I am assuming here, so, stand back...The patch will likely only make it work on the "workSpace(is that capitol "S" or not?)" side, as opposed to the model(6.6) side. Who knows, yes..., the ninja know..(I use a lot of "..." I notice)

but i trust on Caligari too..

I'm afraid that I gave up on Truespace 7.11 and vRay 1.0 with its quirks half thought out interface and broken features. I have been using Max. I am back on board with Truespace 7.5 and hoping it will live up to the promise of a full development environment in the player, with none of the bridge problems.

To Caligari.. I'm sure its an oversite but for us loyal Vray 1 purchasers, it would show a little respect to at least list the new features and show some renders of the new engine over the old. I assume some very talented people have been testing vRay 1.5?

To me it makes no sense to upgrade a product with no known extra features, just to have a larger version number :-) (although I nearly did it!)

Looking forward to the new releases, well done on the new features in Truespace, and I do hope the workflow is now more robust.

If this next Truespace release is good, I'll spend some more time on my free user truespace library site (http://www.truespacelibrary.com/tl/) and make it larger and more accessable.

Lots of people seem to be willing to trust in Caligari on this one, despite the apparent dearth of information. I say who can blame them?! Caligari has done something pretty much unprecedented in the world of big 3D software and really listened and read what we, the loyal consumers, were looking for in a 3D package. Not only that, but they seem to have REALLY delivered! I'd say that we're being a little harsh on their marketing tactics with all the hullaballoo surrounding 7.5's upcoming release. They seem to have acheived an unsurpassed level of customer involvement here, and for that alone I'm willing to make the jump to the next Vray.

I'm trusting you Caligari! I don't doubt that you'll deliver!

(Ordering tomorrow! :D)

I'm with methusela on this one, i'm not going to upgrade to vray just yet (lack of fundage at the moment) but i will as soon as i can, TS7.5 looks like it's going to be fantastic, the program i always wanted truespace to be.

How well does vray work with animation, are the rendering times prohibitive?

Ive just made the plunge heh, Even though im somewhat annoyed that after what it cost me the buy all this software I still must pay for this upgrade that I know nothing of, however im in a good mood because I had to only pay half the price for the ts7.5 upgrade as I bought the upgrade months ago during a special offer heh, Plus in UK its about $2 to every £1 so It isnt all that much for me heheh.

But I would still be interested in seeing whats in the new version

So why should I buy VRay 1.5? Nothing I've heard and seen can convince me yet. No information, VRay 1 and Lightworks renders, is that all?

Gray keep your hands off!
Trust me, if there where significant changes from 1.0 caligari would do the hell, not to post them in their announcement.
I am sorry to say that, but you simply don't get enough bang for the buck!

I think for those interested in animation it would be a good idea to jump on the vray1.5 wagon. My guess is that most of the features can't be seen directly though I'm positive there are a few new shaders and other stuff (looking for the displacement map one because of how vray actually does it). Motion blur and incremental GI and I think caustics are supposedly going to be in there also. Basically if at least those features are there imo it is most definitely worth buying. Though its going to take a few days to make sure I have the cash.

I jumped on board almost leaving truespace behind because the software was breaking and if they hadn't written the software from scratch I would had said forget it, but with the new architecture in place and vray I don't really see the disappointments (well kinda ts7.11 because of the lack of tools on player<->workspace) and I don't think they'll disappointment us with this version of vray.

I'm grabbing in information from what was stated in the Captains Blog on what would be possibly added to vray which was the first post.

We will provide more info on V-Ray1.5 for trueSpace next week, but the biggest news is that in TS7.5 Vray is integrated directly into new workspace architecture i.e. scene data no longer needs to do the roundtrip to Modeler via bridge for each render.

Yeh, the fact that it will be integrated into the WorkSpace side is good, I myself have not used WorkSpace at all, so hopefully 7.5 and Vray with it, will kick me into learning it heh

Sorry Roman but, it should have been integrated in the first place..after all it was announced for tS7, not 6.6 where it is currently being used.
I sure must seem difficult to please...

Aw man!! Aftern just emptying out my pocket to purchase TrueSpace 7.5, this lovely offer turns up in my inbox. I have to say, I'm very impressed and the US$100 discount, while not huge, is a consideration to take on board.

Just wondering though, a few people has mentioned VRay and animation. Is there a problem with using VRay for animation??? If so, that will be a major factor for me to consider.

Once I know about animation with VRay, I'll try and scape a few Euros together to make the discounted purchase. I'm really tempted but funds are very low.

I think a few of them would be the incremental update so if you wanted GI and caustics in your animation it wouldn't ahve to always from scratch build up the GI/Caustics plus motion blur, DOF and probably others. So maybe using that choas group utility that lets you splice together many GI since its view dependant you would be able to add objects/characters and the GI would only update according to those objects in the scene that are dynamic at least I hope that's the idea .

Just want to bump this topic up. A few people mentioned VRay and animation and it came across as there being a problem. Just want to know what the situation is in using VRay with animations?

Not sure what people are listing as being a problem, could anyone give more details?

Animation support is part of the V-Ray 1.5 / tS7.5 improvements. I guess the problems reported are with 7.11 and 1.0?

Thanks!

Tom

I still wouldn't know what that(the problem) is, I get it going fine with no flickering in the GI, with the right settings anyway.

Thanks, Prodigy. Animated textures would be a big thing for me. I like to place AVI's on surfaces which play during an animation. It's good for view screens on the bridge of a starship, to name but one use. Will VRay 1.5 support animated textures?

MoS is not really supported period, at least I had issues. Last time I tried to use it was when 7.11 was released, has that changed???

Animated textures, yes good point. I could argue that shaders in general need help on the Vray side, not reflection shaders, but color shaders. Layers as well.

my interest on the new features would be

Layered materials.

Material rectangle

Faster SSS

Support for all Truespace lights

True displacemnt

can we count on one or more of my wishes ?

I think that even if "true(however it is currently defined)" is not in there, you will be able to disp. your objects beforehand..although I'm sure you're hoping for the Vray integrated style.

What would be nice is micro displacement mapping:D

I think that is what Vray uses.
