W!zard,

First congratulations on your Gallery Win! You've been holding back in the Forum because that one is off the charts! Your best work so far and the Win is well deserved. Just an awesome piece!

Thanks Steinie. I'm glad you like it. Trust me to win the month there is a big scandal. Sad how things seem to be coming out about Robert Plante. I must say that I had been seriously impressed with the variety of artistic styles Mr Plante seemed to have mastered.....

Oh well, if nothing else my win is a vindication for the Polygon Purists - my picture is a single render of original geometry (although you've seen some of the models before). This picture is totally photoshop free (apart from 2d textures applied to 3d geometry) and has a total of 168405 faces and 219164 vertices.

Just so there is no doubt heres a screen grab (I use a dual monitor setup).

Oh, well thank you very much:)really, though, I just wanted to show everyone the general mattepainting I do with my scenes in order to clear up what PS work is being done. The stuff everyone saw on LaCroste's website is done virtually the same way (although a tad more extensively:P) I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with PS, but I did want you to know that even mattepainters depend on 3d modeling (maybe not as much as the rest of us, but they do). Also that TS lends itself very well to this purpose...I've used .psd rendering quite a bit to come up with alphas for objects in artpieces so I can do post work individually on particular objects.

I didn't get that extensive with that artpiece I just posted...I probably should have. In any case, I did want everyone to see the evolution of something from TS to PS. Oh, I'm not taking anything personally...I'm too medicated for that:banana:

I think nowherebrain means the font you used on your watch entry, Prodigy.

But just for future reference, my signature was actually written out on paper, then scanned into the PC. Animation was done using Adobe ImageReady.

I could probably do something about that Steinie - I'm assuming you don't mean texture layers (I use them a lot) but the feature that allows you to hide and expose different layers.

I'll give it some thought.

@Prodigy - LOL yeah but I used a lot more lines than you!

Hay, now wait a minute! We've gotten a little beside the point of the thread. (not that it wasn't constructive.):D

Just wondering, if Robert Plante hadn't gotten that runner up, who would have? And should they get it now?

Water over the damn (sp) I didn't even know second place had a prize. Why look backwards just wasting time doing that. Why not create the next winner?
Hey a new saying "No whiners or weiners only winners"
Did you notice NO Winners in the Animation catagory...;)

Digital Dali, can i ask you something about your work?? Nobody starts to say (Why you are asking?) is more a technical question..

How you create those mushrooms?? you use Subsurfaces scatter??

That's easy, I didn't make the shrooms.:)They're in the background image...if you'll notice, everything that I modeled overlaps the shrooms and all vegetation. The dragonfly is an alpha image on a more-or-less 2d plane. It was actually a pretty simple render...just some general hazing and toning in PS afterwards.

EDIT: That piece involved "clever placement of models." magicians call it misdirection:P

No problem, always happy to answer questions! You're right, making the shrooms from scratch would've really cut into production time. Thank God for "background effects."

Theres a Caligari customer called "Robert Planet"???

I dont think that dude be sooooooo st---- to took images from others and present in a contest and it be a caligari customer..

Just asking

And by the way.. The best way to eliminate that kind of trick's is "Submit your work WITH screenshot's of the wireframe" and you can win plus points if you add a picture of you smileing and the wireframe on your monitor behind you.... :D

Doesn't get any more authentic than that! Actually, all my work is done in multiples of 9...every numerical measurement (I've done that for years).

AGAIN!!Please do not use oversize font, change it to regular size. I know the topic is serious but shouting will not help, we are dealing with the matter, let us keep our voices at the level.

I don't know for certain if it's just me, but you seem to have gotten a lot edgier as of late. Try to "keep your cool." It's a smarter move than arguing with the CEO.;)
