Hi everybody,

I wanted to share a few snapshots I took of my experience with truePlaces.

Now first off I want to say that I think this technology is really cool and I think there is a lot of potential for this. I think the whole social network thing can turn into quite the new rage.

But my initial experience with the program is a bit unimpressive. Now I took these pictures with SnagIt 8 on my gateway laptop, an impressive unit running a 1.4Ghz Intel Celeron M processor with 1 gig of ram and a state of the art Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. (I'm being a bit sarcastic, I'm surprised this baby can load windows... ;))

As you can see below, the graphics are pixelated, washed out and look like something from the late 1980's. I'm sure that technology will catch up, but I'm not getting a new computer for at least another year. (oh, and I tried to change my hardware settings, but nothing sticks and it doesn't get any better than this...)

I don't know what the majority of people have for hardware, but this is showing what the cheaper, last year model computers are using. I'm sure as technology improves, the newer low cost computers will have better graphic cards in them.

Anyway, here are the unaltered photos...

If I'm not mistaken, all the rendering within truePlace is done with DirectX. This being the case it's more your settings for DirectX than anything else that will effect the look of the real-time render. Make sure you have the latest version (DirectX V9.0.c) However an older graphics card and some nVidia cards can not utilize all the features of DX and you will not get transparencies or anti-aliasing.

Your view of the truePlace environment is the same as mine; I use an nVidia MX 4000 graphics card.

PS, Commodor 64 was my first computer!
