Well the latest Captain's Blog looks outstanding to me! I am truly jealous of the ProTeam. Stan the Icons are nice and bright like in the Hair Demo I described. Thanks Roman for taking time to give us another peek. |

After looking at the latest Captain's Blog I came to the following two realizations:
1) Parva and Emmanuel Asset are extremely talented individuals and we're lucky to have them using TS.
2) The V-Ray Global Illumination of the Pirate rendering makes me feel like
Talladega Nights "I'm harder than a diamond in an ice storm...";)
Request: (better late than never)
1)Keep the widgets off the work object.
2)Keep Context Toolbars from popping up behind existing toolbars. |

Question if i could for Roman. I saw the update showing the partial hand I think it was. You mentioned this was a capture from the actuall UI for the beta in that post. I just want to say it looks very nice in my opinion and along the lines that I was looking for. Cleaner layout I think. Was wondering, the buttons at the top left are the ones that usually pop up when clicking on a object correct? Are they now docked automatically to stay out of the way or did you do that yourself? Was wondering if it was just part of that layout now. I was never able to dock them without them disappearing after I unclicked an object. I'd like it if they would just stay up there now.
Anyway it looks like it's going pretty well there and I hope this will resolve my poor little novice users issues with the UI. Thanks for the continual postings. |

Thanks for posting the video :) . It's good to see hair in TrueSpace, can really create some cool characters with that. Just one question, it looks a lot like Poser 5 hair which isn't good for creating fur. What's the deal with fur creation in TrueSpace 7.5? Would it just require making the hair finer and more dense? Just curious ;). |

Ahhh thanks for the the Follow up that was what I wanted to know. It was a source of some annoyance for me to have that bar pop up and then disappear like before. Not so much the appear reappear part but that it always wanted to center itself on my object which then required my to always walk the little critter out of the way to continue. I'll be happy to have him just sort of stay over there where i can see him. Again thanks for responding about that. It's a small thing I suppose but I can't say you guys don't answer... a nice thing from any business. Thanks. |

Ok I'm going to put a request out there for the next Captain's Blog. Is there anyway to show us the new UV editor for 7.5 ? Sneak peek?
I'm one that wants to see the motor before I see the car...
Another request on 7/19/2006
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=1041&highlight=editor
3 Weeks ago I requested a sneak peek of the UV editor. No response. So I bought UV Mapper Pro not knowing what the future will bring.
I have been a customer since almost the beginning and not once has Roman said a peep to me.
I gave you guys the benefit of the doubt and thought the UV editor and Material editor were still in development since no reply. Now in another thread I see that both have been changed. I don't believe in one way communication so in protest I am going to pull a Gandhi. I will not speak here again until there is some sign you guys even care for my business. A sneak peek was all I had asked for.
Edit: I have decided that my Silent Protest will continue but at another location....truePlay.....;) |

HHEHEHE
Congratulations to the caligari team.. Incredible work..
Fur shader is cool.. my sugestion, mantain only lines on the player and when you render render yes apear the final hair.. that to reduce the number of polygons to move on the player side...
WE WHANT MORE!!! :jumpy: |

You have to pay them first to get any information. Customer loyalty means nothing to them and they have yet to prove it otherwise. |

i just whant say my opinion..
1) James few moths ago, when i need to make a animation for a customer i need to make a room full of flat tv.. I want to use Vray to that animation, but vray doesnt suport animated textures.. i make realy anger..
I call my contact on caligari, and explain my opinion..
They call to Uruguay, to try to bring support, Paul Ashington callme and try to find a solution.. Thats is Real support.. if you need help, i trust somebody on the caligary gonna help or solve my problems..
2) Steinie, i think if they dont respond, maybe is because they doesnt have a real answer to your question.. Thats what i think.. maybe im wrong..
Dont became anger on any situation.. Stay calm and Steinie, send a mail to custom service, maybe this forum is not the best place to ask some kind of questions..:) |

My point exactly, you had to buy a beta version of an incomplete, unfinished software to find out that a feature that wasn't supported.
Couldn't have provided a better example myself. |

Parva,
You are right, if Caligari doesn't want to show me UV Mapping there are plenty of other companies that will. It just more money I had to spend because this Company shows their stuff like a peep show. Pay some money and look in the hole in the tent....oooooooo |

Not acting like two year olds. Two years would scream and flail their bodies about.
I am expressing an opinion and dissatisfaction with Caligari's KGB-like marketing strategy.
Who is it going to hurt to put a side by side comparison chart of tS66 and tS7.X with a link on each innovation providing some idea of what it will be. Screen shots would be even better. It's not like there is decompiled C++ code accompanying each image.
No one is asking anyone to reveal any secrets or methods. Besides those most likely to reveal anything secret are either on the Beta Team or employed at Caligari. This type of insider disclosure is well known among industry, a mole.
If Caligari wonders why there are very few tS exhibits out there in 3D land is that have not marketed their product properly. The other subject would be their approach to bugs. Yet another would Caligari's approach to providing upgrades to versions without resorting to a major upgrade (which means fixing bugs)
The lesson learned here can be look a Daimler-Benz approach to taking over Chrysler. They thought that reputation alone would be successful in taking on the American market. The American buyer has become savvy and no longer holds the 1950s model of brand loyalty (I'm sure the same for other countries.) When Japanese and Korean companies provided more bang for the buck with longer warranties and less expensive prices, buyers leaped on the opportunity. Along with the record of standing by their product with no questions asked in fixing defective items.
What needed to be improved from the tS66 version was bones, UV, paint and better (updated) import and export functions.
Innovation is fine, but you cannot leave behind your base and expect a blind following. |

The hair looks very nice but still I wonder is this a Truespace feature or a vray feature?
How hard is it to find that out. If this hair can be rendered in TS 7.5 without vray then that is a feature worth paying for to me.
Anyway I don't expect an answer as I have asked before and nothing came of it then apart from nobody knows. This of course is not true as the Caligari team knows.
Sorry I sound grumpy.
Cheers

Nice point JamesMc especially the last one.
In the past I have seen people ask Roman for a glimpse of something new and he has done it. I needed to update a piece of software I was hoping to be in 7.5 and asked. Not even a response. Listening to a selected few doesn't sit well with me. If my Avatar was a different name I would have gotten a different response. I've been around too long not to notice that. (The "TS Underground" will agree...If you don't understand that well...)
Brianalldridge, I don't know how you guessed my age....but your right we should tone this down....sorry.
I'm not sure about the hair yet from what I've seen. Every example I've seen the hair looks too stiff. We shall see. |

Why you think you are the only person who are not agree with some points of caligari???
That is incorrect, Prodigy. James isn't the only one who disagrees with some points/policies from Caligari. Many of us just don't bother posting anymore as it is fruitless. I haven't posted in a few months, though I come to the forums here nearly everyday (and to participate in the occassional B-Day threads).
As Tom has pointed out on numerous occassions, the Caligari Team is spending all their time on development for 7.5 (as they should); Tom is the one who is designated as the public face of Caligari (that is....the guy who answers these threads), and he can only pass on what he knows or what he is allowed to share with the general public. Many of us just disagree on the amount of info that is released.
Many of the points made are valid ones, and calling someone a "whiny 2 year-old" isn't very productive. Many of us draw our conclusions from past performance.
Anyways, I just wanted James to know that he's not alone.
