Well I was there, but not until 12:20 or so Arizona time. Places were empty as usual, all of them. But then of course I'm only a lowly trueSpace 6.6 user so I don't have even the benefit of knowing when TS7+ Users are even in the same room with me there... disturbing in several ways.

It's kind of funny that the only times (3 of them) when I ever ran into anyone in truePlaces at the same time as me (out of MANY times I've wandered through them all) was (1) when I ran into you in the Speedmodeling Gallery (still need a video card btw?), (2) when I ran into someone in the main gallery who said "hello" and about three other words before immediately exiting, and (3) a time when I ran into someone stuck in mid air who couldn't figure out how to drop to the ground :D in spite of me standing in front of them (and just below) typing my brains out trying to make the simple proceedure understood! hahahahaha! I do have a headset now though, but haven't even found a chance yet to use it.

Seems like a lot of EXCELLENT server space being totally under-utilized, but I think the reasons lie in the lack of sustainably interesting things to explore and discover in these truePlaces, nothing more. That's about to dramatically change when I rollout the new Loft WIP as a finished product very soon, and there are LOTS of other great ideas I have for making those places so busy that we will long for these days when they were empty! ;)

Well, I supppose I'll see YOU in there from time to time anyway, or your cone that is! http://bestsmileys.com/smoking/9.gif

Hmm, there are no hidden tS7 users who can see you but you can't see them, so no need to feel disturbed.

truePlace is currently only accessible via truePlay, and not via tS7.11. The only "invisible" people that might ever be in there are the Caligari staff who run / maintain the spaces, they might be logged in "invisibly" to make changes to the spaces, but this is not a common occurence and is nothing to feel disturbed about :)

Otherwise, if there is someone else in the space, you will see them!

Spaces like these are generally limited to truePlay access only, for the reason that trueSpace users might accidentally start deleting objects, moving things, adding large objects that dial up users would find impossible to download, etc. So these public spaces are not open for editing, and so are limited to truePlay only. For that reason, there are no trueSpace users in there.

Also note that in spaces where both tS7 and truePlay users can exist at the same time, both will in fact still be visible to each other. There is no way to "hide" from the other application :) In fact, tS users will show up with a blue icon in the chat channel, and truePlay users with a grey one, so you can even tell who is logged in with what.

HTH!

It was a lonely event. At 4am UK time I'd had enough of watching the tumbleweed pass by so I went to bed.

I seems to me that every one has pretty much the same experience, but still, many people visit; only they don't know it from each other. Announced events like the egg-hunt in mushroom village (you remember WWW :) ), or the 'vernissages' of new exhibitions are fun because there are people around. I enjoyed meeting people in TruePlace some time ago, but now my visits are also mainly very lonely. The time difference plays a role, of course. Someone suggested once that US and European users could try to enter at more likely and convenient times. But there are still hours that overlap, and in general TS-users seem not to need much sleep anyhow ;). Perhaps some kind of time-table could help? Knowing that it is more likely to meet someone is perhaps a good stimulus to enter?

Thanks for clarifying that Tom!

Sorry Tom (and everyone else)... my bad.. http://bestsmileys.com/mouthzippedshut/2.gif

I just went back and looked at the posts in the truePlay area of this forum where I had originally gotten that notion from (what I now understand was my misunderstanding of) the following post where that was mentioned:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=26271&postcount=1

Apparently the post was referring to "SHARED space" and NOT to "TRUEplace" which I had mistakenly thought originally.

I guess that's what I get for staying up late after modeling and reading the forums instead of getting a proper amount of sleep. Sorry.

What Spacekdet said in response to that particular post still holds true nevertheless and is definitely ON topic in this thread (
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=26309&postcount=1 ) that:

"therein lies the rub... truePlay users are out of the loop if tS7 users are off in their own private little worlds.
No wonder the 'Thursday Not Chat' has been empty for weeks."

No invisible TS Users then... I got it now... just TS7xx Users with MUCH better things to do than visit "truePlaces" on Thursday nights. Understood. ;)

Man... it's getting harder and harder every day for me to remain an idiot... but then, some things never change do they? Maybe I just need better meds than coffee... http://smilies.instinctive-hosting.com/smiles/confectionery/coffee1.gif

I lurked until 2 AM Eastern. Roman showed up on his way to dinner and said hello. Also said he was hoping there would be more time for caliFolks to get some new content and be present to ''host" the chats after rolling out 7.5. Understandably, they're probably a little busy these days. Other than that, ZZzzzz.

Hi all,

Yes, things here are pretty hectic, which has been making it hard for us to attend these nights. After tS7.5, there will be some changes to the event schedule :)

I also wanted to let everyone know you'll see a change on our truePlaces page (http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts75/Brochure/truePlaces.asp?SubCate=S2forum) with a reduced number of spaces.

This page is the entry point for new users, eg those coming across from the Renderosity Gallery etc. With such a range of pages, you can have a lot of people all go into different spaces and never meet each other.

So, we wanted to focus the entry points down to just a few, so that people have more chance of heading to the same location and meeting each other.

The spaces are not gone, just a change to the web page. The links inside the 3D spaces will still take you to the other spaces, so if you have a favorite that isn't listed on the page, don't panic! It's still there :)

Also, that means we are not scaling back truePlace etc. This is just to try and guide new users into the same locations. It is very easy to miss each other while going from room to room!

Note that we have planned updates which will resolve that in a more permanent way too, this is just for the present while we are focusing on tS7.5 only :)

Cool. Sorry I missed that.

I'll try to make more of an effort myself to get in there frequently, I've just been up to my eyeballs in current modeling projects, especially The Loft Audio Video Lounge project. It seems whenever I start to texture the model (which is very awesome now, btw) I have new and better remodeling ideas that bring me back to the modeling again instead... I'm very close to being done now though and the new features are many and very cool.

The "new content" sounds promising, I'll try to make it on time for Thursday meetings from now on. I'm on Mountain Standard Time here in Arizona, what time do the meetings usually begin and end approximately?

Thanks for all that Tom, it's appreciated alot.

I'm especially glad to hear about the planned update in regard to resolving the issue of folks missing each other in truePlay/truePlaces... VERY welcome news indeed and thanks for that! :D

Sorry I missed meeting you there. I didn't see any tumbleweed though, although here in Arizona there's more than enough to go around (and blow around) in August and September.

There's even one VERY smart lady about 100 miles south of me that had the brilliant idea of "harvesting" all that tumbleweed that was nearly burying her large desert property each year. She and her daughter went and sold a bunch of it on eBay for laughs one weekend... now she sells over $200,000.00 worth of it annually on eBay to the Japanese who use it for interesting decor projects and to the Movie Industry worldwide who gobble it up for westerns! This was definitely another one of those "why didn't I think of that" cases for the rest of us here in tumbleweed heaven! Now she has teams of people "harvesting" the weeds all over the State! Awesome.

Anyhow, guess I'll see you in there sometime... do you have a pink cone? ;)

Yeah... seems like you and I are on completely opposite timeframes for the most part which is why we never see each other in truePlaces. I'm glad to hear that you are still making the effort to meet people in there though, hopefully not too many folks have given up already on that.

As for setting up "some kind of a time-table" it probably would help a lot of folks with that, but as for me my own schedule varies so much weekly that I can very rarely commit to any particular time event even two or three days down the road! So it's just "hit and miss" for me at this point. Maybe after The Loft is done and hopefully placed online that will change, I hope so.

On a more private note I did visit that online project and it was very well executed, I was very impressed by it in general. If you search for a thread here in the "Business" section of these forums which was started by Emmanuel and follow his related links you will get a few clear impressions of a similar project which I will be adding to my modeling schedule in June. The two are related, not obviously yet, but I'm sure you'll know what I mean.;)

That would be very cool... an Avatar with a black witches hat! Sounds easily do-able. Maybe we could each have some rudimentary kind of options like that to pick from in a truePlay menu before entering in, if there were enough of them to choose from it would be almost like having individuality in there anyway... I'm all for it!

Roman has a black Avatar in there at the moment, so I know they can at least do black! :D

And don't forget the Gandalf model with a bent point at the top! :p

Gives the wizard's hat a 'well traveled' look to it! :-)
