I have recently starting making a model of a high detailed racing kart (or that's what it's meant to be). It's not in any way finished although the main chassis is getting there. I created a sort of mock up of all of the parts to begin with and have been progressively remodelling each part properly and i'm nearly finished.
I just have to add the fuel line and take another look at that hideous looking
fuel tank. The engine and the brake disk (which you can't really see in this render) took the most time to model, and probably are the cause of trueSpace running really slow (that's what you get when you have high polys on a slow machine :b).
There hasn't really been much texturing involved yet although once I have modelled the bumpers and whatever you call the bit in front of the steering wheel column, I will have those to do and I will take a look at some of the chassis that might need texturing, possibly the brake disk. When you look at the higher res version you can see that certain bits of it need subdividing a bit more, like the seat.
The mechanism for the front turning wheels is on show so that you can see how it works, because it's not exactly true to a real race kart, but it would work just the same. There is a reasonable amount of detail on the brake disk and surrounding so i'll post a shot from the back sometime tommorow (GMT).

OK the images and hosting is fixed (for now - ive got to find myself a new webserver, i'm using my brothers temporarily, however the download on that is a bit slow cos it's running of a physical pc through adsl) |

This is by no means finished, I still have to add bumpers and relook at the fuel tank and stuff, and then generally look at everything again just to make sure. I'll probably put this in a scene eventually, possibly a simple animation (oooh the rendertime on thats going to be horrific). :D |

Good to see that you're not only good chatting :). This is a neat cart, keep on working on that. The pipe that does the steering might need some kind of guide (clampshells?). The texture on the tires are looking good. You might add some wear and torn edges on that chequer plate, and of course some alan bolts....well, detailing. Keep it up. |

Thanks GraySho.

Aaah, you noticed my previous posts.

Do you mean the steering column or the steering rods (AFAIK neither need any more guides than that. I was working mostly off a photo (for the bits that I could actually see) and there were no extra guides, also I have driven the kart in photo.
The texture on the tires are looking good.
The texture on the tyres looks realistic because it was taken from a photo of a kart tyre (with a bit of modification).
. You might add some wear and torn edges on that chequer plate
I'm not sure I want to add any marks of it being used. I think this should be an out of the box image. When I put it in a scene I might add the wear and tear.
and of course some alan bolts
Yes, ATM I have used the same bolts for everything (nearly) and those are some of the things that will need changing. |

Indeed it will...but should I be worried about your intentions for a project in September Hemulin, or is this strictly virtual? |

You should be worried!
I'm not sure I would be able to make a lifesize, and i'm really not into making an engine from scratch. I'll leave it there.... |

I mean the long rod. I'm working in the crane business, that's why it seams a bit loose and fragile to me :D |

Aaah, i see, actually the steering rods are quite prone to getting bent when people step on them or crash.... |

Here is the shot from the back of my kart. I appreciate the fact that there is some bad geometry in the steering wheel and some bad texturing in parts of the tyres, they have been fixed although only recently (not enough time for me to render a new one). Everything generally needs subdividing a bit more, especially the steering wheel. The next thing to add is going to be the bumpers.

You mean instead of subdividing it? I prefer to have the option of unsubdividing objects, which you cant do with quad divide. |

Not if you've saved the scene, you can't do CTRL+Z then! |

Ever noticed that Ctrl+z isn't a reliable tool in tS? |

If we are talking TS7-try manually assigning CTRL-Z as a shortcut using the CTRL-R-Click method. Weird...but it worked for me... |

Have you tried actually assigning the shortcut Stan rather than just relying on the preset one? |

Not if you've saved the scene, you can't do CTRL+Z then!copy theering wheel object, set one object to invisible and if it doesn't turn out, delete the messed up one and make the copy visible |

OK, here's the most recent render.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i218/the-hemulin/kart13_small.jpg
I having some problems with UV mapping of the decals, as you can see. I have not altered anything else. I've got to add the brakets that connect the bumpers to the frame, and then add the bit in front of the steering wheel. THEN, I really need to work out how to do UV mapping properly........ |

I believe you are to be a TS7 owner any time soon Hemulin-might as well wait and mess with the UV in that. Yes, those decals need work and is the Kart really that wide? |

Those are minor details, and yes in about 30 seconds. |
