it is a nice model, a shame to declare you the winner before the contest had a chance to get going
oh well... on to other things....

Rich, all we know its a personal opinion... dont be mad for that.. nobody know whats gonna be the next image from the unknown ts user... :D |

i am not mad, and as a beta team member I have nothing to gain by posting my work here... I just hate seeing any chance of this becoming interesting because users start declaring your mesh the winner.
(hint)
use FA and you can do an amazing face in a matter of minutes :)
anyway, gotta get ready for therapy... stretch those fingers, bend that wrist:confused:

I dont use FA to make the Roman's face if is that what you meant to say....
But if its only a matter of minutes.. you can show us what you can do with FA.
:D
Btw, i dont make this contest to win nothing, and others ts users join this contest only for fun, not for a Beta testing banner.. |

i was not saying you used the fa, I was mentioning it so that others could join in, any of the standard fa meshes with the roman textures on it would look like roman, that is the beauty of the fa.
guess my big shoulders will have to bear the burden of being the bad guy here, I guess I should have just kept quiet and not said anything.
back to wall flower mode I go :D

Woaaaa...Did you all not get a good night sleep?!!!
The contest part of this is awarded by Roman IF he feels like it! The Avatar has to be something that deserves winning in HIS view not ours. No one else determines the winner.
No one said you had to use the textures supplied. The final result will determine the winner not how a texture is applied to someone's model.
Everything else we are doing here is for enjoyment and in a way educational. You guys aren't that tough if someone cries fire and your halfway out the door...
The Contest part continues until there is a winner or lack of interest.
Methusela and RichLevy had something cooking, I hope they keep going. (I think there are others too;) )
Steinie question for my peanut brain, what is FA?
Update: found it page 733 "facial animator" |

You guys are doing some awesome stuff. :)
I'm working on a lo-res character... let me preface that I am not a character modeller. I've only one one previous character and that one was following a tutorial.
Anyway... I sort of feel like I'm lowering the standard...this is what I have so far... |

Heidi, we have no standards:D
I can picture your Avatar running around trueSpace. Nice entry for a non experienced lowpoly builder...mine would have been a blob....
Since we are getting tons of traffic here please take time to check out this link to another thread. It's an idea from Prodigy for a user Tutorial Forum I hope will take off.

If you want to know how something is done in TS there is now a place to find out without searching the web. User Tutorials all in one location.
Thanks Norm and Prodigy. |

I like Heidi's model. A very fined symmetrical display of texture. The clothing is particularly good. I can see the figure running around inside tS performing various tasks. |

this is just to show the power of the fascial animator in ts. It took me about 10-15 minutes to do this including loading the textures in the fa folder. the mesh used is the cooter face mesh from the fa default meshes.

Thanks guys, you're really being generous. I'm going to give it another shot.
Rich, it didn't occur to me to try using the facial animator. I used the UV mapping editor to line up the mesh and texture.
I do have a question for you guys. Is it more advantageous, as an avatar, to build a single mesh or used a grouped mesh? It's a lot easier to map a grouped mesh.
This one is a single mesh and weighs in at 1553 polys. |

Pretty cool. Downloaded the images for this one and I'm gonna give it a go too.
Since the end result is going to be used online, the goal is a fairly lightweight model right?

I'm glad interest has come back to this one. Heidi was working on a nice one. Nice to know J_Edwards is going to try (I was waiting for you to join:) ) there are others that I thought would try but we haven't heard from them. Methusela had gone underground for so long I thought he was sneaking one in there some day....I hope so!
I have tried a couple times but lucky for all of you (and Roman) my standards are greater than my talent:D
........but I haven't given up either..... |

Hi Norm (and thanks for being there on a Sunday and helping me with forum membership access, btw!),
I just read this thread from start to finish and I couldn't agree more with what you said about it above. In fact, I think it would not only "be cool" to have a great Avatar of Roman, I think it is a task each of us could learn alot from striving toward together.
I just purchased TS6.6 a few days ago and consequently have an extremely rudimentary understanding of it's inherent power, but wouldn't it be interesting if some TS Newbie like me created a truly challenging Roman Avatar here in the midst of all this contending expertise?
I think so... so I'll be joining in this challenge as of this minute, regardless of whether anyone wins any reward for it whatsoever. I intend to bring my own Roman Avatar "to a conclusion," a conclusion that will be created entirely within TrueSpace 6.6 and which will be outstanding as a recogniseable Roman Mesh with or without textures, no matter how long that may take me.
You all may end this challenge before I finish this Avatar, but I will finish it, and I suspect there are others actively pursuing their own entries in this challenge as you all read this... others who like myself you all had no idea were even interested in it at all.
Therefore I propose an "Ongoing Avatars Project Team" here which each of us can contribute to more as collaborators than contenders. Perhaps after the conclusion of this current challenge which appears at the moment to be more of a contest.
Your thoughts?

Well good to see new people full of energy... :)
I want to finish my avatar, because i dont like have the roman's head over my desktop.. :D
Some times is dificult found free time between my wife and childrens, my work, my health and my best hobbie Truespace..
Sometimes i stay wake at 4 am.. to finish a tutorial.. sometimes i cant sleep thinking on how can i do something special..
But sometimes, when i stop.. i watch what im doing.. looking my creation and i think.. Yeah... thats a great thing!!
Thats the best part, be sure of that..
Welcome aboard... :) |
