I'm quite looking forward to being able to easily align primitives. It's one of the things I hate doing just now unless I'm missing something really obvious. |

prodigy, You're twisting my arm! I probably don't have the cash to buy VRay but each time I see your (and other folks') renders I think aw, screw it. I'll buy it anyway!

I'm for sure will make a nice watch, ispired by Prodigy, but wount follow the tutorial, will read it later though...
Displacement map painting, does this mean we can do like this in Silo? see the bug for good example ;)

or just enjoy the thread...
also looking most forward finally having one Workspace ;)
Now I remember, it is very possible, it's also menthioned in the first "Captains Blogg" here:

I'm looking forward to the texture blending and the hair. I've got a very nice picture, but I cannot get the hair right. I'm hoping it will work better in 7.5 for me :D |

Modeling tools in WS
SS shader in WS
Character Tools
animation in general(dope sheet, non linear, physics)
getting my head wrapped in python
ignoring responsibility(e.g. rendering in Vray for no purpose whatsoever).
interactive scenes in truePlay = end result |

getting my head wrapped in pythonPython? New scripting is Jscript or VBscript. :)
The thing I'm looking forward to most is just being able to freely talk about it. When you guys get talking about stuff around here sometimes, I have to bite my tongue. You don't know how hard it is sometimes. So that and playing with the character tools more. They're fun. :) |

Ahhh, I never even noticed...I probably just glazed over it as I primarilly use C or C-script(3Dgamestudio). Thanks for the correction, I would hate to waste my time learning something I just wont use. |

Roman, That new image with the hair is really starting to show what the hair is about. Very nice. Good to hear that the creator (Heidi I think you said) is going to put a tutorial based on it out for us. Excellent stuff.
Cheers

So the excitement is growing for the 7.5 release. W!zard sounds like he is getting ready by creating characters for 7.5's animation capabilities. (Have you ever animated before W!zard?)
How about everyone else. What ONE thing do you want to try first when you get the new release?
W!zard you can also tell us since I used you as an example.
Animated Characters might not represent the ONE thing you are just dying to try.
Actually I'm keen to try the new interface - I really like the dark grey colouring and although there's not been much discussion about it here I'm looking forward to using the new layouts.
But that's a general sort of thing - as previously mentioned the character tools are a big drawcard for me - currently I pose my characters in MakeHuman and detail them in trueSpace which is a really backward workflow. The new posing tools should mean I can build one character and rig it and reuse it without having to retexture and redetail each time - yay!
The other thing I'm keen to use is tyhe new modelling tools - soft selections and so forth in Workspace. I've not really used the 7.11 player tools as they lacked so many functions - 7.5 should change that.
@Steinie - LOL, yes I have done some animation but then I got trueSpace 5 and tried to use the bones! My 3d animation experience started with camera flybys in Terragen and then moved to Anim8or. I found Anim8or to be incredibly useful as a beginners learning tool - it splits 3d creation into 4 logical sections which you can learn one at a time. It's bones are very simple but I was easily able to model a cartoon wizard and get him to play a guitar solo with relative ease.
I upgraded to tS 5.1 because I wanted the better modelling and rendering tools and so was incredibly disappointed with 5.1 bones. I've also played a little with physics scenes and such which work much better but I never got my head around deform objects and so on.
Ultimately I also got fed up with having my PC occupied with rendering out animations and therefore not really useable for anything else (now I have a dedicated graphics machine that's no longer a problem) .
I'm also interested in building some 3d spaces for trueSpace.
The thing with tS 7.5 is that not only will it give us better tools for doing what we have already been doing it also offers entirely new areas of 3d to explore. The future of 3d is not what it used to be! |

Captain's Blog Post #23...
Alright! Hair is looking very nice on newest sample !
Question...is this only a V-Ray option..? Or will hair render using Lightworks as well...?
Also...are there any cast shadows from the hair (hard to tell from sample)
----
And what is this...?!!?!? Do I see multiple mesh objects being skinned to a single skeletal rig...!?!?!?!?
Jack ..Jack Edwards!! How's that morpher coming ? ;) |

Hair / fur does render under Lightworks. Hair can cast shadows if you like (and not if you don't like).
I have been able to skin multiple objects onto the same skeleton yes, assigning objects to only specific bones in the skeleton when doing so. Not done a huge amount of testing on that, but I was able to do it in my simple test case, using "Attach Skin To Bone" rather than "Attach Skin To Skeleton" - repeated uses of "Attach Skin To Bone" can assign the same object to be influenced by more than one bone.
Note that Attach Skin To Bone is of course different from the other tool "Attach Object To Bone" which does not deform the attached object, while "Attach Skin To Bone" does deform what you attach.
After Attach Skin To Bone, you need to set up the vertex assignements yourself, tS does not do an auto assignement like it does with Attach Skin To Skeleton (which can in fact be a particular benefit in fact, that it does no assigning - means you start with a clean slate!).
HTH!

Sounding and looking good Tom.
The last IK video you did regarding 'targets' was great. Fun to watch you move around the waist target..and me screaming into my monitor..
'Damn it Tom..grab that waist and make the rig squat! I know you know I am waiting...ackkkkkkkkk!!'
and then Whala...the trick she was done! |

@Humdinger,
As far as I know the morpher is done. Unless you guys can tell me otherwise!
I'm certainly open to feature and improvement requests. ;)
I do need to get the tutorial done, but I'm debating on waiting for the 7.5 release before I do that since I think everyone with 7.11 is probably going to upgrade to 7.5 anyway. (If not, ...why are you torturing yourself???) :p
And I still need to get my entry for the speed challenge done. :o

If you look closely you will notice that orange brick says "Melanin" and red brick says "Hemoglobin". How cool is that?
That is super cool Roman!

I recall one release, where the downloads were scheduled i.e. the link was emailed to folks in batches, depending on when they ordered. I wonder if that is the plan for this release, or Caligari will use a Shotgun-email approach, and everyone online will hit the server at the same time. I hope those servers are cryo-cooled! I am really excited about getting 7.5 (okay maybe that's a stupid thing to say... EVERYONE is excited about it) but I gotta say it anyway. I'M PUMPED! :jumpy: :jumpy: :jumpy:

Having owned every version of tS, I can honestly say that it has never looked so different from a previous version...and this is a good thing. Also, I have never seen so much progress in a point upgrade. I am enjoying playing around with 7.5 so much that I have not actually created any personal stuff for months now...:o |

In my case i never wait a upgrade.. so, i work....one day enter to caligari website and see...mmm whats new??? hooo a new upgrade..
But now, im more envolved on the forum so i stay each day inside the caligari website.. or each hour?? what ever.. i never seen a countdown o a ts release, so i think its like the 2k!
And Splinters, i know why you are not very exited.. because you are working with 7.5 from the beginning.. we still working with 6.6 or 7.11 a big diference..;) |

I think you will find it finishes at midnight local time for everyone. The countdown is done in Flash, so I assume it picks up the clock of the client machine, rather than Caligari's server.
