Embarressingly, the native UV mapper, I really haven't played around with UV mapping at all so i didn't know what else to use. As splinters says, I will be switching over to tS7 in a few mins, so things might be a bit different there. |

Alas Chris, they are not but you might as well get used to the interface...and feel free to blame me if you don't like the look of it...;) |

Ha, actually I was just coming back to find your layout file....player seems to handle my kart pretty well. I have a feeling a need to get a faster cpu though.... |

Unless you're planning a weenie roast I'd consider moving the fuel tank behind the seat. |

Actually the current position of the fueltank might be safest... at least you see if it burst into flames....;)
Like the textures you've added Hemulin :) |

The tank is more like in-between your knees.

Hmm, would you want to see it first though?
Another render's coming up soon, HDRI and a few other modifications...... |

Looks great too me, nice job on the chrome pieces.
I have a few comments the tires all seem to have the same texture, perhaps you could create a few variations or rotate each them so the pattern is not as evident, is the fuel take made of a plastic type material it's hard to tell at the moment, if so you would expect that it would be translucent to would be able to see some fuel in it.
looking forward to an update. |

As splinters says, I will be switching over to tS7 in a few mins, so things might be a bit different there. If your going to start UV mapping may I suggest either UV mapper or 3D ultimate unwrapper both have very good features but I've found a combination of both works best. Although the area on your cart that you wanted to map should be quite easy and there is a free version of UV mapper available on the net if you poke around and want to give it a try.
For years before I had a net connection I knew very little about UV mapping and struggled on with the inbuilt TS mapper and then I got connected & discovered UV mapper and the quality of my work improved 10 fold.

OK, so here's my first render with tS7, HDRI
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i218/the-hemulin/kart14small.jpg
Admittadly it doesn't really show off the kart very well as the sample is too low (i didn't really have that much time to render it).
I have made some improvements: the front bumper is now a more 'real' shape and now is true to what a real kart's bumper would look like. I can't say the same for the decals though; they are better, but not by much, I am really having problems with UV mapping, I just don't get it.
I have added the thing in front of the steering column, however the shape of that isn't quite right so I might change that later. I have added some alan bolts, somebody wanted those....there in there somewhere....
Oh, and the kart is now slimmer....
Thanks for all your comments guys: Madmouse, daybe, Shike, splinters and anyone else (I only have 10 posts per page, so i cant see everybody, sorry) |

cool but I have not so good feelings if I see those cars (my weak dorsum) :D
nevermind... will you put a driver on it or just show in an environment or alike?
P.S.: what's happen to your avatar hemulin? Something strange in the face :D |

Hemulin, you need better decals-do you want the flames from Harold's helmet?
Tanks should indeed be translucent and less shiny, tires need varying too.
Allen bolts are good (you do study DT don't you?)
Texture on seat needs making smaller-it is more like a rough leather here rather than injected moulded textured plastic.
Otherwise very good indeed...how is TS7? |

P.S.: what's happen to your avatar hemulin? Something strange in the face :D
Aah, you've got to read my bottom sig to understand that one. |

Hemulin, you need better decals-do you want the flames from Harold's helmet?Yes please, I really am struggling with actually figuring out UV mapping, I might have to talk to you in-person about that...
Tanks should indeed be translucent and less shiny, tires need varying too.Yeah, they're not really a big issue at the moment, but they do need looking at.[/quote]
Allen bolts are good (you do study DT don't you?)It's interesting, i've never had to write allen bolts before, it's not exactly the sort of thing you would practice in an english lesson either......"Students.....now we are going to practice saying the word allen.....can everybody say after me.....a.....ll.....annnnn....."
Texture on seat needs making smaller-it is more like a rough leather here rather than injected moulded textured plastic.OK (simple answer)
Otherwise very good indeed...how is TS7? Aah, it's amazing actually, I never realised that the HDRI was so effective in creating realism, the UI was a bit strange at first, I couldn't find the file menu until I realised there wasn't one in player...ha....then i download your bigger icons, which helped a lot, set up shortcuts for everything i liked, then I was away.....
Speaking of shortcuts, I have dual monitor support enabled in tS7 (I was just trying it out in tS6.6 previously) and I found out that if I shove a perspective view onto my 2nd monitor and then try and use A,S,D (for eye:move, rotate, scale) it doesn't work, it seems that the shortcuts for the second monitor are slightly different.....anyway, it's only a small nag, it's not like a really use dual monitor support yet anyway.
I found out that i'm in need of more ram for player.....my 768mb isn't going very far on my 100,000 polygon kart. It takes some time to actually load...once it's loaded player properly my gfx card handles it fine.
Probably another updates tomorrow....I might not do anything on the UV mapping front, it's getting depressing :D.
I'm not proof reading my post, it's too long, and i'm too lazy atm..... |

Bubble Monster on a Go Kart?
As for writing Allen bolts in English-very unlikely but you are being pedantic-you are just lucky that the DT exam did not have questions on KD and temporary fittings...alan bolts indeed...we will have words.
can everybody say after me.....a.....ll.....annnnn....."
You did it again... |

I am using it to create a user manual for a client.
Still a work in progress..but here is a sample.
All UV toon shading...
http://www.meobeco.com/odds/cyberfloyd/lineart.jpg
As a 'tip' I suggest turning off the 'Surface Normal' Shading as it appears to cause some issues from ceratin angles if the camera is animated. Object just turn 'jet black'.
Also watch out for using shadow casting..have not put my finger on it..but renders strange in areas with a toon shaded object appearing within the shadow areas. |
