Hi all,
For your avatar-creating pleasure, here is the first file, containing three face images. These are just photos, no work has been done on them to make them 100% ready for use on the avatar.
HTH!

Hi all,
Second file, the body images. Whether you use these depends on whether you plan on going as far as creating a body (some of the avatars have just been heads).
Will be interesting to see what people can do with these!
HTH!

Thanks Tom for getting everyone the photos. Here is the next challenge.
Roman "Glad you are having fun guys Come to speak of it we could actualy use realistic well textured mesh of myself for some cool new animation tests we are planning. A good avatar like that could be a ticket to Beta team membership."
Jamesmc you did a nice job before with nothing, now work your magic.
Methusela, no laser beams on forehead allowed. Let's see what you can do!
Prodigy, you have another good one in you?
How about that Amazing Talent Pool out there wanting to do something but can't think of anything. Heres your chance to shine.
This is becoming one of the more popular threads so get noticed!
We have the photos so have fun. |

I actually have two ideas. One of which certainly involves copyright infringement. I would not even be mentioning this if it weren't my preference to go with the infringing one. So, I guess to do this properly, I need to first ask Jukka Korhonen (I'm not sure what your avatar is, sorry >_<) if I can use your butterfly image:
http://www.caligari.com/gallery/imagesgallery/2005/jan/images/1101.jpg
And everyone else who will let me use either a picture (or even better, a model!) would be much appreciated! |

So...
What does a beta team membership do for someone who owns tS66 and not tS7.1?
I mean we have a title that can't test anything? :D
Or does it mean enter anyway, if we use your model, thanks for the effort. But he beta team is only for those who pay for beta software?
Or bring it on naive sucker, Caligari needs free models! |

Beta testing means you get the software (BETA 7.5 release X) to test. To get the actual released version with fixes you'll need to purchase. Try before you buy.
The avatar contest benefits both, they get a nice avatar and you get to play with 7.5.:)
I think the inferred message from Roman is the fact that with your Beta 7.5 you can now animate it too...
This is totally your choice if you want to participate. I think this is a kick even if you were already a Beta Tester. We're trying to make this fun Jamesmc. So have FUN....theres already another thread titled Gripes, Moans and Groans.... |

well... this is not true... I am a beta tester, I did not purchase TS7, I am a caligari customer and I have purchased many caligari products, tutorials and services in the past. Being a beta tester lets you test what caligari is working on behind the scenes, to get a glimpse of what roman and his developers are doing. This is a very dynamic company, they have lots of cool ideas and a deep talent pool of developers and beta testers, you get to see many things in the beta area that really shine the talents of the testers and the developers. as a beta member you also get the opportunity to have a voice in the direction of the software. while ts7.5 is moving along... at some point it will be finished and ts8... ts9... and so on will come along. maintain an active tester role, and you will have a small part of working on them also...
it's really a very nice chance for someone interested in something like this to get a foot in the door...
proteam membership only lasts for one year, beta testing can be a much longer term membership.
i am still working on my head mesh, the body is just a basic form right now, and my texture has been cleaned up. I typically do not do real models, so this is proving to be a good chance for me to practice something like this.
it is a nice challenge, it would be cool to see others join in, even with a cartoon characture :)

I've done my share of beta testing software since the early 1980s. I don't want do this anymore as I'm getting old. :)
With the advance of software programming, it still amazes me how long it takes to develop software these days. I understand a lot of 3D software is mathematically based on algorthms, but gee whiz, they have an anchor tied to their keyboard or ?
I'm hardly a programmer, but even I back in the early 80s made a program that used graphical icons for the user to select to see what type of genealogical tree the wanted to print out. And I wasn't alone, there were hundreds of these types of programs. Eventually, a few people got wise and put the style of these individuals modules into one program that does it all.
This I am convinced is the way to go with software.
Don't try to finish it all at once. If you have a completed module, get it out there, make some sales on a minor upgrade.
If car makers took the same approach the Model T would just now be adding sealed headlamps. |

With the advance of software programming, it still amazes me how long it takes to develop software these days. It amazes me too:) 3D authoring tool is a very complicated application, in game development you can cut corners and optimize in many ways (buildings only need a facade in racing game) but in authoring environment users can combine many tools in all kinds of workflows (you can decide start displacement map painting on your character right in the middle of rigging it with IK controlers). |

From what I see the topology looks a bit messy, but it's the best approach I've seen so far. |

Rich,
You have a nice "head start":D
That mesh looks pretty clean, I can't wait to see it develop.
Nice to see more people getting envolved but there are others too. You know who you are couch potatoes...
I've seen dog models but no master, a ship with no captain, a car with no driver, and lots of people telling us how it should be done. Now is your chance to show us. |
