Did everyone check out the new video of Hair and Fur in 7.5? Check your emails.
Whoever is working on the Hair feature look at the possibility of grabbing the ends (a range) and changing their direction. (flow)
The new text tool looks good too. Seems like we'll be seeing a little Zbrush type tools in TS finally.
Did the icons get brighter or more colorful?
Player now is called "WorkSpace" .....you guys do listen. |

I like very very much what i see... The hair looks great.. the displacent looks very nice too.. i have a doubt.. about the displacent mapping.. we gonna be able to attach a image.. to the displacent mapping like the bump mapping ???

Nah... I did buy 7.1 and I've not gotten the email yet. They must be sent out in batches or something to keep their mail server from clogging... |

James, Caligari sent their promotional sales email and it was in there. Do you receive their promotions? If you declined it you didn't get it. Some spam emails are worth receiving.;) |

I'm also curious as to whether or not you can manipulate the brushes(attach an image) and could it paint normal maps or any maps for that matter...I know it is possible, maybe we will see it in ver.8. I'm also curious about hair/spline baking and texturing... |

I still haven't received the email about the hair/fur movie yet. Was this sent out only to Pro Team members? If so, that explains why I didn't get it. But if it went out to all your customers, for which I am one, that can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send it to me again.
Hair/fur is a huge area of 3D that I want to get into and I've posted about it many times on these forums. I'd hate to miss sight of this in action in TrueSpace 7.5 because of a lost email. Even a screen shot will satisfy my hunger at the moment!

It was only sent to 7.11 customers. I'm sure the next Captains blog will have something. It was an offer to join the Pro Team and had an attached video.
I really thought something would be out by now. Good things come to those who wait! |

The video went out only to those with tS7.11 who are eligible to join pT. pT members didn't get it, as it happens. Anyone not eligible to join pT did not receive the video, which is why you didn't receive it Paul.
This aim of this email was to show potential pT members exactly what they could be beta testing right now if they signed up. It wasn't a demo of tS7.5 as such, since there will still be changes between now and the release of 7.5, things changing on a daily basis at the moment! This is why it didn't go out to everyone, as it was very much to do with "join pT, and you could have these tools today!"
Of course anyone with tS6 and below is more than welcome to purchase tS7 and join pT to get access too! It's just there is no special offer for that at present (and there is a special for tS7 owners to join pT).
It is planned to make the vid available to all, things have just been very busy here, busier than normal even :) It will show up publically eventually - or maybe an even better one with even more on show!
Sorry for the delay and any frustration it may cause knowing this vid is out there for some, I'll see if we can get it posted today.

Well that's clever Tom, charge people hundreds of dollars per year to see what upgrades might be.
I'm very glad now I bought other 3D software and didn't depend on tS.
tS is dead on the vine for me now.

So let's get this right. The message was about upgrading to pro-team, so it was sent to people who were eligible for the upgrade. It wasn't sent to pro-team members because - well, they are already in pro-team so there isn't much point. Not quite sure where the "charging people hundreds of dollars per year to see what upgrades might be" comes into it.
Had Caligari sent the message to people who were not eligible for upgrade that would be a better marketing ploy? After all, you're not going to upset anybody by saying "here's an offer - but *you* don't qualify so you can't have it" are you?
There really is no pleasing some people. |

proTeam is not something for everyone nor is it something for everyone every year. Everyone must make that decision for themselves. For me, it was part of the boost that helped me get going again and while my artistic talents are still limited I feel like I know a lot more about the "how it's done" than I did before. It didn't have anything to do with seeing the upcoming upgrades.
I was a proTeam member a couple of years ago with tS6.6. It helped then too. I dropped out for a year, which was appropriate for me at the time. With the upgrade offer it was worthwhile for me to get back into it. Especially since I now use trueSpace on occasion for my job. I work with a bunch of engineers and help develop training materials. When I first got the company to buy a copy of trueSpace I was thinking in terms of rendering stills for slides. Turns out that for an engineering application the interactive visualization capabilities are far more beneficial. The scripting required to support interactive visualizations is not necessarily trivial depending on the task you're trying to accomplish. proTeam is helping me to meet that challenge.
I understand if folks remain skeptical. It's possible to join proTeam and not make use of the membership which pretty much limits the benefit you'll receive. I've asked quite a few technical questions so I figure I've done well for my first month of membership.
Just my own experience. Your own mileage may vary. The course that finally gets you to use the tools you've already invested in is a great investment in and of itself. Given all the different ways that people learn and the different source of inspiration in each of us it doesn't surprise me that there are many different opinions on the proper path to success. |

There's no "marketing ploy" here - we made a video to illustrate the new features to show people who could be in pT what they would get if they signed up.
pT members within just a day or two had the actual tools, not just some test video, so they were not "missing out" in any way.
People who aren't eligible for pT didn't get the video yet, since that would just be saying "See what you can't get?".
We haven't posted the video for all to see not because of some "marketing ploy" but because we are so hard pressed for time due to the amount of work going into.... making tS7.5 better! We planned on posting the video, but instead it's been a huge amount of work done on testing, and testing, and testing, and getting things changed, and improved, and getting new versions released to the beta testers, and listening to the beta testers.
Sorry you find that choice of our time to be a bad "marketing ploy". As it is, things have moved so fast the video is out of date and tools have changed already.
We will continue to do our best to keep people informed about what is coming up, but for now our focus will primarily be on the software and its development. In the end, that's better for all!

Nope, you put words into my mouth James, you didn't fix it, but so long as everyone else reads my original, then I guess you are free to twist what I write.
Yep, multiple hats on the avatar! I made the video, as part of both beta testing and for this particular offer to those eligible for pT so they could see what they were missing out on testing RIGHT NOW. Note that the immediacy is important, and carries on to the larger subject about it not being more widely released.
Anyway, I do quite a lot of beta testing as well as my marketing work, and am a strong advocate for representing what users say and want, making sure that gets heard.
As it is, the hair tools have changed a lot since that video, which is now out of date in just a matter of a week. That's another reason we didn't rush to post it outside of those eligible for pT - it's a great video for people who might want to join pT as it lets them see just what they can use right away.
It is not so great for tS6.6 owners and others to see what is in tS7.5, because it's only what's in the beta and is by no means the tool that will turn up if you upgrade to tS7.5.
We will continue to keep our focus on making the software better, that is our number one priority and always will be. We will then still do the best we can to get info and samples and news out to everyone - but if we are caught up in a fevered process of intense changes, as we have been for the last few weeks, then news will sadly have to take second place to making the software as good as our users deserve.
