if only I had these reference photos while I had facegen-I could have made a near photorealistic avatar at reasonably low poly count...:o |

Heh, you don't need Facegen Splinters. Besides it's more fun sculpting it by hand. ;)
Eye-lids done. Just ears, cleaning up the rest of the head, and transmapped poly hair to do:

lol. I do have GenHead but that's probably cheating :)
Maybe use it as a helpful 3D guide though while assembling my own.
So much to do though!!! So little time. |

Alas prodigy, you can export the OBJ file but the jpeg texture is just blank...I am beginning to think it might be a Vista problem. I tried the example scene and that was the same....oh well, was a pretty good model as well...:( |

Looks rather incredible Splinters. Shame you can't export it. :(
I finished mine up for the most part, just haven't had time to UV map it. Probably next week I think.

Well I exported it but the results are pretty poor compared to the 3D preview the program shows you. Oh well.... |

This search for the ultimate avatar seems a bit of a 'holy grail'. Maybe we should take the Nintendo approach and have lo-poly avatars that avoid realism. In my Caligari University thread;
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2852&highlight=university
I made simple cut out shapes for avatars with a simple oval face mask that had an image of the user. Very small file there and pretty cute really.
Download the scene and paint your face over the one on the receptionist. In fact all the avatars have the same face in that scene....:o |

Why not manual modeling a new Roman's head model ? |
