They all use the same WMV format. Sounds more like a broken link than a codec issue (since they were all made using the same settings)?

HTH!

PS - the videos are not standard dimensions (they are grabbed from windows resized in tS for convenience), so maybe some players would have an issue with that. They play ok here on Windows Media Player 11.

I don´t got any mail about VRay 1.5 or TS 7.5

I get 7.5 for free as preorder of 7.x and already order VRay 1.5 for 49 $.

Maybe this is the reason why i don´t got a mail ?

Prodigy did you already pay for 1.5 because you got the email and Vizu and I did not. I also prepaid for TS 7.5 and VRay 1.5.
Hey we are paying customers and we have needs too!!!:)

Maybe it's because one of my fish is named Pam?....turn off my Pam filter???
Edit: 3 hour ago My Pam filter has been turned off
Edit: 2 hours ago Pam is looking rather sick

You need the wmv3 codec - it can be found here:

When I first read through the email and reviewed the videos I was quite excited.

As a long time TS user (Version 2-3) it was so enjoyable look at some of what is now possible and being able to say 'finally'!

I took a moment to email Tom and Roman directly to compliment them on all aspects of the promotion. The email itself..the copy....the links...the features...all of it.

Looks really nice...

Then...

It hit me...

No 'Morphing / Shape' engine...?

Excuse..have I read that right...? From posts elsewhere regarding facial animation I fear to say I am.

Well...sorry but that is not good enough.

Sad..I am just really sad, as it goes back to my old comparison I have been using for years

Having a $600,000 Ferrari that does not have TIRES...is useless. Fun to look at and sit in..but other than that useless.

Looks like we are getting closer to that $600,000 Ferrari but still have forgotten about the tires.

:(

I would think there is still time to work something out, let's hope so.

To be able to morph a mesh that is ALSO attached to a skeletal rig should have very high up on any 'to do' list, as a non programmer I have no idea what that entials...I just know I have seen it done on multiple apps..it...like tires..appear to be...a standard.

Sorry for the slight 'rant' tone here, as I am upset and really hope I am mistaken.

There has been enough delays on TS 7.5 - if said features are not available via TS 7.5 only..no bridge...I would delay the release for as long as it takes.

But heck I am a user..what do I know.

:)

PS

I have further gone and explored this page...

http://www.caligari.com/Store/Special/TS75PRE.asp

and the additional character animation tool videos linked there as well.

:jumpy:

That is some incredible stuff there people, once again speaking from the long time user perspective.

WOW! WOW! WOW!!!

Very very nice.

But...this shape / morph thing..?

I am even more disgusted now!

Help us 'Obi Whan' help us!!!

I can not be a lone voice on this..it just can not be me that sees this as a serious flaw that needs to be addressed..even if in only a fundamental

'You can do that already with the Link Editor'

...along with a step by step way to do it.

I am hip to that... I thought I saw something with 'tank girl' getting thin and then fat that seemed like just what we would need...at least at the core concept level...?

So it appears to already basically be there as part of the Link Editor and Procedural Animation...?

But please throw me a 'bone' here ;)

Why was/is Morphing/Shaping (using established Industry terms..for good or bad) not directly in the mix of the basic tool set in TS 7.5...?

Especially if my admitted lack of knowledge appears to see that it's already there...just no interface..code..bringing it altogether in a useable tool/interface.

And if that is the case, what a perfect way to get people accustomed to using the LE and PA !!!!

Get us 'new guys' working from a basic 'two target' morph tool...then walk us through adding targets and the function controls for them and linking them to the object they control...?

I would love that...!

If I knew it worked the way I needed it to when done.

I agree with Vinny, I had desperately hoped there'd be some morph/shape/whatever they're calling it now stuff in there. I am kind of relying on that for my next job.

I don't think it's fair to say "I'm a user, what do I know" though, after all the effort and work Caligari put into implementing we, forum members', oppinions.

I'm also scared of programming, and I have no idea what sort of amount of work creating something like a morph target feature would require, but I really hope there's time enough to bring that in!

Just a thought but isn't keyframable vertex sculpting with soft selection pretty much what you're looking for with morph targets?

Soft selection is included:

http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/specification.asp?Cate=BSpecification

To echo Asem, I think there was a post a few days ago where Mr. Bones said that he was working as a 3rd party developer to implement a more modern morph target system for facial animation. I could be remember wrong or conflating things, but I'm sure someone will correct me... :D

We need to remember to support our 3rd party developers if they come thru for us on this.

Could not agree with you more....except here. :)

No 3rd party should have to supply us with this type of tool/function. We went through all this before with getting bones improved the first time around and that took years.

Showing me how to use the LE and PA to create such a tool..? That would suffice.

Having to pay any extra for it..,and then worrry about a small developer updating the program...getting any tech support... dealing with bugs etc...?

No thanks, as there are many great plug-ins that have just wasted on the vine as developers have moved on to other things.

Just like bones this is why such offerings need to come from the parent company whenever possible. Allowing users to know that there will always be (within reason) someone to help and address possible problems.

EDIT: By 'bones' I mean Character Skeletal Rigs..not Mr. Bones

Nah, I think we're in complete agreement. :)

Hopefully the new architecture will allow Caligari to catch up. There's some fierce competition out there in the mid
to low budget market these days.

BTW is this what you're looking for in regards to Morph Targets:
MorphTargets.avi (http://www.motbc.com/ForumStuff/MorphTargets.avi) (Xvid codec)
:D

Admittedly I did a crappy job with the animation timing, but hey it only took me about 5 minutes to do once I got my
scripts set up and about 30 min to render with GI on fairly low settings.

Other than it being a VRay rendered animation this is completely doable in 7.11. I made the script today by modifying
a script object that ProfessorKhaos posted for me the other day to help me with a UV copying script I wanted to work
on. Right now it's only set up for 1 morph target but I'm working on adding hookups for 6-10 or so depending on how
many I can fit on the LE Brick reasonably, LOL.

While I'd sure like to make money off of it, its pretty straight forward scripting and it just wouldn't be right especially
since it uses code PK gave freely. :p Maybe if I get the script done in time Caligari will want to include it with 7.5?

Enjoy,

-Jack.

Right On Jack!

As mentioned though I have limited knowledge, but it seems that such a tool is right there waiting to be put together.

Which for me goes back to the very core issue.

This is an industry standard tool/concept that appears to be here for a long time. Whether the names or exact implementation may change so that said company can 'brand' the idea of morphing..morphing is a must tool.

And yes I mean a morph 'engine' with keyframes all that good stuff! Animation..not stills..animation.

Jack, please do try your best and if you get this to work on a mesh that is already skinned to a skeletal rig...?

We are really on the same page!

Muscles that bulge..not just flex..but that I can control...to whatever silly extreme I wish!

I also stand by my statement that a Link Editor / Procedural Animation script framework example that works would be a perfect intro for scripting !!!

Perfect! You learn and create a must have tool !!!!

As yes..if you get something together one would be a fool to not include it, even if just to stop people like me from complaining.

As it may only get worse (though would then be moved over to rants) if we hit the release and nothing has been done...especially if it turns out to be right there...in front of everyone over at Caligari.

Though it really is all done out of one thing… love.

:)

PS

From other threads the new documentation for TS 7.5 will be 'electronic only' when addressing changes / additions brought with TS 7.5.

Even better reason to resolve this!

Create the working example of a Morph Engine...include the script with TS 7.5 and then just add a few pages to the documentation expalining how it works and how to add/edit features to it.

Electronic documentation has many pluses and minuses but this is a perfect example of a serious 'plus' that does allow for 'last minute' additions.

Good work people!:D

By the way...

For the record I am not looking to get the next generation of the Facial Animator which I am sure is in the works (...fun tool ..just needed more flexibility and features..but love the concept).

link below to zip file with little FA thing I did a while back. Contains flash .exe file 1.5 MEG

http://www.meobeco.com/zips/exe_toy.zip

I just want an internal 'Space Time Morph 2' type thing. Not super fancy..but gets the job done.

Note: I know it sounds weak but please do not copy and the post this on youtube.com I have seen a bit of my stuff up there that was not submitted by me. Which is kind of okay but not. So please..thanks but no thanks at this time.

I've always thought a morph script for the new architecture would be fantastic. Mathematically it really shouldn't be difficult at all. You just have to calculate the displacement between the targets and move the verts along those paths. There are a couple of other scripting things that are beyond my abilities so I never had a go at it though.

Still, I've always imagined a morph script where you could link different head shapes together and just use a slider to morph between the shapes. Theoretically it should be perfectly feasible and probably wouldn't be all that difficult for someone with a tad more scripting knowledge then me. A script like this could easily also have the cool ability to be procedurally animated in real time. :)
